Ling Chuxia didn’t speak, her red lips slightly pursed, the look on her face sowhat tense, and as her gaze on Shi Che beca increasingly serious, after what seed to be an eternity, the hands she had cupping Shi Che’s cheeks slid down, and then she wrapped her arms around his waist with force, her cheeks buried in his chest as she hugged him tightly. Her voice was muffled, tinged with a trace of fear, "Shi Che, you won’t leave alone again, will you?"
Shi Che himself had been surprised by Ling Chuxia’s sudden movent, but upon hearing her voice, a pang of heartache resurfaced in his heart, yet more than that was a feeling of relief.
A warm hue slowly suffused his brow, as his long arm encircled Ling Chuxia’s slender waist, one hand resting on the back of her head, sliding down her soft hair, soothing her.
He chuckled softly, his voice deep and yet full of earnest, "No, I’ll never leave again, never."
In the future, even if he lost himself, he couldn’t possibly lose Ling Chuxia.
Losing her once was enough to cause him excruciating pain, a fate worse than death; how could he afford to lose her a second ti?
Although Shi Che’s words were so certain, Ling Chuxia still felt sowhat apprehensive. She didn’t raise her head, still entrenched against Shi Che’s chest, her voice was just as muffled, "Really? You really won’t suddenly get angry and walk away again? Just... just like before..."
When she uttered the last few words, Ling Chuxia’s voice was even lower, so quiet it seed like a whisper, yet Shi Che still heard it.
He closed his eyes lightly, sighing softly.
Sure enough... he hadn’t guessed wrong; deep down, Ling Chuxia harbored many uncertainties about him, many fears, many insecurities, which is why, when she found out she couldn’t bear children, she didn’t dare to tell him the truth. Her first thought was fear that he wouldn’t want her.
He didn’t imdiately answer Ling Chuxia, instead gently pulling her slightly away from his embrace. He lowered his eyes, his dark pupils falling on Ling Chuxia’s slightly anxious face, his thin lips slowly parting, "Chuxia, do you or do you not want to know why I was angry then?"
This was sothing Ling Chuxia did not know, could never guess, and always feared asking. She used to fear asking for it might stir Shi Che’s anger. Now she feared to ask... for it might disrupt the hard-earned affection between them.
But now... it was Shi Che who brought it up first.
Ling Chuxia sneaked a glance at Shi Che, she really wanted to know why, but what if his anger flared up suddenly again?
At that thought, Ling Chuxia’s eyes hardened, and she shook her head vehently, "I don’t want to know."
Hearing these words, Shi Che wasn’t too taken aback, his eyebrows lifting slightly, "Are you sure?"
Ling Chuxia’s brows drew tightly together; in fact... she really still wanted to know. If she knew the reason, she would understand what she’d done wrong in those three years that made him detest her so much. That way, in the future, she wouldn’t always feel so empty...
Ling Chuxia couldn’t help feeling conflicted, her fingers unconsciously gripping Shi Che’s clothes tighter, a turbulent light in her eyes. She thought and thought, her teeth biting down on her lower lip as if to brace herself, "I, I want to know..."
But no sooner had the words left her mouth, Ling Chuxia hurriedly added, "However, you have to promise first, you absolutely cannot get angry without reason again, and you cannot abandon here alone."
