Chapter 105: Opening Up
"Do I really have to?"
Ericka smiled at me. "Of course! What will people say to our club if you don’t go on a school date with Night just like what he wanted?" She said. "You know, you also need to go to that amusement park with him since he won the grand prize that he worked hard for, right?"
I grunted as I looked at Leslie. "There’s nothing I can do. I lost." She said with a gloomy atmosphere around her. Is she still not over with what happened?
"Look, Night’s already here." I looked at the door, and there I saw Night. "You two should go visit our cosplay café. The visitors are free to try cosplay." Ericka said as she pulled me towards where Night was. "Let’s go to our cosplay café. I’ll help the two of you change clothes."
Ericka pulled Night and me towards their café without even asking if it was fine for Night. ’She’s really bold to do this.’
I glanced at Night and he doesn’t look like he was annoyed by it. What’s weird is it’s the complete opposite. He looks like he’s enjoying this. ’This isn’t right. There’s something wrong with Night right now.’
"Welcome to our cosplay café!" Those were what Ericka’s classmates told us the moment we arrived. "Oh, it’s only Ericka."
Ericka smiled. "Hey, put these two in matching costumes." She said as she showed us to her classmates. "It’s a free service since Night won our club’s hardest game." By hardest game, does she mean defeating Leslie in a swimming contest?
"Sure, come here Noelle." One of Ericka’s girls’ classmates called me and we went inside one of the partitions. "What costume do you want to wear?" They’re asking me?
"She already wore a princess costume so let’s go with an angel today."
"That’s true! Let’s do that. Tell the others to put Night on a devil’s costume."
I didn’t even have the say on what kind of costume I’ll be wearing, and these girls handled it by themselves. These girls don’t hate me, maybe they’re not Night’s fan girls.
’I’m so glad if that’s it because I don’t want to get onto a fight again.’ I thought as I let them tell me what to do. I’m doing this only because of the swimming club.
"We need more frills!"
I sighed upon hearing that. ’I want this day to end so that I could go back to bed and sleep.’ I’m even neglecting my duties at our booth because of this, even though Andy allowed me, I still feel like I’m going to be hated by some of our classmates.
"There you go. So adorable!"
I looked at the mirror and smiled. ’I actually want to sigh but since they put effort into these clothes, I wanted to look happy for them.’
I’m wearing a white frilly dress reaching right above the knee with short puffy sleeves. It’s simple, but with all the accessories they made me wear, it looks so pretty.
"Should we settle with this halo headband or these white hair clips?" One of the girls asked me, but it doesn’t really matter to me.
"She’s an angel, of course, we should go with the halo."
I’m wearing an all-white costume; won’t this get stains if I get into trouble?
"Also, wear these small wings."
I tried my best to smile in front of them despite being dressed up and styled into something they like.
"See? She’s so pretty. As expected of the champion of Westside High School’s beauty pageant this year." One said.
’Would they stop talking about that? I didn’t even notice that I already won. It was anti-climactic.’ I thought as I shook my head.
"You may meet your prince— I mean your devil now."
I nodded as I went out and that’s exactly when Night came out of the other room. It caused me to feel flustered as I saw his attire. It’s no different from his attire whenever he goes to work in the Yamaguchi household. He’s wearing a black suit with a red tie, a black cape and half of his hair brushed up.
"Are you supposed to be the devil?" Why does he look like a vampire instead?
"You forgot your horns," Ericka said as she placed the headband on Night’s head. "There you go. Enjoy your date." She giggled as she gave me a thumbs-up.
I shook my head as the two of us went out of that cosplay café. ’Now what?’ I turned to him and he was already garnering attention just by standing there in that costume.
’Wait, what is that?’
My curiosity got the best of me as I touched Night’s neck causing him to flinch. "Is this a real tattoo?"
"I-It’s not."
I blinked thousands of times after hearing Night stutter, causing me to realize what I did so I quickly pulled my hand back.
"I-I’m sorry for suddenly touching you."
The marks on his neck reaching his jaw distracted me and caused me to make actions I didn’t think of before. ’What’s with me? I’m acting just like him with this.’
"Uhm, do I have to entertain you?"
Night chuckled making my eyes go wide. Even the people passing us by quickly turned their heads after hearing him laugh. T-That’s right, seeing and hearing Night Fuentes laugh is like a once-in-a-blue-moon event.
"What do you want to do?" He asked me causing my forehead to crease.
’Why would he ask me that? If I can honestly answer, then I want to go home.’
"I want to go home," I muttered.
"Night, omg did you just laugh?"
We got disrupted by tons of girls as they push me away from Night and flocked over him. I almost tripped because of that and if I broke these beautiful shoes they made me borrow, I’ll feel really bad.
"Uhm..."
I tried to interfere but the girls glared at me as if telling me to go away. I mean, I would if I could but he’s my responsibility right now. It’s not like I can let him tell people that the swimming club goes back with their words. That will ruin our reputation.
"Move." Night said in a stern voice. It’s the first time he did that at school. Whenever the girls flock around him, he just ignores them and lets them do whatever they want.
"N-Night?" Bethany stuttered.
’So she’s here after all.’ I thought. I didn’t notice her since there are many of them here.
Night looked at her with those cold and unfriendly eyes. ’What’s going on? Why is he acting like how he acted with me before?’
"Are you deaf? I said move."
The moment he said those words, the atmosphere dropped and all the girls moved away from him. When his eyes landed on me, a smile formed on his face as if he didn’t look at those girls coldly. "Let’s go." He said as he reached out to my hand and I unwillingly accepted it.
As we walked away from those girls, I could feel their gaze piercing my back. ’It hurts.’ I thought as I glanced at Night who was currently holding my hand with a smile on his face.
We’re garnering attention right now, but he doesn’t seem to care at all. ’Is this still the same Night that told me he despises me? How could he just hold my hand as if it doesn’t bother him? He’s really going through this just because he wanted to take revenge on me?’
Is he also willing to let go of his prince image at school? I know those girls won’t stop liking him just because of his cold actions towards them, but they’ll keep on hating me. They’ll pour their hatred of the situation on me, and that scares me.
"Why did you do that?"
"Do what?"
Is he asking because he really doesn’t know, or is he acting like he doesn’t know?
"Why did you act mean towards your fans? Aren’t you keeping being the Yamaguchi-gumi’s heir a secret? What if they started searching for you because of the way you acted?"
"Who said I’m keeping it a secret?"
I stopped walking as I pulled my hand away from him. "What?" He’s not keeping it a secret? Then why did he make Asahi go for the parent-teacher conference instead of his dad— oh, right... Uncle is comatose so he can’t come.
"You’re not keeping your identity a secret? Then why are you using your mother’s surname instead of your surname?"
Night looked like he was about to retort. ’He must be thinking that this is bothersome. The way I question him every time. Even though he’s free to retort and tell me to stop questioning him. That’s what I’m used to after all.’ I thought.
"Because it’s bothersome."
"H-Huh? What is?"
Even though the people around us are noisy, my focus was on Night as he looked me in the eye. "Being the heir to the yakuza group even though I didn’t want to." He said.
Night doesn’t want to become the heir? Wait! Did he just open up to me?
