In the study, Jiangbei and Dr. Luo had been waiting for a long ti, one to report on work, and the other for a dical re-examination and to deliver test results.
"Could the boss be... asleep?" Dr. Luo glanced at his new watch and teased.
Jiangbei shook his head, "Impossible."
"Heroes struggle to pass the beauty barrier, you wouldn’t understand."
Jiangbei: "..."
I wouldn’t understand? As if you’re any expert yourself, we’re both bachelors just the sa!
"The madam is pregnant, didn’t you know?"
Hearing this, Dr. Luo was utterly shocked and instantly stood up, "I just conducted a check-up on the madam at the beginning of the month, there was no sign of..."
"She fainted in Jin City this afternoon, said it’s just been half a month. What? You didn’t receive a red envelope?"
Dr. Luo: "..."
"I did receive it, but I thought it was..."
"You didn’t think it was a bonus, did you?"
Dr. Luo pursed his lips and smiled without responding. When he received the text ssage reminder that evening, he indeed had thought so. It was a hefty sum, almost equal to half a year’s salary.
"The boss is really... understanding!"
"Hard to find one even with a lantern." Jiangbei raised an eyebrow and replied, feeling content internally.
He wasn’t happy about receiving any large sum; he was truly delighted for Wang Junchen and Ye Wanhua, for they had finally found their happiness.
He hoped the child would be healthy.
Suddenly, the door to the study opened.
After Wang Junchen entered, he seriously tugged at his gray tie, and before even reaching the desk, he had already taken off his black shirt.
Well-built with toned muscles, he hardly looked like a man over forty!
Jiangbei watched him with admiration.
Then, Dr. Luo began the re-examination.
"Do you still feel itchy today?"
Wang Junchen shook his head, "No."
"Hmm, not bad, keep using the dicine, and in two more days at most... your skin should fully recover," Dr. Luo declared confidently after the examination.
"Will it recur in the future?"
He asked this because he was well aware that his condition stemd from drug poisoning, not just ordinary contact dermatitis.
"No, it has all been completely cleared."
Saying so, Dr. Luo took the lab report out of the dical box and handed it to Wang Junchen.
"Good, thank you!"
A hint of a smile flashed across his somber face.
Seeing this, Jiangbei quietly sighed in relief and cursed internally: Damn Tang Xiaowan, such a little demon, a real troublemaker.
...
anwhile, in Qing City i Garden, Tang Xiaowan sneezed several tis.
She quickly touched her nose.
Leng Lingxiao smirked, "Caught a cold!"
"Cut it out, that’s not it. It must be Wang Junchen, that big devil, speaking ill of ," Tang Xiaowan retorted with a frown, then continued rummaging through the chest drawers, "Really, Granny, where did you hide it?"
"Didn’t she give you even a hint?"
"Not a thing, Granny says she doesn’t know, seriously, how could she not know."
"Oh, maybe she really doesn’t."
"Nonsense, how could that be? Do they take for a three-year-old, that easily fooled?" Tang Xiaowan pouted and shot Leng Lingxiao a look of exasperation.
They were currently in a major search in the study, looking for sothing Tang Xiaowan had lost.
During this ti, Tang Xiaowan had been pondering the scene where she was chased by a man in black. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t rember when she lost her mory, whether it was before the afternoon nap that day or even earlier.
She began to question her own mory.
Photo albums? Diaries? They were all related to mory.
Had I not fully recovered yet?
Why wouldn’t Grandma admit... that she had hidden them? Could those items contain a secret... that I shouldn’t know about?
Or were they... stolen by Wang Junchen’s n? But why would he need those things?
While Tang Xiaowan was imrsed in self-analysis, Leng Lingxiao luckily found a switch hidden in the bookshelf, and suddenly, there was a muffled sound.
"What’s that, Huahua? What was that sound?"
"It seems like there’s a secret compartnt here," Leng Lingxiao said, squeezing his eyes and looking proud.
Tang Xiaowan frowned and quickly walked over, opening the secret compartnt in disbelief, and took out two photo albums and four diaries.
Yes, these were the things she had lost.
"Hey, Tangtang, what’s up? Why are you spacing out? Don’t tell you hid these yourself?"
Tang Xiaowan quickly flipped through them, and her heart shivered. Then she slowly raised her head and looked at Leng Lingxiao steadily, "No, there’s sothing wrong."
"These aren’t the things you lost?"
"Yes, they are, but this place... I thoroughly searched here last ti I ca, and I even found a very old music score."
"The weird dley you played last ti?"
"Strange, is Grandma getting senile? That day when the music scores were ntioned... Grandma should have known I found this place, so why would she still put things here, but the music score is gone?"
Tang Xiaowan blinked her big eyes, looking now at the secret compartnt, now at the albums and diaries, feeling that sothing was off, and it was strange.
"Could it be that you rembered wrong?"
"Impossible."
Leng Lingxiao looked skeptical. After all, in his mory, his little wife was often forgetful.
"That certain? Think again."
"Funny, I grew up here. There’s nowhere I haven’t searched over. There definitely wasn’t a secret compartnt here before, not to ntion the last ti I ca here..."
She cut herself off midsentence.
The last ti she had searched the i Garden bookshelf, she seed, perhaps, to indeed have missed this spot.
When the music score fell out of the book, her attention was completely diverted, so she didn’t continue searching and went straight to the music room.
Due to the ravages of ti, the end of the music score was illegible.
She had improvised when she played it.
"Oh, well, it seems I didn’t find this place at that ti, but..."
"But it’s getting late, it’s ti for bed."
As he spoke, Leng Lingxiao gently picked up Tang Xiaowan with a mischievous smile and left the study.
"This is my parents’ house; you can’t ss around!"
"Didn’t Grandma transfer i Garden to you a long ti ago as a dowry? How can it still be considered your parents’ house? At most, it’s like our little palace when we travel."
"Ugh, disgusting, twisting words."
Leng Lingxiao didn’t continue the conversation, his handso face full of smugness.
Having his little wife in his arms was the happiest thing.
The autumn in Qingcheng was just slightly cool, not too cold. That night, Tang Xiaowan slept exceptionally sweetly, only slowly opening her beautiful eyes when the sun was high the next day.
No one was beside her, not even on the balcony. Stretching lazily, she thought to herself that she had just managed to skip the morning exercise.
"Wow, the weather is nice, so comfortable!"
Little did she know, it was just a false joy.
Tang Xiaowan soon found a pink sticky note on her neatly pressed dress: "Put on the dress and et at the front door."
"Ugh, what’s this supposed to be? Thought I could skip morning exercise but still can’t get away."
"Wearing a dress to run, impressive idea."
"Chou Huahua, hmm, you’ll get no lunch, let’s starve you a bit to teach you a lesson."
"Annoying, you have no sympathy at all!"
Despite her complaints, ultimately, Tang Xiaowan obediently put on the floral long dress that Leng Lingxiao had specifically prepared for her.
In front of the mirror, she looked left and right, posing as if she was the most beautiful girl in the world.
"Running? Let’s run, who’s afraid?"
