Chapter 43: Another Chance

The day passed as if nothing had happened. No one learned of that incident; it must have been the work of the yakuza. I locked myself in my room studying all day since Tomoe canceled our lessons like Kenji had told her to do. She only gave

notes to read and study while taking a break. I also need to focus on the special examination that will be held next week, Wednesday.

I sighed.

El’s been sending

ssages and even a picture of him to tell

he’s alright. I apologized and thanked him for protecting , but after that, I started ignoring his ssages. It’ll be for his own good if I keep my distance from him.

"Shall I bring so snacks, young miss?" Rika asked.

I smiled as I massaged my temples. "It’s fine. I’m not hungry yet." Rika left after that.

It’s not until today that I learned about the masked man being imprisoned inside this mansion. Rika said that they’re questioning him for what he did to get so clues about my situation. Also, Kaoru got suspended because of what happened.

Although it’s beyond Kaoru’s control, Kenji told

they must educate Kaoru so that this incident won’t happen again. I feel bad. It’s not even Kaoru’s fault. It was

who told him to enjoy himself and leave. Because of that, he’s being punished.

I tried my best to review to the fullest, and with all that I’ve learned from El, I think I can pass this exam. ’Before I pass away due to stress, that is.’ I thought. The special examinations are on Wednesday, and I have training on Monday and Tuesday. Even though coach Samantha told

to take it easy since she knew about the special examination, I didn’t want to skip training either. After this examination, I won’t need to skip anything anymore.

"Are you sure you’re going to attend the training?" Ericka asked while we were on our way to the locker room. It’s already Monday, and I don’t know what happened with the sports festival, but my classmates all look happy with the results. Maybe we won? "Didn’t you get into an accident during the sports festival? What if you get hurt again?"

I smiled. That’s what the students all know about what happened. That it was an accident. "Don’t worry about—"My eyes widened. I couldn’t continue what I was saying after seeing a familiar face the mont we passed by the girls’ restroom on the third floor.

’What the— I swear that person’s so familiar I know I saw him sowhere else before.’ I thought. The familiar person was wearing a janitor’s uniform and a cap, but when he bowed to , that’s how I realized where I had seen him before.

’It’s one of the Yamaguchi-gumi’s mbers! I know it because he greets

every morning with everyone!’ I thought as I started biting my finger. Did they plant people in our school to ensure that incident won’t ever happen again? Is that why they’re allowing

to roam the school without Kaoru by my side? Kaoru’s still receiving disciplinary actions from Kenji’s father, and I don’t know when that will last.

"I-I’m fine. I was just surprised. I didn’t get an injury or sothing." I’ll just ignore them. I’m more glad to be with those people who greet

warmly than those masked n who aid their guns at . "I promise I won’t push myself too much this ti."

Ericka sighed. "Fine. I’ll help you to finish early." She said, which made

smile.

We arrived at the indoor pool and entered the locker room. "Tsk." Leslie clicked her tongue upon seeing us, but I just bowed my head to greet her. She finished changing and left the room after that.

"Don’t mind, Leslie. She’s kind of a snob." Ericka said as we moved to our lockers. I don’t really mind how Leslie treats . I’m used to that treatnt after being with Night for almost a month. "Should I tell the coach to make things easier for you now?"

I shook my head after we changed clothing. "You don’t have to do that. I’m really doing fine." I giggled as we went out of the locker room. There’s nothing much different from how our regular training went. The only difference is that Night was waiting by the door after the training was done.

It caused an uproar on the swimming team, but I chose to ignore him to not make things worse. He’s the one who told

to stop garnering attention to myself as if he’s not doing the sa.

Ericka couldn’t go with

because she saw how Night’s tailed , which was annoying. He didn’t say anything and left imdiately after I got inside the car where Kenji was waiting. "What is wrong with Night?"

Kenji started the car. "What does the lady an?"

"Night keeps following

after training, and it causes too much attention." I rolled my eyes. "He’s the one who told

to stop catching attention, but he keeps doing things like this." It’s funny and annoying at the sa ti.

Kenji chuckled. "Please forgive the young master. He’s being wary of the place after what happened. It might not look like it, but when the young master has a mission, he’s a perfectionist." He said. "Since Kaoru’s suspended, the young master cannot let the young miss be alone."

I scoffed. "Even after planting people on the school grounds? Did you think I won’t recognize so of your people?"

Kenji couldn’t hide his laugh. "The lady beca more aware of her surroundings before you don’t even notice when I look in your direction. You always have your eyes on the young master." He said.

"Thank god then. After losing feelings for him, I beca a better person for myself."

Kenji didn’t say anything after I said that. Today I will read Tomoe’s notes, and then I’ll study my lessons. Mathematics isn’t that hard when soone’s guiding , but when there’s no one beside , I often doubt myself.

One of the latest mathematics lessons that El couldn’t teach

was the hardest part. "How am I going to do this by myself?" That’s the first thing that ca to mind, but I didn’t want to disturb anyone just for my own good. "Let’s just search on the internet." I can’t rely on soone else every single ti. That’s why they created the internet.

I opened my phone and went to YouTube. ’I’ll just search this here.’ Ace said she often searches on the internet whenever she doesn’t get anything with our lessons. "I can do this. I don’t need to rely on other people with this."

That’s what I said, but no matter how much I try, I still don’t get it. "How do people get this?" It’s too hard. It made

put my forehead on my desk while sighing. I can’t understand what the person is talking about, too, since the volu’s too low and there are no subtitles. "It’s too hard." I continued sighing until I heard a knock on the door.

"Young miss, the young master has called for you."

I rolled my eyes. What is it this ti? "Can you tell him I don’t have ti for him right now?"

"But the young master told

to tell the young miss to bring her books and reviewers."

I raised an eyebrow. "If he’s planning to teach , say that I would rather learn from this guy on YouTube," I said, but then the door opened, causing

to get up, and when I looked behind, my forehead creased. "Why are you in my room?"

Night didn’t answer as he made Kenji bring another chair and place it beside . "Excuse ? What are you doing without my permission?" I just don’t get what goes inside Night’s head. One mont he’ll be cold at , then he’ll get angry, then tail

at school, and now he’s coming into my room without saying anything? "What’s your problem?"

"I’m here to teach you."

I scoffed. "I don’t learn anything with your teachings, so no thanks."

"You don’t have a choice. It’ll be bad for

if you end up not passing the examination."

My forehead creased. "Excuse ? I would rather not pass than be degraded by you, and you’re telling

it’s what you call teaching."

"Just shut up and listen."

See? He’s already starting, but I’m not in the mood to handle him right now. So, I stood up and was about to get my things, but Night held my dress. "I won’t call you stupid anymore." He said. As if I can trust him on that. For sure, he’ll be screaming at

the mont I sit back down on my chair.

"Please, give the young master a chance, young lady," Kenji said with a smile while he scratched his head. "I assure you that he won’t repeat sothing hurtful." I don’t want his assurance, and I don’t want Night here, but he won’t budge from his seat.

’Oh, for Pete’s sake.’ I thought as I sat back down on my chair. "Fine."
