Chapter 427: Chapter 427: The New Leader Chapter 427: Chapter 427: The New Leader “Now?” Roger asked.
Gaharad smiled.
“I suppose you wouldn’t want to keep Mr. Green waiting too long, would you?”
Having nothing to pack, Roger imdiately followed Gaharad out of the hotel.
A black sedan was already waiting downstairs for the two of them.
The car drove away from the hustle and bustle of the tropolis and arrived at a manor on the outskirts of Mist City.
The lawn was neatly trimd, and the vast manor was empty; by the ti Gaharad led Roger to the top-floor study,
Green was sitting in an armchair, his back to Roger, looking at the scenery outside the window.
From his angle, he had an unobstructed view of the distant Mist City.
“Mr. Green, Bedivere has arrived.”
Gaharad nodded and then stepped back, closing the door behind him as he left.
Compared to when he attended the Round Table eting, Green seed to exude even more of an air of twilight. His body was frail, wrapped in a black blanket, as if he might fall asleep at any mont.
“Bedivere, how many years has it been since we last spoke like this?”
Roger remained silent; he genuinely didn’t know what to say.
But the next mont, Green said sothing that made Roger’s heart pound with fear.
“I know your secret.”
Green suddenly turned around, his sharp gaze seeming to pierce through Roger’s guise and straight into his soul.
For an instant, Roger perfectly controlled the change in his facial expressions and physiological features.
A hint of confusion showed on his face.
“Mr. Green, I don’t know what you’re talking about?”
“Haha!”
“You old fox, still unwilling to admit it, huh?”
Green’s rocking chair seed to be pushed by an invisible hand to face Roger, his withered hands clasped together.
“There are no outsiders here, and no second person will hear what we say today. You can speak freely.”
Roger still kept silent.
A trace of anger surfaced on Green’s face.
“Bedivere, we have been old friends for a long ti. Is this how you treat an old friend?”
Hearing this, the expression on Roger’s face did not change, but a sigh of relief quietly passed through his heart.
He had thought that Green had discovered his real identity, but now it seed that it was so secret of Bedivere’s that Green had noticed.
“Over the years, you have continually found other ways to extend your life, revealing yourself with a new face every so often, all to hide your little secret.”
“Am I right?”
Roger’s expression relaxed slightly, yet he still did not admit it directly.
Seeing the change in Roger’s expression, Green continued.
“You discovered the risk in the Inheritance Ceremony, so you didn’t squander your Vitality as recklessly as the other Round Table Knights did.”
“In this respect, you excel over anyone else.”
Moonlight from outside shone through the window onto Green, casting mottled patterns on the old man’s figure. At this mont, he seed to rge with the night.
“I have completed my term, and if it hadn’t been for the sudden Black Tide incident, it wouldn’t be long before I could directly enter the Privy Council.”
“Initially, I planned to nominate you as the next Knight Commander.”
Green looked up, his eyes fixed on Roger.
“Nominate as the Knight Commander?”
“Why?”
Roger looked perplexed.
“Because you are the only one with the qualifications; under normal circumstances, no one else would likely succeed smoothly as the new Knight Commander.”
Roger’s furrowed brows smoothed out, and combining what Green had said before, he quickly understood the various reasons.
“Because everyone else has undergone the Inheritance Ceremony!”
“Haha!”
“You’re right, everyone else has undergone the Inheritance Ceremony, their souls are inevitably damaged, and this flaw will bring a lot of trouble when condensing Pale Blood.”
“Advancing any further is too difficult!”
“And you’re the only one without this worry.”
Green spoke eloquently.
“What if I had also undergone the Inheritance Ceremony?” Roger posed another question.
“In that case, the Privy Council would directly appoint soone new.”
“Just like they once did with .”
He sighed.
“But now, the situation is different. During peace, I had a great say in the appointnt of a new Knight Commander. Now, with the Black Tide surging, the Round Table Knight Order needs a strong new commander.”
“I hope you can strive for it.”
“After all, no one else who becos Commander will indulge you like I do. That little secret of yours is bound to be exposed sooner or later, and when that ti cos, the only thing waiting for you is to be cleared out.”
“Do you understand what I an?”
“Bedivere, your potential and experience outstrip the others. Being overly cautious these years has limited the growth of your strength. Your soul has no flaws, and you should easily reach or surpass Lancelot.”
“The Privy Council will help the new Commander repair the flaws in his soul. If it’s you, you could even beco more perfect on this basis, and when you break through to the Fourth Tier, you’ll also gain extraordinary combat power!”
Roger’s gaze narrowed. Without acceptance or rejection, he asked, “What should I do?”
“It’s simple. Show everyone your strength, then beco the brightest one in the midst of the Black Tide. With such a performance, plus my recomndation.”
“The position of Knight Commander will undoubtedly be yours!”
Roger bowed his head.
“Mr. Green, thank you for your recognition. I will consider it carefully.”
“It’s a rare opportunity.”
“Don’t miss it.”
Before leaving, Green seed to think of sothing and suddenly stopped Roger.
“I heard from Gaharad that you’ve moved into the manor ruins of the Lietta Family?”
Roger nodded.
“Ti flies so fast.”
“I can still rember what she looked like when she married .”
“Has everything there remained much the sa as it was years ago?”
“It’s a pity, nothing can ever return to the way it was.”
After Roger left, Green’s wooden chair swiveled to face the scenery outside once more. Soon after, a figure appeared in the room.
“Mr. Green, Bedivere has returned to the hotel. I’ve already dispatched people to watch him closely.”
“Mhm.”
“This old guy has been lying low all along. My term is up, and this batch of Round Table Knights has accomplished their mission. It’s ti for them to be destroyed.”
He glanced sideways at Gaharad.
“As the new Commander, you’ll need the allegiance of new mbers.”
“Utilized properly, this Black Tide is the perfect opportunity to cleanse. People like Bedivere, who are beyond our control, must be drawn onto our chariot sohow.”
“Lancelot and Gawain are determined to seize the position of Commander. That’s perfect, how else will they fight desperately in the upcoming struggle against the Black Tide if they aren’t given so sweeteners?”
Gaharad just stood there quietly.
“After so many years, the Privy Council has harvested another portion of Otherworldly Souls, enough to create a new batch of Round Table Knights.”
“Or perhaps you’d like to rena your team?”
“Nad after Olympus?”
“Hm… Tarot cards aren’t bad either.”
