Chapter fourteen

A village of giant had taken residence inside her brain, Lin wei concluded. They were pounding her brain into a mushy useless flesh. She groaned and squinted against the sunlight filtering in from the slightly open curtain.

She tried to peel her heavy eyelid open, it was proving to be a very hard task. She grabbed her head with both hands, her hair standing on end like a bird nest. The dinging of her alarm ca later, and she let out a frustrated moaned of distress.

What did she do yesterday? She must have drunken a whole gallon of alcohol or was it caffeine? It had to be one of the the two.

She got up with so much difficulty and made a quick dash into the bathroom. After letting out what could be classify as the most longest pee in the history of pees, she sighed in satisfaction.

She grabbed her toothbrush and glanced at her reflection in the mirror.

Tear stained mascara was all over her face, hair sticking out all over her head and her coffee stained shirt. So hazy mories flicked across her brain and she concentrated hard.

Suddenly, it all ca running down and she gasped.

She had made the best bad decision as she could, being on a caffeine high after a gallon of coffee. She rembered the wavering of her resolve as she clicked on the application button and she threw her phone under the pillow.

Toothbrush still hanging from her mouth, she rushed into the bedroom. She grabbed her phone from under the pillow and closed her eyes. Hoping yesterday was nothing but one of those nightmares that feels so real.

Her hopes was dashed as she squinted and opened one eyes to glance across the screen of her phone. Her hand flew to cover her mouth and she let out a scream. There it was.

Staring right back at her. The evidence of her of her bad decision.

Her application had been approved and she was to report to the place of the interview tommorow.

She let out a nervous giggle as she let her fingers traced the words again and again. Was she running mad? She must definitely running mad if she was considering going.

Everything seed like one of those soap operas that boiled down to one horrible unforgettable experience. Was this even real?

Fear, though a bit late, considering she was already invested in this, gripped her and she shuddered.

The only thing that was sure to slap her back into reality was a phone call to Bai Yue. It was the only thing she could do to save herself from running mad.

She was really considering going for the interview!

Bai Yue picked up on the second ring. Her voice was crisp and alert, unlike the drowsy sleepy voice of yesterday.

At least one of them was feeling good. It was okay.

"What's good Weiwei?" Bai Yue's voice ca filtering through.

"Nothing...that's what. Nothing's good," Lin wei closed her eyes as she pressed the phone into her cheek. The absurdity of her situation catching up with her.

"Let guess, you did it?!" Bai Yue demanded with a high pitched voice that was so unlike of her.

Lin wei chuckles nervously. She closed her hand around her mouth. It was either that or cry.

"I did it! The worst part is that I wasn't even aware!! Like how could I? I must be mad right? Right? And the worstest thing is that__" her nervous rant was cut short with a snort from the other end of the call.

"The worstest part is that I'm even considering it.." she heard a light gasp on the other end and was relieved that she wasn't the only one who think she was going crazy.

The other line was unnaturally quiet for a long ti, as Lin wei's gaze road around her pigsty room. She kept tapping her fingers against her thigh and pinching herself. Her skin had turn an ugly shade of green when Bai Yue finally spoke up.

"You know what I'm thinking?" Bai Yue replied calmly. Her voice was unusually firm and thoughtful.

Perhaps Lin wei wasn't only the mad one..

Lin wei kept quiet, holding her breath and waiting for whatever her friend had today about this.

"I think you should do it," she dropped the bomb with a soft voice.

Lin wei's eyes bulged out of their socket and she sucked in a breath.

"I'm serious Weiwei. Think about it. Who on Earth who require a mother for his sons of not so rich catch? What else could co out of it? You could go to the interview under a new na and stuff and nothing would happen! I'm half sure you wouldn't even be picked," she said with a laugh.

Lin wei nodded her head slowly. It was all starting to make one strange sense. She could go into the interview with a new na and identity. The announcent hinted a minimum amount of six hundred thousand dollars and other incentives if "work ets the required standard".

"I'll do it. Let's et at the cafe downtown. After you're back from your academy," Lin wei replied thoughtfully. Her situation requires a miracle with a dash of madness and a touch of uncertainty.

This...this could an a lot of things. An opportunity to pay for her mother's surgery. To move out of this godforsaken room into sowhere bigger. Sowhere better.

Soft ember of hope begin to flare in her sternum and she closed her palm against her beating heart. Still, the irony wasn't lost on her.

How could soone think of that? It was more or less treating sothing so significant, like a business matter? The role of a mother couldn't be played by a virtual stranger that was still going to leave the said children in the span of a year or less. Her heart ache for those children.

But then, the world was full of different situations that was almost unreal and sotis bother on the verge of fiction. This one was one of them.

She stood up with determination running inside her vein. If this ans her mother's surgery and healthy life, she was ready to risk it all.

Or so she thought.
