Because it was Gu Moqian’s birthday, Xi Nanfeng first went to Ye Cheng’s house to invite him over.

After knocking on the door, Ye Cheng quickly opened it. The two exchanged a few brief pleasantries at the door. Xi Nanfeng intended to go inside to sit down for a drink, but Ye Cheng blocked him firmly and unceremoniously rejected his request.

"Go wait in the car. I’ll pack up and co down shortly," Ye Cheng said expressionlessly before slamming the door shut with a bang.

Xi Nanfeng stared at the still-trembling door, utterly dumbfounded.

What’s with Old Ye suddenly being so stingy? Can’t even let in for a glass of water!

Feeling indignant, he stood there stewing in resentnt for a good while before finally heading downstairs.

Who knows what Ye Cheng was dawdling for—Xi Nanfeng leaned against the car door and waited a full half hour before finally seeing Ye Cheng walk over.

Before getting into the car, he suddenly glanced up at Ye Cheng’s sixteenth-floor apartnt.

What the hell! He already left, but the lights are still on?

Pairing that with Ye Cheng’s strange behavior tonight, Xi Nanfeng was almost certain there was soone in that apartnt, and very likely a woman!

No matter how he tried to probe subtly, Ye Cheng remained completely unresponsive, giving him only cold, unreadable looks. Left with no choice, Xi Nanfeng had to drop the matter.

The text ssage from earlier only strengthened his suspicions. Realizing Ye Cheng was too stubborn to admit anything, Xi Nanfeng suddenly changed tactics. He pulled out his phone and sent a ssage to a well-connected paparazzo he knew, Zhuo Da.

After putting away his phone, Xi Nanfeng grinned mischievously. When he noticed Ye Cheng shooting him a sideways glance, he imdiately played it cool, crossing one leg over the other and casually looking around from his spot on the sofa.

When Ji Wei ca out of the kitchen, this was the scene she saw.

Her eyes drifted toward Gu Moqian, and she was startled to find him smoking!

The man’s brows were slightly furrowed, his expression cloudy. Smoke curled around his pale, slender fingers, and his deep, dark eyes resembled an unfathomable, nightti sea.

Ji Wei had never seen Gu Moqian smoke before, and for so reason, the sight pricked her heart with a trace of pain.

"The food’s all ward up. You all eat first—I have to go out for a bit," Ji Wei suddenly said. With that, she headed toward the door.

All three n turned to look at her.

Xi Nanfeng was the first to react. He nudged Gu Moqian with his elbow. "It’s already dark out—she’s going out alone, and you’re okay with that?"

A flicker of emotion flashed through Gu Moqian’s eyes. After taking a long drag from his cigarette, he stubbed it out and quickly followed her outside.

Ji Wei had just taken the car keys from Old Xu when she saw Gu Moqian striding toward her. Her previously downcast eyes lit up with a hint of joy. "Moqian, why did you co out?"

"Where are you going?" the man demanded coldly.

"I... I’m going to buy you a gift," Ji Wei said, her wide, clear eyes looking at him nervously, lacking confidence.

"Go back. It’s unnecessary," Gu Moqian ordered sternly, his expression grave.

Gu Moqian had always treated her with warmth and care, and she had nearly forgotten what he looked like when he was angry. This was the first ti he had spoken to her in such a tone, and Ji Wei felt a pang in her heart.

For reasons she didn’t quite understand, a stubborn streak took hold of her. Slowly, with a tinge of stiffness, she said, "It’s not far. I’ll be back in half an hour."

With that, she got into the car anyway.

Old Xu stood by the car, watching as Ji Wei started the engine. He hesitantly asked, "Mr. Gu, do you want to take another car and follow her—"

Before he could finish speaking, Gu Moqian cut him off decisively. "No need."

He turned away coldly.

Ji Wei placed her hands on the steering wheel and glanced toward the direction of the living room.

The man’s tall figure moved inside against the light. She wasn’t sure if she was imagining it, but his retreating silhouette seed tinged with a hint of loneliness.

Her eyes stung with sudden emotion, and she quickly turned her head, forcing herself to focus on driving.

As the car rged onto the main road, her phone rang.

Glancing at the caller ID, she answered without hesitation. A mont later, Xia Duoduo’s frantic and flustered voice ca through the receiver: "Weiwei, hurry up and get here! I accidentally set the Great Demon King’s curtains on fire!"
