"Grand Madam, Grand Madam."
Bao Shu rushed to find the Old Madam as soon as she returned to the manor.
The Old Madam, beaming with joy, waved her hand at the little one.
Just as the little one clambered onto the Old Madam’s lap, her cheap scoundrel of a father pulled her down.
"Be more careful."
Lu Yuan said sternly.
Bao Shu sulkily glared at her cheap father, then nestled into the Old Madam’s embrace to stew in her grievances.
The Old Madam asked, "Did you have fun today?"
"Fun."
Kids’ tempers co and go quickly. At her lively and talkative age, Bao Shu started gesturing animatedly to the Old Madam in no ti at all.
"Piggy, eaten!"
She was very upset. Such an adorable piggy, eaten just like that.
The more she thought about it, the sadder she beca, and soon she was bawling her eyes out.
The Old Madam asked, "Was it tasty?"
Bao Shu sniffled and replied, "Tasty."
"..."
ng Qianqian erged from the small kitchen with a bowl of digestion soup, only to notice a sneaky figure clinging to the crack of the door like an undignified octopus, straining her eyes to see inside.
"Mother?"
ng Qianqian called out quizzically.
Liu Qingyun quickly pulled away from the door, straightened up, put on her stern mother-in-law act, and snapped, "Eating again? You eat so much but still don’t gain a pound!"
ng Qianqian muttered, "But most of tonight’s dishes were eaten by Mother."
Even Bao Shu barely got a few bites.
Of course, Bao Shu was too young to eat much anyway; eating more might upset her stomach.
Liu Qingyun glared at ng Qianqian. "How dare you talk back? Is this how you Central Plains people serve your mother-in-law?"
ng Qianqian pursed her lips, suppressing a laugh, and said with a look of feigned reverence and fear, "Mother is right. Mother, the small kitchen just made so digestion soup. Since you’re here, why not have so too?"
"No, no, I didn’t eat that much."
Liu Qingyun touched her belly and walked off with a stoic expression.
ng Qianqian didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Clearly, she wanted to see her son but pretended she absolutely didn’t want to.
"Ban Xia."
Ban Xia, who was in the courtyard arranging potted plants with Yuan Yang, quickly walked over. "Miss."
ng Qianqian instructed, "Take a bowl of digestion soup to Madam."
Ban Xia replied, "Understood."
ng Qianqian and Lu Yuan stayed in Tinglan Garden for over an hour. After coaxing Bao Shu and the Old Madam to sleep, they both returned to the main courtyard together.
ng Qianqian, as if idly chatting, recounted the entire incident of Liu Qingyun beating up Madam Wei.
She didn’t embellish or plead on Liu Qingyun’s behalf; she rely stated the facts objectively.
Lu Yuan, as if not hearing her, maintained a cold deanor and went to wash up.
ng Qianqian sighed softly.
After they each finished washing up, they lay down on the cool linen-covered wedding bed.
No one ntioned sleeping on the floor this ti. After all, with Liu Qingyun’s personality, she was likely to check on them again in the middle of the night.
Thinking about what happened this morning, ng Qianqian’s palms still felt a little hot.
"How could it be so..."
"So what?"
Lu Yuan asked indifferently.
ng Qianqian quickly shut her mouth, blinked, and said, "Nothing!"
What was she thinking, ng Xiaojiu?
See no evil, hear no evil, think no evil!
Lu Yuan gazed coldly at the canopy above. "If you have sothing to say, say it. Don’t stamr."
"Is this sothing I should even talk about?"
ng Qianqian muttered in despair, then racked her brains for another topic. "Oh, um... the Chu Family case. You took the records from the Book Collection Pavilion. Does that an you don’t want to keep investigating? Did you already know that King Chu was the Supre Emperor’s son and that the Crown Prince killed King Chu’s family?"
"King Chu was the Supre Emperor’s son? Who told you that?" Lu Yuan thought for a mont. "The Supre Emperor?"
ng Qianqian nodded. "You didn’t know King Chu’s father was the Supre Emperor?"
