Silos Spring Village

" ... From shadowed halls where echoes sleep,

A whispered plea, a silent weep.

Her humble heart, a grateful fla,

Ascends to greet your ancestral na.

For in your souls, a wisdom lies,

Beyond the veil of mortal eyes.

You saw her worth, though small and weak,

And offered service, for her sake.

Through trials, faces, and battles won,

Your guiding light, beneath the shadows spun.

A tapestry of strength and grace,

Woven by ti, in this sacred space.

Your spirits soar, on wings of might,

A beacon bright, in endless night.

And she, a child, within your care,

Forever bound, beyond compare.

With reverence deep and gratitude’s song,

Her spirit bows, where you belong.

Accept her praise, her humble vow,

To serve your legacy, now and forever more."

The hoarse voice of Mammy Adonai rang throughout space as she sprinkled red water all over Briar, who was currently sitting cross-legged on a reed mat, covered in a black and red cloth with her head lowered down.

It was nearing towards dusk, and there were a lot of villagers sitting down with their hands clasped together, clapping as Mammy Adonai gave praise to the ancestors who would be guiding Briar in this journey she was about to take.

The day of the ceremony had finally arrived and those who should be in attendance were all there, witnessing this wonderful mont. a mont that they were joyful about when happening to another family’s child and not theirs.

Briar had her eyes fixated on the mat as she listened to Mammy Adonai praising the ancestors, spiritualists for her and leaving her in their hands.

She couldn’t believe that a day like that finally arrived for her. She had been running away from this fate since she was young. Who would have guessed that the man she loved was the one who pushed her into what she didn’t want to do previously?

Fate was interesting, wasn’t it?

After the praise, Briar was made to stand on her feet and was led by Mammy Adonai to circle the bonfire ten tis as Mammy Adonai chanted a mysterious hymn that Briar couldn’t even decipher.

Whatever it was, it shouldn’t be harmful. She could feel that.

The ceremony, in earnest, wasn’t anything tedious or lengthy. She could tolerate it.

Once that part was done, Briar was taken back to the reed mat where she sat down on her knees with her palms facing upwards.

Mammy Adonai stood in front of her with a kind smile on her face. Briar could tell that the old lady was happy. She was infected by that as well.

Two assistants, ca forward holding familiar cow hides as well as other things she had seen Mammy Adonai using when treating people.

"Dear child, tonight you have graduated and have stepped on the path of being a spiritualist. Your na shall be called Mammy Briar and you should always rember the weight that the title carries."

Briar nodded her head, accepting what the older lady was saying, though she didn’t plan on making anyone call her by that title as of yet. She was still young. Perhaps in the future when she was older. Maybe then she would consider it.

After making a heartfelt speech, Mammy Adonai gently put the cowhides in Briar’s hands and she accepted them with a generous heart.

The cow hides were very important relics for a spiritualist. They were like carpets. Most of the ti, spiritualists serve others while seated and these cow hides were used for that.

If there were more, putting them on the wall for decoration was doable as well. Anyway, there were several myths and legends behind the cow hides that Briar just didn’t understand, but knew that she must have these no matter what.

She also received new fabrics from Mammy Adonai that she would need to wrap herself with when working, as well as to cover the walls of the special room where she would be working as well.

That wasn’t all. As a spiritualist, to communicate with the ancestors, they used special items like bones. Mammy Adonai gave her a special set of bones, never used, and it ca with a leather bag. Made from the fur of a fox.

Briar received a lot of gifts from Mammy Adonai, which she was grateful for. At the sa ti, it showed her just how much well prepared the other was for this very mont.

When the gifting mont ended, the real celebrations started.

Briar changed her sitting posture and watched as the villagers danced around the bonfire while the food continued to be prepared.

There was a lot of singing and dancing. It looked very festive, and Briar had never experienced sothing so exhilarating like that in her life.

She was very happy to experience this at least once in her life. It was quite fulfilling.

The celebrations lasted for hours. And during that ti, people ate to their heart’s content.

As the star of the celebration, Briar never tires of eating at and traditional beer which was specifically brewed for that occasion.

When the celebrations were still ongoing, Benjamin ca to her side and sat with her on the reed mat.

"Briar, are you feeling well?" he couldn’t help but ask concernedly.

Briar flashed a smile at her brother and nodded her head cheerfully. "I have never been better, brother!"

Benjamin’s eyes softened when he heard that and smiled at her. "That’s good. That’s good!"

The pair of siblings chatted as they ate their food and the topics basically revolved around Briar’s wellbeing.

Benjamin wasn’t able to see Briar in the three days she was in seclusion. The only ti he could talk to her after so long was that mont. So, he was quite eager.

Around midnight, the celebrations finally ca to an end, and the villagers returned to their respective houses with leftover food.

Everyone was in a joyful mood and kept on praising Mammy Adonai for being so generous.

Others who loved gossiping couldn’t help but wonder why Briar’s other family mbers weren’t there.

After all, who didn’t like a bit of drama in their lives?
