Chapter 139: 139. Side Chapter 3: Alan’s absence.
The week went by quicker than Alan would have wanted it to.
He didn’t an to, but sohow, he got to find out from Mary that the young Janey just got admitted into the university and will be going away by May.
"Oh, the kids in church sure will miss her." Mary had said.
Alan now even knew what she’d be studying in the university... Fine arts.
For so reason, he thought the course she chose was sothing actually suited her perfectly even though he was yet to actually know her. He just thought she would look good as an artist, with a paint brush in her hand, an apron stained with different colors of paint and her cheeks filled with colors.
Or a curator, explaining to guests in a gallery about paintings, with a big bright welcoming smile on her face.
Fine art... it suited her all too well.
Before Alan knew it, in the space of one week, without even trying to know, he had sohow gathered a lot of information on the girl nad Janey.
From Champagne, to Mary, down to the twins... It was suddenly as though every ti he was in that house all they talked about was Janey whom they never previously talked about.
It was weird.
But that was it. His curiosity had been fed. He didn’t want to know more.
Or rather... He wasn’t going to try to know more.
And even though her words, "See you next week," replayed in his head, he wasn’t going to attend that church ever again.
...
{The next Sunday}
"Good morning Champagne!" Janey waved as soon as Champagne walked into the children’s church.
"Well, a good morning to you too, Janey. You’re looking quite beautiful this Sunday." Champagne remarked as she led her children in.
Her remark causes an instant flush on the young lady’s face.
"Good morning Janey." The twins say together as they release their hands from their mother’s hold and walk towards the empty seats.
"Well, thank you Champagne. Good morning kids." She waves at the twins, quickly turning her flushed face away from Champagne whose eyes are still looking up and down the young woman.
"Seems like you’re finally preparing to knockout all the boys in college." Champagne chuckles as she finally sits herself down on her seat but with her eyes still on Janey.
"Champagne! My gosh No," Janey denied and flushed even more. "I just picked up the first thing I saw in my closet."
That was a big lie and she was begging Gid in her heart to forgive her for lying in church.
"Really? Cause it seems to
like you took your ti."
That wasn’t a lie.
Janey who could not wait to see the handso man again had been thinking of the best dress to wear since the previous Sunday. And she finally chose one last night, pressed it again even though it had already been pressed and hung it up in front of her mirror.
Only for her to wake up this morning, put it on and realize it wasn’t giving what she wanted it to give.
It was suddenly looking plain.
And so, she had just an hour to figure out sothing new to wear. She went over her clothes that she’d been going over for the past week and at the end of her search she decided to go with a long black chiffon dress that stopped at her ankle. It had a long sleeve with sky blue frills at the tip of each sleeve.
It was a beautiful dress and the blue frills reminded her of his blue eyes, so she had gone with that dress. But no one had to know all this detail.
"You’re even wearing lip gloss when you don’t even like lip gloss." Champagne adds and for the first ti Janey disliked the fact that Champagne knew these facts about her.
Indeed she didn’t like lip gloss. She didn’t like thee sticky feeling in her lips. In fact she didn’t like anything on her lips, but lip gloss she hated most.
However... It has been said that lip gloss gives the lips a more alluring look as it shines, so even though she hated the feeling on her lips, she went to her mother’s makeup bag, took out a pink lip gloss and applied it.
All because she wanted to look presentable. And maybe it was because she had a reason for applying it, she really wasn’t feeling it on her lips.
"Oh please Champagne stop teasing ." She blushed and moved to sit next to Champagne.
"Alright,"Champagne shrugs, "I’ll stop."
Now she wanted to ask the big question but she wasn’t certain on how to ask. She did not want champagne teasing her any further so she was thinking of the right way to ask about him, "Besides, y_you look more stunning today too." She started biting down on her lips only to release it quickly as soon as she becos conscious of her lips gloss.
"Like you ca with that handso husband of yours." Janey says with a laugh.
"Actually," Champagne says and tucks so hair behind her ear shyly. "you’re not wrong. I ca with Duke today. I didn’t think he would co but this morning when I woke up, he was already awake and preparing to co with . I’m so happy!"
Janet’s insides tickled to know that Champagne’s handso husband ca to church because that would an he brought his brother with him, right?
"Well, I_ I sure hope he brought his brother too..." She blurts out only to realize those words sounded a bit weird, "His brother and the old man... to_to Jesus, I an. You know, I don’t think it’s nice to leave family at ho so all I’m trying to say is it would be nice if he brought the rest of his family here too, so—uhm... Yeah." She was talking rubbish and she knew it.
Oh God!
"Gio did co with us... that’s the person you’re referring to as an old man and as for his brother Alan, well I think he has a church where he worships already. He just ca here last week because of Duke. He didn’t co with us today."
As those words left Champagne’s mouth, the lips gloss on Janet’s lips almost instantly began to feel heavy and uncomfortable.
The long sleeve if the dress was becoming itchy and she was just not comfortable.
He wasn’t coming.
He didn’t co.
She had prayed that he would, she had sent a little prayer to God just this morning again reminding him to bring the handso Alan to her today again.
But he didn’t co.
She was disappointed.
More importantly, she was embarrassed... To think she had spent days just trying to pick out a dress.
"It’s a sha really, because the twins actually wanted him to co today." Champagne says.
" too." The words left Jane’s mouth.
"What?" Champagne asks.
"What?" Janey’s eyes widened.
"I thought you said sothing."
"What? ? I didn’t say anything... Oh Maggie is here!" She exclaims and runs up to the child while wiping the lips gloss from her lips with the back of her hand.
He didn’t co.
...
While Champagne was busy teaching the children the topic of the day, Janey just sat down fiddling with the crayons and pencils on the table in front of her.
Her head wasn’t fully with them. Ti and ti again, she would sigh without even realizing she was sighing.
She felt languid.
"Miss Janey," A little boy who’s as tall as Shelly walks up to her.
Lazily, she lifts her eyes from the table in front of her and stares at him, "Yes, David?"
"I wanna dwink water." He says and another sigh leaves her lips.
"You wanna drink water?" She asks and he nods.
"Alright, hand
your water bottle, let
open it for you." She says but the boy shakes his head.
He spreads his hands out dramatically and says, "There’s no more water in it."
"Oh, okay." Janey says. "Wait here, let
just get you water from the dispenser." She moves to rise from her sit but once again the boy shakes his head in another no.
"My mummy says I should not dwink any water from anywhere but my bottle. She says I should dwink only the water she gave ."
The child says and normally, things like that wouldn’t piss her off because it was normal amongst most parents for them to request that their children aren’t given any strange thing to eat or drink. So tis because of allergic reactions and other tis, the parents don’t just want their children eating or drinking free stuff.
So she was used to it, but she was just in a foul mood today so she rolls her eyes and asks, "Well, what do we do now? Your bottle is empty and you want water."
"My mummy has another bottle with her." The boy innocently says.
"What does that an?" She asks.
"Can you help
go get it? Pwease, petty Pwease?" Oh he was cute and she couldn’t deny it!
"Urgh! Stop doing that, you know you’re so cute! Wait here, I’ll go get it for you."
"Thank you Miss Janey."