Lu Yuan shook his head solemnly. "I didn’t."
ng Qianqian turned her head to look at him. "Then why don’t you let investigate?"
Lu Yuan replied flatly, "I only know the Crown Prince was the murderer. I didn’t know King Chu was the Crown Prince’s brother. No wonder, while the Crown Prince was gravely ill, he always cried out King Chu’s na in his nightmares."
ng Qianqian asked suspiciously, "So, the Crown Prince really died of illness?"
Lu Yuan sighed. "After killing King Chu’s family, he spent every day consud by regret. If he didn’t die from illness, he scared himself to death."
ng Qianqian sighed. "If only he’d known this earlier, there’d have been no need for all this."
Lu Yuan paused and asked strangely, "Is that what you were just thinking about?"
"I..."
ng Qianqian cleared her throat, raised the back of her hand to her flushed cheeks, and said, "Yes. By the way, how do you think the Crown Prince found out about King Chu’s parentage?"
Lu Yuan replied, "Naturally, soone told him."
ng Qianqian asked, "Pri Minister Xun? Over seven years ago, Pri Minister Xun went west on campaign. A year later, the Chu Family tragedy occurred. If it was him, his plotting is truly deep."
"It’s likely Pri Minister Xun not only told him but also helped him. Speaking of which, there’s a traitor among the Twelve Guards. Today at the Princess Mansion, I ntioned this to Chen Long. He didn’t seem surprised, so I think he’s aware of it too."
Lu Yuan’s face darkened. "You t with Chen Long again?"
ng Qianqian looked confused. Did you miss the main point here?
"I was only trying to find out who the traitor among the Twelve Guards is."
Lu Yuan laughed coldly. "Before, you said you were trying to recruit him. Now, it’s about investigating a traitor. ng Xiaojiu, how many of your words are true?"
ng Qianqian’s eyes darted around as she shuffled closer to him, wrapped in her Xiangyun Sha like a little silkworm.
She looked up at him with wide eyes. "Grand Commander, are you jealous?"
Lu Yuan said coolly, "Of course not."
ng Qianqian shalessly flattered, "In my heart, the Grand Commander is always number one. No one can compare to the Grand Commander."
Lu Yuan snorted coldly. "Hmph."
ng Qianqian continued, "I’m absolutely loyal to the Grand Commander. Everyone I recruit will also work for the Grand Commander in the future. Please rest assured!"
Lu Yuan ignored her.
Still not satisfied?
ng Qianqian racked her brain and said, "Fine, from now on, before I see Chen Long, I’ll report to the Grand Commander first. If the Grand Commander doesn’t approve, I won’t see him again."
Lu Yuan said coldly, "You said it."
ng Qianqian nodded vigorously. "Yes, yes, I said it."
Not that I’ll actually listen to you.
Lu Yuan chuckled. "I don’t believe you."
ng Qianqian: My husband is too clever. This is not good...
"Really, really! I swear, I’ll definitely listen to the Grand Commander. You believe , don’t you? Believe , believe , please!"
To stop her hands from wandering, ng Qianqian pinned herself tightly in her Xiangyun Sha, unable to move her arms, resorting to nuzzling his shoulder with her head.
Lu Yuan’s Adam’s apple bobbed slightly. After a mont, he raised his arm, pulled her into an embrace, and pressed his large hand on her restless head.
ng Qianqian froze. "Grand Commander?"
Lu Yuan’s voice was husky. "Sleep."
ng Qianqian: "But it’s hot."
Lu Yuan: "Make another sound, and I’ll throw you out."
ng Qianqian: "Okay."
The night was as cool as water, and the stars shone brightly.
ng Qianqian didn’t dare move, planning to crawl back over once he fell asleep.
Lu Yuan tried to focus on important matters to calm himself. He finally spoke in a low voice, "ng Xiaojiu, the traitor among the Twelve Guards may not be just..."
"Huff~ Huff~"
ng Qianqian was already sound asleep, drooling away.
Lu Yuan: "...One."
