Cultivating through increasing my stats in America Chapter 196 - 155: Not Dead at the Tomb3
When they saw Li Ang, it was as if a foreigner had suddenly shown up at their company, so it was quite reasonable for a small crowd to gather around for a look.
Walking onto the indoor field, Li Ang once again experienced the sensation of having all eyes fixed on him.
However, by now, he had already grown accustod to such attention, and he didn’t feel nervous at all.
The reason people tend to feel nervous is mostly because of "worry," fearing they won’t perform well, uncertain of how others will perceive them, or apprehensive about events that can’t be predicted, and so on.
But when you have enough self-confidence, when you stop caring about these people or things, your sense of nervousness will naturally dissipate.
"Are you the new team mber, Li?"
"I saw your information in the notification. Judging from your achievents, you must be quite ’capable’ to join our team."
Most people didn’t pay much attention to his arrival, so after a glance, they quickly refocused on their training.
There were also a few people who seed a bit unfriendly towards Li Ang right from the beginning.
The reasons for this were simple, whether it was due to prejudice about performance and age, racial bias, or hostility arising from the perceived threat to their own position within the team.
Of course, there were also a couple who were quite enthusiastic toward him.
"Hey, Li, I once studied in China, and I’m glad to et you. My na is Rafe."
This young man with glasses and blond hair, who seed sowhat reserved, was the first to co up and shake hands with him.
There was also a woman with healthy wheatish skin and an athlete’s build, radiating a wild beauty, who had been watching him intently ever since he walked in, her gaze sweeping from head to toe, and then bottom to top.
Her good looks and figure would stand out on any street, let alone in this cycling team where females were scarce.
"Hello, my na is Moira."
Without a doubt, her enthusiasm deepened the prejudice of those few who already held a bias against Li Ang.
Manager Olsad, knowing that today was the day Li Ang was joining, had also specifically co over to give a brief introduction and hold a short et-and-greet.
"Li Ang, for now, you will just participate in the sa training as everyone else."
Li Ang nodded and observed the indoor training thods used by everyone.
The focus of the training was mainly on two aspects, one being strength training and power output enhancent for the lower limbs, and the other being cardiovascular endurance.
Seeing Li Ang sowhat at a loss, Rafe kindly asked if he had used any of these training machines before.
Li Ang shook his head, his training on the bicycle had indeed been nothing but simple riding; as for these various machines tailored for professional cyclists, he hadn’t even seen them, let alone used them.
Li Ang hadn’t trained with any of them, which really surprised Rafe, who thought that since the manager had included him in the team, it must an he recognized his strength. Yet, it was strange that Li Ang hadn’t used any of these professional training thods.
A few others, upon hearing this, quickly withdrew their attention, clearly feeling that a self-taught cyclist like Li Ang didn’t deserve their focus.
"This machine is for training and testing your riding power output," Rafe began.
As if concerned that Li Ang might not understand, Rafe continued his explanation:
"Riding power output is essentially strength multiplied by speed, which can be simply seen as the force you apply to the pedals multiplied by the speed of the cadence."
"In other words, either increase your strength or your speed, and either will raise your power output."
Although Li Ang was well aware of these fundantals, out of respect, he patiently listened to the explanation.
"Later, we’ll be doing a regular power output test to evaluate everyone’s training progress, and you can join in. There’s no particular technique to using it; just pedal hard."
"This one, is for training leg strength..."
At the squat rack, Moira threw a glance at Li Ang before shouldering a 140 kg barbell and squatting down, displaying an impressive curvature of her glutes that couldn’t be achieved by those won who only took photos in the gym every day.
Rafe went over so of the commonly used training thods with Li Ang.
"Additionally, this afternoon we’ll head outdoors for riding training, and starting from tomorrow, we’ll kick off the last training cycle before the race."
"Thank you for the explanation, I understand a lot more now."
"You’re welco, now I’m going to train."
Even though Rafe had a positive first impression of Li Ang, he still didn’t have high hopes for his prospects.
Scientific training is almost indispensable in a professional athlete’s regin, and if Li Ang hadn’t undergone such training, it ant he was too far behind from the start. Catching up would require even more effort.
But what professional athlete isn’t hardworking? No matter how hard you try, there’s a limit to the amount of training you can complete each day. So things, once you fall behind, you can never catch up with your peers, which is cruel, but also a reality.
Even if Li Ang was exceptionally talented, weren’t all the others present also one in ten thousand geniuses?
Being able to join one of the only two intercontinental pro teams in Arica, genius was rely an entry-level requirent.
After listening to the explanations, Li Ang casually tried a few machines to get a feel for them, but soon the coach issued a command to assemble.
"Everyone, co over and test your power output. Those who’ve been slacking, you might deceive others, but you can’t cheat your own body."
