Chapter 42: Never Enough
Noelle’s POV
I can feel my whole body trembling in fear as I hold El’s hand. He said to trust him, and that’s what I’ll do. But I can’t stop fearing what cos next. "I’ll count to three."
"I-I’m scared."
I felt El’s grip on my hand tightening. "Don’t be scared. You have . We can do it, okay?" I nodded after he said that.
"One..."
I panted.
"Two..."
I took a deep breath.
"Three!"
We rushed towards the window. I jumped as fast as I could and landed on the grass outside. El followed, but those masked n noticed us and started following us. "Hurry!" El said as we rushed towards the field. How co it’s too far from here?
"Soone! Help!" I scread at the top of my lungs, but the cheers from the field made them unable to hear
at all. "Help us!"
As we run beside the building, I felt El’s arm pulling
towards him. "Watch out!" He said, and that’s when I saw that man wearing the masquerade mask and white tuxedo aiming his gun at El. It didn’t sound as if I was deafened, but then I felt a warm liquid coming out of El’s stomach.
"E-El?" I gasped. "N-No, please, no." Tears started falling out of my eyes as El fell to his knees, and so did I. The masked man started strolling toward us, making my heart beat faster. It’s as if that person beca gleeful witnessing my despair. ’W-What should I do? He’ll definitely kill El if I don’t do sothing.’
El grabbed my arm. "R-Run." Blood ca out of his mouth after he said that. "G-Get so help. I-I’ll buy you so ti." He spat blood again, making
sob as I felt the blood in my hands.
"H-How could I leave you alone like this?" I shook my head. "I-I’ll carry you." I showed him my back, but instead of getting on, El pushed
away.
"Run."
That’s when the masked man ran towards us, anxious that I might get away, but I quickly stood up. ’W-What should I do?’
"Don’t think, just run!"
I ran towards the field as fast as I could with tears coming out of my eyes, and I didn’t know if I was still breathing right. "S-Soone." All I know is that I can’t let El die. I can’t let anyone die because of . "S-Soone p-please—" I bumped into soone, making

I looked up, and tears rushed out of my eyes again. "P-Please help ," I told him. It’s shaless of
to ask this man in front of , but I can’t let El die. "A-A man wearing a masquerade mask h-he’s going to kill El." I gasped as I couldn’t feel my legs anymore.
"Please, help , Night."
"What did you say?" I trembled after hearing his cold tone. "A man, wearing a masquerade mask?"
I nodded while gasping for air. Night’s expression turned dark after hearing that. "Where is he?" I pointed in the direction where I ca from, and Night rushed to that place without even waiting for
to say sothing else. ’I-Is he going to save El?’
The mont I felt relieved, thinking that help was coming, my body lost all energy, and I lost consciousness.
"Noelle?"
My eyes slowly opened, and all I could see was a bright white ceiling and my friends’ worried faces. "What the hell happened to you?" Andy asked as soon as I got up. The mont I rembered El, I was about to get off the bed, but Ace stopped .
"Where do you think you’re going?" Ace’s words were stern, and I could feel she was angry. "Would you at least explain what happened and why you were covered with blood?" She asked. ’W-What should I say? It’s not like I can tell them about my situation.’
"I-It’s El."
Ace’s forehead creased. "El? The guy who’s tutoring you the past days?"
I nodded. I need to see El. "He got injured. Is he alright now? I need to help him."
Andy let out a deep sigh. "If you’re talking about that guy, his butler or whatever you call him took him ho already."
"I-Is he okay?"
Andy nodded. "Yeah. Night helped him. I didn’t know he could be such a helpful person."
"What about the masked man?"
Andy and Ace looked at each other. "What masked man?"
’H-Huh? The masked man! The one who tried to kill El and shot him right in the stomach!’
"Are you sure you’re okay?" Ace asked.
That’s when Kaoru ca inside the room. Where am I anyway? "We should go ho now, Noelle." He said, making Ace block his way. "Please, I need to help Noelle et our family doctor," Kaoru said with a severe tone. It’s the first ti I’ve heard him speak like that. It’s weird.
"P-Please, I’ll explain it later." Ace and Andy left the room because of that. "What happened to the masked man? Is El okay? Did Night really help him? What about the sports festival?" I bombarded Kaoru with questions as soon as my friends got out.
Kaoru tidied up my things. I realize that I’m in the school’s infirmary. "The sports festival will continue, and the other students don’t know the situation." He said. "Your friend is okay. He’s quickly brought to the hospital by his driver, and the young master did help him." Whoa, I can’t believe Night will truly help El.
"I need to see El. Is he really fine? Does he need surgery for what happened?" What if he doesn’t want to beco my friend anymore? Wait... I can’t et him again; I might put him in danger for the second ti. "Never mind, let’s just go ho."
I bid my friends goodbye, and even if they looked like they wanted to ask lots of questions, they stopped themselves. They’re worried about , and I can feel that just by their actions. "Is the lady alright? Are you hurt?" Kenji asked
as soon as I got in the car. That reminds , who helped
change clothes? Not that it matters more than what happened today.
"I’m fine."
I don’t think I’ll ever get used to seeing people get shot and seeing people aim a gun at . It’s traumatizing, and every ti I close my eyes, that man with a masquerade mask keeps showing up inside my head.
"The lady should just rest and not think about the bridal lessons. I shall tell lady Tomoe that the lady will skip it for today." Kenji said.
I can’t even reject his offer because I’m too tired, and I can still feel my body trembling. I want to hug El and ask for forgiveness, but I don’t know if that will make things worse or not.
"Young miss!" Rika imdiately hugged
as soon as she saw
entering the gate. "I’m so worried about you, young miss." She said, making
bit my lower lip as I suppressed my tears. I can’t let other people see
cry. Night already saw
crying; I didn’t want to embarrass myself even more.
Rika and I went to my room, and as soon as we were out of other people’s sight, I started sobbing like a child, and it caused Rika to go and hug
again. "I-I was so scared." I hugged Rika tightly as I sobbed nonstop. She’s even sobbing with , making
feel better than crying alone.
Who would expect that the girl I once doubted to be a psychopath would be the only one that could comfort
like this? Ace and Andy will only worry if they learn what truly happened today.
"You’re safe now, young miss."
Rika patted my back as I let it all out. El’s my friend, always helps
out, but all I did to him was put him in danger. "I always put other people in danger. I’m the one who should have been shot, not him."
"Please don’t say that, young miss." Rika let go of the hug as she looked
in the eyes. "It’s not the young miss’s fault. Those people should be blad for trying to hurt the young miss." She said as she pulled
into a hug again.
"But El got shot instead of . He’s a good friend, but he got in danger because of ."
Rika continued patting my back. "He’s the young miss’s savior and a loyal friend. The young miss does not deserve to get hurt. That’s why your friend protected you." I can’t help but feel bad for El. He even told
his real na despite not knowing what would happen to him if he kept being around .
"Now, I can’t be near him anymore."
I stayed in my room the whole day staring at nothing. Rika keeps telling
to eat sothing, but rembering the blood coming from El’s stomach makes
want to barf. "I hope he’s alright," I muttered as I put a pillow on my face. All I did was run away and ask for soone’s help. It’s because I’m not strong enough to help anyone.
I’m not even strong enough to help myself.
