SERICA

We were halfway through the fifth round when I noticed Lily looming over my shoulder. Deneel and I were working our way through the K’s, having drafted an École de Marchand girl nad Navik in round four. As we shared our thoughts on the available options, a soft shuffling noise rose from behind us. Each sound of the cards was followed by the cartomancienne’s mutterings under her breath.

"Lily, got sothing to say back there?" I asked, turning to look at her cards.

"I’m not feelin’ your next pick", she said, pointing to the na Deneel and I had settled on, a combattant nad Kulpepper DuCamp.

"What’s wrong with her?" I asked, looking at the card in her hand. It was an upside-down Six of Swords, "Kulpepper’s a solid pick for combattant, and those are running pretty thin right now."

"I an, you’re welco to do whatever you want, I just don’t think you’re looking at the full picture."

Dropping my finger to the next na on the list, Kelsey Vorant, I asked, "What about her?"

From my experience and the other assembled tacticiennes’ opinions, there was a notable drop in quality between the two.

Lily drew another card, keeping it hidden, and nodded. "Checks out."

You’ve gotta be kidding .

"You don’t just have a grudge against Kulpepper, do you?"

"Huh!? Absolutely not!" She brought her deck up to her chest and shot a pained expression.

"You do, you’re just trying to pull one over on ." I knocked my boot into her shin and turned to Deneel, saying, "We’re going with Kulpepper."

Deneel folded the list and placed it to her chest, grinning at Lily’s antics. Behind her, Reilin made a solid attempt at feigning disinterest.

The dynamics of my collective were beginning to gel, and I felt grateful that none of its personalities were too grating.

As things proceeded, I stole glances at Cora, who seed to be carrying on a conversation with Aifric. Despite Cechele and her growing posse, a crew of the shittiest noble-born cunts I’d ever laid eyes on, the two seed to be getting along okay.

I decided I’d have to free both of them from Bonaparte’s clutches, regardless of the price.

"You- Your na’s Cen, right?" Reilin said, waving over our quiet, École Bonne teammate, "Think you could fetch us so refreshnts?"

I just about grabbed my leash to whack her across the thighs, "We aren’t doing that, princess."

Out of the corner of my eye, I caught a glare from Lily flash in Reilin’s direction.

Soone needs to work the brat out of her.

Reilin fluttered her lashes, "Oh, don’t make it like that. I just thought it was sothing we’d all appreciate."

"You go grab them then." I said, "If you need help carrying any of it, just say so."

"I didn’t mind..." Cen said under her breath, and I began to wonder if fighting this was a worthy endeavor.

I’d likely have to police the lord’s daughter night and day to quell her nasty habit. That or work her over in the evenings until she was too tired to pester the rest of them. In that event, she’d likely use her quivering legs as an excuse to do nothing herself.

"No one’s a servant here," I said, and grabbed her by the hand, yanking her from her seat. She tripped over her feet and followed to the aisle. Trailing , a naughty smile lit upon her lips.

That was not what I was thinking...

However, I couldn’t deny the appeal of dragging her back to the fourth-floor washroom while Deneel and company handled the upcoming picks.

Unfortunately, that didn’t co to pass. Cenemir followed close behind us, eager to help.

Together, we worked our way out into the auditorium’s surrounding structure and then outside, making our way to the École de Cuisine.

The night sky had darkened considerably. Storm-clouds lood close around the Corpusculaire’s cloud-break, and a chill wind blew over us.

"That’s new," Reilin said. The weather had been calm all day. Cenemir pressed close to my side, using as a wind-break, and tucked my whipping ponytail into the back of my blouse. "Thunderheads over there," she said, her voice was so soft I could barely make it out, "we should make this quick."

We rushed across the gardens, passing several upper-classmates also hurrying between the structures.

Steeling into the École de Cuisine, we slamd its door shut behind us. "Holy crap," Reilin said, "I thought the weather was supposed to weaken here."

Her comnt took my mind back to the Comncent address and the Dostique Departnt Head’s comnts on the potential for flooding.

"I think it’s just rare, not unheard of," I said as we wound around tables of older girls, most of whom were bent over books beside steaming bowls of onion soup and side-plates of potato galletes.

"Most years, a storm or two will push past the Corpusculaire," Cenemir offered in agreent as we reached the counter and loaded our arms with cones full of fried potato crisps and chilled balls of jellied pogranate juice.

"I fucking adore these things," Reilin said as Cenemir rushed to the counter to handle our business. A flash of light made my head turn, and a mont later, the boom of thunder shook the cafeteria’s glass walls.

"Damn, that was close," I said, before worming my way into a group of other interested girls to the École’s entrance. Outside, a wall of rain rolled across the yard, hitting the doors and wetting my shoes.

"The hell..." Reilin said, rolling up to my side, "No way I’m walking through that."

"This errand was your idea." I leveled back at her, "You can’t quit now."

To be honest, I didn’t want to either, but I wasn’t going to miss the rest of the draft over this nonsense.

"You two ready? We’ll just dash for it."

"I’m in heels bitch." she said and shot a look of pure contempt.

"And I didn’t pick out your shoes this morning. Take them off and carry them."

Cenemir pushed her head out the door, blinked, and pulled it back. Her mascara was already running. She wiped her cheeks against her shoulder and asked, "You don’t need us there, right?"

Forcing her to drench her outfit would likely give the wrong impression, but I wasn’t going to let Reilin off the hook so easily.

"You can stay if you want, Cen. We’ll co back for you when things are over."

"You’re going to leave her here alone?" Reilin refused to give up, "You go on, I’ll keep her company."

"Really? I’m in a white blouse. I am not going to be the only one getting drenched out there. You’re coming with , like it or not." The words left my mouth before I could comprehend what I ant by them.

I’d be rejoining the rest of the team in a soaked white shirt, my tits on full display. Cen wore black and Reilin crimson; they’d have it easy.

I contemplated asking one of them to trade outfits with before the solution hit. I’d have to hit up the lost and found again.

I’d already spent enough ti in used panties, and did not savor the idea of taking another turn at it.

"You really want to do this shit?" Reilin asked, squeezing the crinkling wax-paper-bound snacks to her small chest.

"I don’t know," lightning struck again, illuminating waves of rolling rain-walls, "You know we’ll encounter worse on the excursion, but do whatever you like..."

She huffed and spun, taking a step away before saying, "You’re not going to guilt ."

Cenemir looked annoyed. She rounded and t Reilin’s shoulder with her own, pushing her toward the door. I set an arm to the black-clad girl’s back, lending my strength and guiding the three of us out into the rain.
