[Hehe, that only works in these cities, but not our villagers. There are many cases of such things happening, but no family would report it. Villagers are united, and they wouldn’t let such matters tarnish the village’s reputation.
Since these maidens would be married either way in the future, it wouldn’t be a big deal!]
’Huh! Not a big deal!’ Logan was furious as he listened to that pompous and pretentious voice speaking.
How could they take the females’ lives so casually like that? Didn’t they matter?
Must they be forced into marriages that they abhorred? Live with their rapists and have a family with them just because if the matter gets reported, they would be the ones to suffer?
Although he knew that Moses wasn’t lying but speaking the truth, he couldn’t help but fear that Briar must have been subjected to sothing almost like that. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have co to his family when she was fifteen.
[Anyway, getting back to the story, I have other things to do .... My friend was interested in Briar and from what he said, he should be making progress but then after he said that, I never saw him again.]
[Huh! What does that an?] Raine’s puzzled voice rang and Logan was also curious about where that was going.
[This friend of mine was promiscuous as he was. So, one day, I kind of followed him wanting to know how he was going to deal with Briar and then I saw them.]
[You saw them? Are you saying that those two were seeing each other?]
[You cannot exactly call it that after all, my friend, no one would see him willingly. Anyway, I saw him pestering Briar and at that ti, she was so young and looked furious. I was interested in what he wanted to do, but then I saw him pulling her into the forest.
Upon seeing that, I didn’t dare follow them. I knew what he was going to do. I didn’t dare sabotage a brother. All I had to do was wait for him to bring the good news. But if I had known that it would be the last ti I would see him, I would have followed him!] Suddenly Moses’ voice sounded firm, and Logan could hear the sincerity and concern in his voice as he said that.
[Are you saying that your friend disappeared after taking Briar into the forest?]
[Um. I don’t know what happened exactly, but that wench was the only one I could see after I returned from where I ca from. Everyone thought that he left and gone sowhere, but his clothes and belongings were all at ho. However, these villagers’ minds didn’t work well. It didn’t make sense and since he was a hooligan, they just assud he ran away. But I don’t think so.]
[So, you think that Briar did sothing to him?]
[Um, she should have. You know she was very close to that evil woman, the spiritualist. She might have gotten rid of him since he was being a nuisance.]
[And that makes you think that he is truly gone?]
[Um, he should be dead and if you find that wench, and torture her seriously, she might reveal what she did back then!]
Listening to that point, Logan’s head was throbbing, and he felt like his head was about to split up.
Summarizing the situation, he just heard, Moses’s friend took a liking to Briar and wanted her. The only way to do so was to force himself on her, make her pregnant, and bring her ho. Before he could do so, however, he vanished.
If that was indeed the case, it ant that Briar should have done sothing to get rid of the man who wanted to force himself on her, which would make sense. After all, it wasn’t like one would let an abuser do everything willingly, without a fight.
But then, sothing else might have happened to that hooligan. What if he still left the village in a hurry without taking anything? Or perhaps t a wild animal and got eaten?
Why did they have to assu that Briar must have killed that hooligan and didn’t think about other options?
And why not report that matter to the authorities?
[Why didn’t you report the matter to the authorities?]
[Hoho, what can I do to find evidence to report the matter? Anyway, I agreed in the beginning that I wouldn’t participate in anything that deals with the authorities. I might tell the man who is interested in Briar about her wonderful deeds so that he might be cautious.]
[Don’t worry, I already promised. I won’t say your na. I just need you to et with him and explain a few things so that he will understand.]
[No problem. I can do that.]
[So, you haven’t heard about your friend until now?]
[Unfortunately, no .... He is gone, that man!] and the recording stopped after the man said that.
Logan took a deep breath as he closed his eyes, digesting the ss he had just heard.
This ti, he didn’t know how to defend Briar at all, despite having a belief that she wouldn’t commit such a cri.
Why bother killing that man when she could receive help from Mammy Adonai?
But as a human being, he understood that when a person gets cornered, he could do anything.
Facing an unexpected harasser, to defend her chastity, Briar would commit murder, but that didn’t seem to be the kind of person he knew.
She wasn’t that ruthless to take a life.
Despite knowing Selena’s deeds, she still kept the secret and did her best to maintain a marriage, which would have caused a lot of damages if broken.
To save a child, she kept the secret of the affair and raised the child with so much love, despite Tiana being not his.
In order to prove her innocence when she was attacked by Alice, she tried ending her life, which was the best thod in proving innocence even from ancient tis.
Of course, it was a crazy way of doing so. After all, once dead, the life could no longer be lived again.
