Chapter 470: Chapter 470: Twins

Minmin’s belly during the first three months wasn’t very noticeable, possibly because she wore more clothes in the winter which hid the size, but as April arrived and she switched to lighter clothing, her belly at nearly four months looked as big as soone else’s at six or seven months.

She imdiately began to worry. Her first pregnancy had also looked bigger than others’, and it had already been difficult to deliver then. Now, this ti her belly seed even larger than when she had been four months pregnant with Lele; one could only imagine how big it would get by the ti she was ready to give birth.

Minmin reminisced about her first childbirth, feeling as if she had crossed over from death’s door, and it terrified her to think about it now. If it wasn’t for the desire for a cute daughter, she really wouldn’t want to risk a second pregnancy, especially if it turned out to be another son, then she wouldn’t want to get pregnant again.

Minmin started scrutinizing her diet, wondering if she was eating too much and resting too frequently.

Minmin ate three fixed als a day; she understood the importance of a regular eating schedule. Normally, she would eat one bowl of rice per al, but now she had started eating an extra half bowl and also added a snack in the afternoon. By the fourth month, she could eat more than she had during the first three months and more than during her previous pregnancy. She was always feeling hungry and would snack on other things outside al tis, because Peiying was around to make various dishes she liked, which she would then leave in the pot or in the fridge to be heated when needed.

With this way of eating, she indeed gained weight quickly. Minmin privately reflected on her recent eating habits and then resolved to cut out unnecessary snacks and pastries.

Lele was over nine months old now and, like her, needed four als a day. Whenever Chen Guizhi fed Lele, she would also call Minmin to eat. Then Minmin would say she wasn’t hungry. After a couple of tis, Chen Guizhi began to urge her seriously, “The child inside you is growing larger, you can’t not eat. With all the work and studying you do every day, you’ll collapse if you don’t eat. Even if you don’t want to think about yourself, you should think about the baby inside you. Don’t these foods agree with you? Tell what you want to eat, and I’ll make it for you.”

Minmin found it hard to explain to her mother with a bitter laugh, “Mom, don’t you think my belly is too big now? If I keep eating like this, I’m afraid it will be difficult to give birth.”

Chen Guizhi didn’t quite agree with her. She believed that a good appetite was a blessing and a larger baby was easier to bring up; having already gone through one childbirth, she was sure the second would be much easier.

“I don’t think you’re eating that much, when you were pregnant with Lele, didn’t you say your belly looked bigger than others’? Yet Lele wasn’t even seven pounds when he was born.”

“Mom, I don’t gain weight anywhere else, all the nutrients go straight to my belly. It’s only been four months now, if I continue eating this way, you can imagine how big I’ll get by the ti I’m close to delivery. A natural birth won’t be possible then; it would need to be a caesarean section. Do you know what a caesarean section is? They cut the belly open to take the child out, then sew it back up with needle and thread. It’s excruciatingly painful and very hard to recover from,” she knew that this explanation would sound terrifying to Chen Guizhi’s older generation.

Chen Guizhi, indeed startled by the explanation, quickly responded, “Then, can the stomach even shrink back? If that’s the case, Minmin, maybe you should endure a little hunger, eat less.”

But imdiately feeling that sothing was amiss, she hastily added, “But you can’t just not eat at all, you definitely need to eat your three als properly.”

Minmin happily agreed.

Then, she was taphorically cursed as whether in classes or at the factory, she always felt hungry all day, especially just before al tis. It was not just ordinary hunger; it felt like dizziness and weakness were taking over, leaving her pale and drained.

Once, during a eting with employees at the costics factory, she felt dizzy and it was only thanks to an assistant’s quick reaction that she didn’t collapse on the spot due to extre hunger.

Later, when Yiguang found out, he was furious and imdiately took her to the hospital for an examination, distressed over how many days she had gone (eating only three als and abstaining from snacks) and whether it had adversely affected her health.

Leaving the hospital, Minmin was still a bit dazed.

Looking at the cautious man beside her, she spoke, “Daddy Lele, the doctor said, the doctor said there are two babies in my belly?”

Yiguang’s face was still tense as he nodded, “It must be true, all experienced doctors. This was Mrs. Zhou’s recomndation, she’s very accurate with these matters. We should really thank Mrs. Zhou later.”

A smile couldn’t help spreading across Minmin’s face, “If that’s the case, do you hope they are two boys or two girls, or one of each?” She then beca anxious again, “I was just wondering why I felt so hungry all day long; it turns out there are two little ones in there. I’ve been starving these past few days, I hope it hasn’t affected them?”

Yiguang carefully helped her into the car, grateful that he had brought the Jeep today. Although the Jeep’s rear seat was a bit high, it was far better than squeezing into a bus or walking.

After she was seated, he finally responded to her earlier question, “It’s okay, the doctor also said the twins are developing well and everything looks normal. You don’t need to be too nervous, we should just stay calm like we did when you were pregnant with Lele.”

“Who says I wasn’t nervous when I was pregnant with Lele?”

“Alright, alright, we’re on our second pregnancy now, we’re more experienced, we shouldn’t be nervous,” Yiguang started the engine and began to drive.

Minmin noticed he was driving very slowly, then laughed, “You tell not to be nervous, yet look at you, you’re no calr than I am.”

Yiguang replied with a laugh, “Of course, I have my three treasures in the car, I naturally have to be extra cautious.”

“By the way, you didn’t answer my previous question about whether you want boys or girls?”

“One of each,” he replied.

“I hope for two girls,” Minmin said dreamily, “and to dress them exactly alike, in the sa dresses and with matching braids. Just thinking about it makes them seem incredibly cute!”
