"It’s good to see a lively bunch appear for the trials this ti around," The Amazonian woman, i Ling, announced. "Unlike the usual moppy, good-for-nothing brats."
While she judged them, Adrian wasted no ti and used [Analysis] on her, and he was surprised. Unlike most people present there, she was no fluke. She was an assassin by profession, and her stats didn’t reflect her physical self.
’Despite all those muscles, her strength is lacking compared to her 100 points in agility. Interesting...’
"Since the tests are about to begin, I’ll be taking my leave," Jas inford the group, shaking Adrian’s hand. "But I’ll be in the building. Feel free to call if you need anything."
"Sure," Adrian replied, and the agent left without another word. "I feel bad for him being overworked... but oh well, that’s a governnt job for you."
By then, Adrian and the rest of the crew had been given their registration numbers as well. Adrian’s was 117, while the rest had numbers ranging from 108 to 111.
"Seems like I’m the last person to get tested," Adrian shrugged, pocketing the token he had been given.
"Before anyone asks, these numbers are assigned randomly and will determine the order of the trials and the opponents each participant would face." i Ling continued and snapped her fingers.
On cue, several people dressed in suits rushed to the stage with strange-looking devices in hand. A few more arrived, and i Ling carried on with her explanation.
"This beauty here is called Manacule Assessnt Machine, or MAM for short. When your number is called, put your hands on the golden orb and pour your mana into it. Sound simple enough, right? So don’t dare fuck it up!"
i kept yelling and didn’t stop until she was done saying her piece.
"The machine will rate your potential. If you’re D-rank or higher, you’ll proceed with the test. If not, go to reception to get your ranker card and other accessories. Is that clear?"
With that, i stepped off the stage, but not without shooting glares at random people, including Seraphina.
"Ooh, I like that one," Seraphina smiled, cracking her knuckles. "Can’t wait to make her my bitch~"
"...we’re here for the test. Nothing else," Adrian inford her, weirded out by Seraphina’s hidden side.
"Of course, don’t worry. A test and a taste go hand in hand."
***
People were called to the stage one after another to be tested. But the more people were tested, the more Adrian felt Jas was correct. Most of the people there were C-rank or below in terms of potential.
Out of the 107 people who were tested, only 3 were B-rank, 21 were ranked C, and 23 were ranked D. The remaining 60 comprised E and F rankers who left the auditorium huffing and puffing.
At the sa ti, they were also inford that the test was an assessnt of their latent prowess. Subsequent evaluations would determine their proper ranks.
In simple words, they were telling them that just because soone has the potential to be an A-ranker doesn’t an they’ll ever beco one. The MAM only showed that the person has the potential to beco an A-ranker in future.
Adrian knew this fact because even in Nexaria, they couldn’t figure out soone’s exact rank using their advanced technology. That’s why they gave up on the idea and just used levels to classify people.
The thod had its flaws, but it was better than judging soone based on their potential rank.
While he was lost in his thoughts, it was Alia’s turn next. The group noticed so people laughing and rolling their eyes when she approached the machine, probably because of her disability.
Even the DRA mbers seed to think she was wasting her ti because she only had one hand and hence couldn’t possibly be soone worthy of becoming a hunter.
Sophia was enraged by their comnts, but Adrian told her to calm down. "Alia is capable enough to make them eat their words."
Sophia relented and stepped back, allowing the test to go as planned. Alia took a deep breath and placed her hand on the device. Everyone who expected another E or F ranker had their mouth wide in shock when Alia beca the first A-ranker in the room.
"Is that...?"
"How...?"
Without saying a word, Alia nodded and walked back to the group as the crowd parted, still in shock. However, things were about to get a lot more shocking.
Sophia was next, and as they expected, she also ranked A. But the actual shock ca when Seraphina and A’Mila stepped up to take the test.
As soon as they placed their hands on the machines, they went haywire, and the damn ter broke.
The DRA agents quickly swapped out the old machines for new ones, figuring the old ones were busted after continuous tests, but it didn’t make a difference.
And just like that, Two S-rankers joined the rankings, increasing the number of S-ranked hunters in the USA from three to five. Everyone lost their damn minds both inside the auditorium and outside.
It hadn’t even been a minute, but the news had already reached the online realm, causing scouters from the most prominent guilds to rush to the DRA headquarters and poach them away from the DRA.
Even Jas hurriedly called them to get the confirmation and said he was rushing back there and not to leave the room for their safety. Adrian shrugged and handed over the phone to Sophia.
People were so preoccupied that they didn’t even notice the rest of the gradings, and soon, it was Adrian’s turn. People were too occupied with Seraphina and A’Mila to notice him walk up the stage.
It wasn’t until they heard a loud explosion from the stage that they turned their attention back to the stage. Forget about the malfunctioning machine, Adrian’s touch made the damn thing explode.
Like before, the agents brought another machine. But it was also blown into smithereens.
"Adrian Fenrir," A staff mber announced the results after deliberating with the higher-ups. "B-Beyond S-Grade!"
Adrian smiled once the result was announced and thought, "Try ssing with now, my dear brother."
