Chapter 754: Chapter 747 Wu ng’s Proposal

In the living room, the furnishings were simple yet elegant.

Whether it was tables, chairs, or coffee tables, judging solely by their appearance, they were definitely a level higher than those found in an ordinary residence.

When Chen Hai entered, the place was empty, not a person in sight.

Frowning slightly, he casually found a chair close to the main doorway of the living room and sat down, just as a figure dressed in brocade erged from behind a screen on one side of the room.

“Chen Hai, since the day we parted, have you ever thought that we would et again under these circumstances?” The brocade-clad figure greeted Chen Hai cheerfully.

“Captain Wu…” Upon recognizing the face of the man in brocade, Chen Hai was slightly startled.

He truly hadn’t expected that Wu ng, who was clearly suspected of collusion with the enemy and had been taken to the Law Enforcent Hall, had not only erged completely unscathed after just a few days but had also taken over Hua Qing’s position and beco the squadron leader.

With an obvious look of surprise, he realized that besides gaining a higher position, Wu ng, who seed to only be at the Mid Period of Heavenly Immortal, now displayed the strength of a Golden Immortal.

“I knew it, this guy is a crafty old fox; he definitely hid his strength.”

“Who knows, the realm of Golden Immortal he’s showing might not even be his full strength!”

Muttering to himself and observing the smiling Wu ng in front of him, Chen Hai was initially shocked but soon collected himself.

“Congratulations, Captain Wu, best wishes!”

“Under your brilliant leadership, Lord Wu, our Ninth Squadron has a boundless future and is sure to prosper.”

Feeling it was better to flatter him, Chen Hai quickly offered his complints.

After all, a few nice words cost nothing.

Honestly, he had always agreed with Wu ng’s thods, and he was pleased to see him taking over the Ninth Squadron.

If Wu ng hadn’t returned and soone like Fang Xuan from before had beco his superior, that would have been real trouble for Chen Hai.

In such a scenario, wanting to solely focus on Cultivation and maintain peace, he might have had to look for a chance to secretly eliminate that person.

“Walking the night road too often, you are bound to encounter ghosts,” an ancient saying that held deep truth.

The people who had died at Chen Hai’s hands included mbers from the Demon Palace and those belonging to the Heavenly Mansion. The fact that his deeds had not been exposed was purely good fortune.

Repeatedly killing his imdiate superiors could not remain hidden forever and would eventually co to light.

He was well aware of this.

Given another choice, he genuinely did not wish to strike at his colleagues or superiors.

Now, with Wu ng, a follower of the Gou Path, taking over the position left by Hua Qing as the squadron leader, this was naturally the best outco for Chen Hai.

“In the Enemy-breaking Camp, the position of squadron leader isn’t easy to hold, with many eyes coveting it.”

“Being taken to the Law Enforcent Hall, I had to show so of my true capabilities to prove my innocence.”

“Truth be told, I didn’t really want this job as squadron leader; it sort of fell into my lap, and I would rather have kept my position as team leader—it’s much more comfortable!”

From his expression, it was clear that Wu ng was bragging, yet he consistently sighed and lanted as he spoke.

This extre mismatch of speech and behavior made him seem incredibly conceited.

“Lord Wu, may I ask why you have summoned here…”

After Wu ng finished his monologue, Chen Hai finally spoke, having no interest in pandering, and got straight to the point with his question.

“Being both practitioners of the Gou Path, Chen Hai, I know you’re not a man who likes being in the lilight. You prefer to make your fortune quietly.”

“I’ve summoned you here because I see potential in you and want you to take over as the captain of Team 7.”

“Don’t look down on this position; although you only have a few underlings, as long as you hold power, you won’t worry about earning rit.”

“How about it? Are you interested in my proposal?”

With an insinuating chuckle, Wu ng began to speak.

“Thank you for your kindness, Lord Wu, but I, Chen, am neither talented nor learned enough for the position of team captain!”

“I’d rather be an ordinary soldier in the camp as long as I can practice cultivation in peace.”

Shaking his head like a rattle-drum, Chen Hai declined.

Below the heavens, there’s never a free lunch. If he really took over as team captain, who knew what Wu ng might expect of him?

As the saying goes, ‘He who takes the bribe becos weak-handed.’ Once becoming team captain, if by chance, Wu ng, under the pretext of discussing philosophy, called upon him for long night discussions, how would he handle that?

“Chen Hai, don’t reject the offer so outright!”

“I know you like to lay low, but without resources, day-long cultivation in your room would hardly advance your practice.”

“I have a guaranteed, risk-free way to earn a lot of rit. After you take over as team captain, you just need to cooperate with a little, and I assure you, you’ll get your fair share of the rits.”

“With enough rits, what Spiritual Objects couldn’t you obtain?”

“You and I, working together, might advance your realm to that of a Golden Immortal in just a few decades.”

Leaning close to Chen Hai, Wu ng wore a mysterious expression and spoke in a hushed tone.

This guy, due to his excessive prudence was generally despised in the Enemy-breaking Camp; apart from the deceased Hua Qing, he likely had no friends.

Perhaps, for this reason, he approached Chen Hai, a kindred spirit, hoping to pull him into this lucrative business of earning rit.

“What exactly is this opportunity? Lord Wu, could you elaborate a bit?”

Although not greatly enticed by the idea of earning rit, Chen Hai’s curiosity was piqued by Wu ng’s deanor. After a mont of contemplation, he tentatively asked.

“There’s no harm in telling you,” Wu ng, looking smug, continued with a faint smile. “Not long ago, I developed a Detoxification Pill that works wonders against a certain plague.”

“With my current level of access, I can list that Detoxification Pill in the rit Hall so that others can exchange it for rit points.”

“The excellent opportunity I ntioned is the business of these Detoxification Pills.”

“The task I need you to do is very simple. With your capabilities of staying hidden, just spread that plague when needed.”

“The right to rain belongs to those who sell the umbrellas, and the rain will always stop. In the future, we would be those umbrella sellers…”

Wu ng’s words made Chen Hai shudder repeatedly.

He faintly felt as though so great terror was imminent. He didn’t dare to respond, and got up to leave imdiately.

“Chen Hai, you’ve already heard my plan, yet you want to walk away. This really puts in a difficult position!”

“Do you believe that the mont you walk out, I will promote one who is most strict to beco the captain of your team?”

“Then, I would like to see how you can continue to cultivate in peace.”

Wu ng’s sinister voice continued to echo.

Chen Hai completely ignored him and turned to walk out towards the living room.
