Chapter 106: School Date

N-No, there’s no way he’s opening up to me. ’I don’t want to learn more about him.’ I thought as I just nodded.

"Is that so."

As if I’m not curious as to why he doesn’t want to become the heir. He’s good at killing people— I didn’t mean that in a bad way but... I think he does everything well.

"Let’s go," I said as I didn’t want him to tell more things about himself.

We walked through the hallway without speaking to each other. No, I’m not responding to his words. Night’s been talking, even though he’s not usually this talkative.

’I wonder what’s making him do this. When grandpa Kenta told him to treat me gently, he didn’t follow his orders. Well, at least that’s only when grandpa Kenta’s not around.’

"Do you want to try those?" I looked at where he was pointing his finger and quickly grimaced after seeing what it was. "Games for couples." He even read the name of the booth. Are there that many couples in our school for them to create such a booth?

"Why would we—" I suddenly remembered Ericka’s words, to entertain Night. "—fine."

Night looked at me. "We’re going to do it?" Isn’t he already forcing me? Why bother asking.

With that, we entered the couple games contest of 2nd-year class c. Everyone was looking at us amazed and envious.

’The girls are totally envious of me. If I could, I would switch with them.’ I thought as I sighed.

It’s a tiring game of treasure hunt while holding hands. ’Yeah, the first rule of the couple games contest is to hold hands and not let go.’ Basically, it’s a just treasure hunt that they just want to call a game for couples. Once we let go of each other’s hands, we lose immediately. Someone will follow us around while taking a video to make sure that we’re not going to break the rules.

"I’ll be the one accompanying you two." I can see how wide Anne’s smile is after she said that.

’I didn’t expect that this class is where my underclassman from the swimming club is in.’ I thought as I let Anne take out her camera.

"I’ll be taking a video as you two go on your sweet adventure together." Anne almost squealed while saying that causing me to grimace. Does she have no plans on hiding that grin on her face?

"Seniors should start finding clues now or you’ll lose."

Ugh, hearing that made my competitiveness spark. "Let’s go." I pulled Night towards the gymnasium where the paper we got from Anne tells us to go. What will we find in the gymnasium anyway? "What are we trying to find in the first place?"

Anne smiled. "It is something sparkly. You’ll know it." She said.

Night and I walked in the hallway getting all attention on us. ’Wait, is Kaoru even following us? I didn’t see him leave the classroom with me before.’ I looked at Night and he was still smiling, it was really weird.

"Where’s Kaoru?"

"Why do you want to know?"

Why is he asking me back? "Because he’s my bodyguard," I whispered to his ear, but he suddenly looked at me causing me to freeze while I heard someone squeal behind us. I looked at Anne and she was still taking our video.

"D-Don’t mind me." She said while blushing. "P-Please, continue."

Who would continue? Continue what?

I sighed as I moved my face away from Night. "If we don’t need Kaoru, then it’s fine."

"Why would you need Kaoru when I’m by your side?"

Yeah, right. As if that will make my heartbeat go faster. "Let’s finish this quickly." I almost let go of Night’s hand which made his grip on mine tighten.

"We can’t lose that quickly." He said with that annoying smile on his face. He’s not particularly annoying me, but why do I find his smile so annoying? Even though it’s rare for him to smile that looks genuine.

"Hold my hand and don’t let go."

I heard that squeal again making me sigh. ’This is getting nowhere.’ I thought as we walked towards the gymnasium.

When we arrived, some of the couples that are competing with us are already there. They’re searching everywhere but I don’t think someone found the first clue yet. ’What could it be?’

We entered the gymnasium and there were only a few students that are preparing for the concert later. It’ll be like a party to commemorate the successful ending of this school festival. My last school festival...

But I’m spending it with this guy. ’Tsk. I would want to spend it with Ace and Andy.’

If it was the past me, I would be dying to hold Night’s hand like this and even spend the whole day with him.

"Could it be, that sparkly thing?" I pointed to the sparkling thing near the stage.

Everything changed now, and it will continue to change.

"You found it," Anne said.

Wait, it’s that easy? There’s no way it’s that easy, right? When we reached the stage, students are calling us. "Here are some quizzes for the special couple." The male student said causing my forehead to crease.

’Special couple? In what way?’ I thought as I just listened. If it’s about academics, Night can answer it all.

"When and how did the two of you meet?"

Huh?

Wait, is everyone participating in this game in a relationship? Of course! It’s a couple games contest!

"Uhm, we’re not—"

"We met at school. She bumped into a table and made all the things on top of it fall." Night said making me turn to him. What is he saying? "I helped her pick it all up. When I left, she called for my name and bumped into my back which made her fall on her—"

I immediately covered Night’s mouth after he started spouting things. H-How comes he remembers that time!?

"A-Are you going to keep acting this way?"

Night tilted his head as he removed my hand from his mouth. "Acting like what?" He’s acting as if he’s clueless again

"I’ll be asking the next question." The male student said.

I don’t even know the point of this anymore since I’m not in a relationship with this guy. ’This is pointless.’

"We have another date for tomorrow." Night said as if he heard what went inside my head. "Don’t you like this game for couples?" He asked.

I shook my head. "We’re not a couple," I said. What’s the point of lying to him? He already knows what I feel anyway. "If we could back out, I’ll be happy." Running around like that caused me to feel hungry and it’s tiring walking in high heels.

"Can we still hold hands?"

I looked at his hand holding mine. ’I guess since I’m his escort today.’

"Sure."

Even though he’s probably just acting since we’re at school. The moment this ’date’ thing is done, he’ll go back to being that cold and snob Night again. ’I’ll just wait for that to come.’

Even though Anne tried her best to stop us from backing out from that game for couples, Night wasn’t someone you can stop if he already decided on doing something else.

We spend our time walking around the school eating almost everything that we passed by. No, to be more specific, it was only me who was eating while Night’s holding onto my food.

"I didn’t know you like eating."

"You don’t know lots of things about me." Silence followed that and I don’t really care if that makes things awkward. I continued walking while Night’s followed me. "It’s okay since you don’t have to know more about me." I tried to make things better by saying that but Night looked pissed.

’What? Did I say something wrong?’

Night walked in front of me and I followed him. I didn’t even notice that it was already getting dark and the students are all preparing for the outdoor concert. Our school has lots of bands after all, and they worked hard to be able to perform well. There will be fireworks too, but I’m not in the mood for that anymore.

"Are we going to stop this date now?" I asked since Night isn’t talking to me anymore while we walk in the hallway. ’If this keeps up, he’ll probably forget about that date in the amusement park too. That will be nice.’

He turned to me and reached out to my hand. "I still want to be with you." Night said as he gently pulled me into an empty room. When we entered, I could see the stage outside from the window clearly. This will be a good spot to watch the concert, but I’m not interested in that.

’I want to be with my friends.’

"Why do you keep pretending that you like me?"

"Because I do."

"I don’t believe you."

Night sat on one of the desks inside the room. "What should I do for you to believe me?"

"Nothing. I won’t believe you no matter what happens."

A smile formed on his face, it was a gloomy smile. "You want to spend the day with your friends right? Let’s return these clothes." He said as he went out of the room and so I followed him from behind. When we returned the clothes, Night walked away without waiting for me.

"What happened? Did you two fight?" Ericka asked but I just shrugged.

I walked to our classroom, Andy and Ace were there. "Oh? What’s this? What happened to your date with the prince?"

"Don’t even ask about it."
