When Ruby Sullivan returned to her best friend’s house, Honey was already curled up on the sofa watching TV.
She closed her eyes tightly outside the door, recalling what Ethan Sterling had said during the day, and couldn’t help but snicker.
What a story of mutual affection and tender feelings, but why didn’t she find it touching at all?
Opening her eyes, she collected her emotions and walked in.
Honey spotted her imdiately and jumped down cheerfully, "Mom—"
Halfway through her leap, she seed to rember sothing and stopped in her tracks. Ruby Sullivan imdiately sensed that she knew sothing and explained, "Honey, Mom is fine."
She had called Sasha Shaw from the hospital, entrusting her to pick up Honey.
The thought had crossed her mind that Honey might have found out about her injury.
Honey’s delicate face showed so concern as she held Ruby’s hand and sat on the sofa, her eyes scanning Ruby’s ankle, "Mom, is your foot really okay?"
"Don’t worry, sweetheart," Ruby Sullivan reached out to tap her little nose, "it’s just a minor injury."
Although Honey was still a bit worried, looking at her mother’s calm deanor, she figured it wasn’t a big deal, so she boldly placed her little hands on Ruby’s legs, "Mom, you’re too tired today. Let massage your legs."
Having carried her for ten months, how could Ruby Sullivan not understand what little mischievous idea this considerate girl was up to? She purposely put on a stern face and looked at Honey, "Honey, did you cause trouble at kindergarten today?"
Honey’s expression changed, and she hastily waved her hands, "No, Mom, I just... I just..." her voice trailed off awkwardly.
Ruby Sullivan looked at her, amused, and reached out to ruffle her hair, "Go on, Mom won’t bla you." Honey seed a bit torn, twisting her fingers together, before finally mumbling, "Today at kindergarten, I made a new friend! So I originally wanted Mom to help make an extra al to bring for him, but since Mom is injured, I can’t bear to ask Mom to cook anymore."
"Did you make a friend so quickly, Honey?"
Honey nodded sowhat shyly, her fair ears tinged a light red, bashfully saying, "His na is Seth Sterling, and he’s super super handso."
Ruby glanced at her daughter, speechless. Was having a thing for handso guys a hidden gene of the Sullivan family?
"Honey," Ruby Sullivan ruffled her hair, "you’re a big girl now. Mom will give you allowance money in the future, but until Mom’s injury heals, you’ll probably have to eat at the kindergarten. Once Mom is better, I’ll bring lunch for you and your friends, okay?"
Although Honey felt a bit disappointed, she understood. She patted Ruby’s hand, speaking in her childish voice, "Yeah! Mom needs to get better!"
It was just a bit of a pity that Brother Sterling wouldn’t get to eat Mom’s delicious cooking.
...
The next day, at the Sterling Family’s ho.
"Young master, here’s the lunch prepared for today, make sure you don’t forget to take it."
Mama Bennett was hired by Ethan Sterling as a cooking nanny. She used to work for the Sullivan Family, and after Seth was born, she was one of the twenty or so nannies who were replaced because they didn’t suit his palate. It was by chance that Ethan Sterling t Mama Bennett.
Because of her cooking, she had managed to remain in the Sterling Family for five years, despite her previous employnt with the Sullivan Family.
"It’s alright, Mama Bennett, I’m having lunch at kindergarten today, so no need to bring it."
On the surface, Seth Sterling was calm, but his palms were sweating with nerves. Nothing ever got past Ethan Sterling.
Sure enough, as soon as he spoke, Ethan Sterling followed up.
"You never eat at kindergarten," Ethan Sterling placed the last bite of steak in his mouth, poised as noble and elegant as an aristocrat, "Seth, what’s your reason?"
