Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Esper Heart
Adrian’s instinct were telling him to eat this thing but it looked too disgusting, he decided to consult ggie.
" Where’d you get this?" ggie asked with an accusatory gaze.
Adrian whistled, " I found it outside, while playing." He lied through his teeth but how could ggie believe that.
" This is an esper heart of a gadra called the slug glob, back in the old days they lived in swamps.
However nowadays they mostly hide in the sewers, so I’m certain you didn’t find this outside whilst playing, did you go to the sewers?"
Adrian nodded, he knew he couldn’t lie to her, " Yes but I had a good reason, there was a girl missing and I investigated and found this thing."
ggie’s face changed and grew darker, " You’re telling
that while we are hiding from the most powerful human organisation in this world.
You went out to play little detective? Do you know how stupid that was, what would’ve happened if one of the Espara discovered you uh? What would you have done then?"
Adrian felt his anger rise, " You’re not my mother ggie, you don’t get to tell
what to do, rember that."
His eyes turned silver and he growled at her threateningly expecting her to flinch but she grew angrier instead.
" I may not be your mother boy but I promised her I’ll protect you and your sister if anything happens to you.
I’ve already failed to protect your sister, I’m not letting you get yourself killed as well or I won’t be able to face her.
Now when you’re done acting like a spoiled puppy, go to your room coz you’re grounded."
Adrian paused, he didn’t know how to respond to that, on the contrary he felt the sa fear he felt when his mother was angry.
Without even realising he stood up and left while pouting. ggie sighed and took out a photo.
The photo were three people, her and two others. On her left was a man with dark skin and black eyes.
On her right was a woman with blonde hair and blue eyes. The woman strangely looked very identical to her.
ggie was surprised when she first saw her 23 years ago. Most people thought ggie was around 23 or 24 years old.
That’s what she told everybody which according to her was not a lie since her mories only went 23 years back.
When she first woke up the first people she saw was this couple, Adrian’s parents Margaret and Aldridge Lunar.
They took care of her for years before Margaret gave birth to Adrian which is when ggie decided to leave to not be a bother any longer.
They had continued to be friends since then and not once did the couple ask her why she never aged.
She couldn’t explain that either, it’s also the thing that forced her to keep changing places.
Until she went back to that little town around 5 years ago. Now, her friends were gone and the only piece of them left was this boy.
She promised herself she wouldn’t let anything happen to him even if it ant he would hate her.
She took the esper heart and sealed it in a glass jar. This thing would be very useful to her an alchemist.
She can make so really nasty potions with it. Gadras were rare to found in the human world as most hit in the enchanted realms.
Just as she was about to continue with what she was doing, Adrian ca back in, ggie sighed.
" Did I not tell you to go to your room?" Adrian scratched the back of his head.
" Okay, I’m sorry I sneaked out and did that but, a little girl was missing and I thought if I could help and choose not to, then what does that make ?
I know you’re just trying to protect
and I’m grateful but I’m not a child, besides, you’re not even that much older than .)
She sighed and took out the photo, Adrian looked at it and looked at her. " These are my parents when they were younger, is this your mother? Wow, she looks exactly like mom, except she had black hair and brown eyes like you.".
ggie took off her glasses, the glasses had a minor concealnt spell. Adrian looked at her and his eyes opened wide.
" Mo..m?" He found himself asking even though he knew she was not his mother. ggie smiled gently.
" That isn’t my mother Adrian, that’s , 20 years ago." Adrian’s eyes grew wide and he shook his head.
" No no no, that’s impossible, you look exactly the sa, how is that possible?"
ggie laughed, " Kid, even normal people have ant to maintain their beauty let alone a witch.
But the truth is I don’t know, my mories only go back 23 years ago, from the hints and clues I left myself, they seem to have been taken by a demon.
The point I’m trying to make is, I’m older than I look and you should stop calling
ggie, it’s aunt ggie.
Your parents treated
like family which I wouldn’t be surprised if I was considering how much your mother looks like , so I’m not being harsh for the sake of it, it’s because i care."
Adrian nodded but his mind was sowhere else, ggie didn’t look similar to his mother no, they were identical down to their smiles.
If not for the hair and eyes they would look like identical twins, it was uncanny, " So the old lady when she...."
ggie nodded, " Yes, it’s probably
she was talking about, I don’t know how old I actually am but I must be quite old."
Adrian was about to continue when she stopped him, " I’m currently busy Adrian, there are a lot of things to take care of here, can we discuss this later."
" Of course." He modded and turned to leave then stopped, " Wait I almost forgot why I ca here in the first place, it’s that thing." He pointed at the esper heart
" I ca to ask if it was safe to eat."
" Huh?"
