Chapter 990: 308. Pursuing Shadows

Noland Lee and the Crawling Fear stared each other down, eye to eye.

That scene lasted for less than 5 seconds before being interrupted by a noise coming from underfoot.

“Sssss sss…crack crack crack…”

This noise was far more chaotic than what he had heard before.

Clearly, a considerable number of Shadow Creatures were making their way towards Noland Lee’s position from underground.

The five Crawling Fears in front of him were purely trying to buy ti for reinforcents to arrive. They weren’t truly wary of the “Silent Shield” on Noland Lee.

...

Noland Lee glanced around using his peripheral vision.

He was in an underground hollow that was no more than two hundred square ters in size.

On the walls were man-made cave entrances, about three in number, each leading in different directions.

In a corner, there were so earthy brown stones with bite marks piled up.

These stones were none other than Barren Stones.

Next to them were large footprints.

Considering the height and width of the entrances, the half-eaten Barren Stones, and the outline of the footprints, the area used to be Mole Man territory.

Now, with the Mole n gone, replaced by Shadow Creatures, the fate of those Mole n was not hard to guess.

Noland Lee looked toward the side entrance without revealing his thoughts and nodded inwardly, having so guesses about the location of the Shadow Magic Array.

As he reached his conclusion, ten Crawling Fears leaped out from the ground below, appearing before him with monstrous posture.

Their arrival signaled the start of the battle.

The five leading Crawling Fears pounced towards Noland Lee like hungry wolves.

Before their claws could reach him, their long shadow tongues arrived first.

Five stinking black tongues shot out like bullets from the wide mouths of the Crawling Fears, aid at Noland Lee’s heart, head, and ankles.

The other ten Crawling Fears, however, did not pounce at Noland Lee; instead, they shook the heads on their backs violently, emitting noisy sound waves.

The noise suddenly increased in volu, as if a loudspeaker had been placed right next to Noland Lee’s ears.

At the sa ti, a large amount of Shadow Silk erged from the bodies of the Crawling Fears.

More dense than a spider web, the Shadow Silk instantly wove a pitch-black cocoon around Noland Lee that was impervious to all.

In that instant, Noland Lee’s mind was flooded with countless pieces of System Text.

[Warning!]

[You are under attack by “Crawling Fear”!]

[“Shadow Lash” has hit your vital body parts, but the damage has been blocked by “Silent Shield”!]

[“Shadow ntal Impact” has hit your spirit, but the damage has been blocked by “ntal Shield”!]

[“Shadow Weave” has applied a “binding effect” on you, decreasing your mobility!]

Level 50 Crawling Fears, that’s all they amount to, huh?

They can’t even penetrate my shield.

Noland Lee squinted at the Crawling Fear biting into his arm.

These repulsive Shadow Creatures possessed multiple mouths, filled with teeth like short daggers.

The mont one bit into his arm, the Crawling Fear began to spray shadow energy from their teeth.

That sticky, icy, foul-slling dense shadow energy flowed down Noland Lee’s bony arm, reacting violently with the shield on his body.

The five Crawling Fears wildly splashed shadow energy, and in just three seconds, during the biting process, they turned Noland Lee’s entire body black.

The System sent wave after wave of warnings, all indicating that Noland Lee was under attack, but the damage was completely blocked by the “Silent Shield”.

The shadow energy resistance of the “Silent Shield” reached an astounding 99%.

At that mont, this advantage of resistance was clear for all to see, becoming the foundation of Noland Lee’s confidence as he faced off against 15 Crawling Fears alone.

Of course, the way Noland Lee allowed himself to be hit was deliberate.

It was truly the first ti he had been attacked by Shadow Creatures.

He was eager to test the actual damage a Level 50 Shadow Creature could inflict so that he could be fully prepared.

Noland Lee opened his Personal Panel:

[Silent Voice ditation] Level 100

[Spirit] 100 points

[Magic Shield] Level 100, shield strength 200 points

[Energy Value] 1,300,000,647(100 547)

100 points in “Spirit” ans that the “Magic Shield” can automatically recycle and cast itself 100 tis in 1 second.

The enemy must produce 20,000 points of effective damage in 1 second to penetrate Noland Lee’s shield.

Looking at the current state of the battle:

With Noland Lee’s shadow energy resistance at 99%, a single Level 50 Crawling Fear’s peak damage is about 700 points of shadow energy per second.

With a total of 15 Crawling Fears in front of him, their combined damage per second is 10,500 points, which is far from enough to break Noland Lee’s shield.

Standing there, letting them strike, the opposition can’t do anything to Noland Lee.

But if another 15 Crawling Fears were to join, the situation would beco different.

With that thought, Noland Lee stopped wasting ti collecting combat data.

He channeled the Thunder and Lightning Energy from his Magic Lungs into the Magic Orb in his left hand.

The Magic Orb, activated by the Thunder and Lightning Energy, emitted a dazzling blue glow.

“Crackle!”

In an instant, the “Thunderbolt Nova” was ford!

The spherical thunderstorm expanded from Noland Lee as its center, spreading to every corner of the underground space.

The fierce Electric Snakes pierced through the bodies of the Crawling Fears, causing a series of filthy explosions.

The thick Shadow aura mingled with the rampant Thunderstorm Energy, whipping wildly through the cave.

All this happened in the span of a single second.

When the thunderstorm subsided and the light dimd,

The Crawling Fears that had been baring their teeth around Noland Lee a mont ago had all turned into dark Shadow Fragnts, becoming black fus that seeped into the ground.
