Salvatore stared at her for a few seconds long before nodding and leaving the living room. Evelyn watched as the lift doors closed.
So that was it then? He asked her two tis and that was it?
Evelyn twisted her face and comfortably before walking up stairs only for her to be called back by the butler.
"Madam?" The Butler called, making Evelyn stop and turn around mid step. "Your guard; Julian and driver will be ready in 10 minutes. Would that be enough for you to get ready?"
So she was going out!
Evelyn gave him a frantic nod before moving upstairs hurriedly and changing into better clothes.
She might not be just representing her dead father and what he had taught her but also the family that had taken her into their protection.
She wore a maroon jumpsuit with golden jewelry and golden earrings. Her High heels made a statent along with the Chanel bag.
Ten minutes was too much given to her and Evelyn was ready within five. After which she was already making her way down stairs.
The butler held the left open for her before closing at after pushing the button in. After a long ti it was Evelyn alone who was travelling inside a left without the presence of Julian. He was like a ghost constantly hovering over her.
And to speak of that ghost, just as the doors opened Julian was standing there with his hands clasped in front of him.
Open her car door after they had worked out of the building and just as he sat inside the driver held onto the road before driving to the house of Mancini’s.
During the entire car ride Evelyn wondered what she was going to say to them. A social anxiety was speaking and she could not help but constantly glance to her side. The absence of her father really made her suffer in more than one way.
The mansion appeared in front of them before the car was stopped and the watchman asked for clearance and their reason for being here. All it took from Julian was one word and the guard was back in his spot. Salvatore must have had a word with the family.
The car stopped in front of the entrance and Julian got off first before opening Evelyn’s door. With the huge deep breath, Evelyn God of and was imdiately greeted by Aldo’s mother.
"Auntie Cara," Evelyn smiled but imdiately took the young girl in her arms. Evelyn welcod the hug with open arms.
"How are you, child?" Cara Murmured into the shoulder of Evelyn. "I heard your father put you in the protection of that vile family. Are they treating you well? Should we take you away?"
As much as Evelyn wanted to agree with the fact that the family would just as they had heard about them in the rumours they were actually nothing like that with her and that was sothing that she could not deny.
"No," she told the older woman softly before pulling away, "they treat like their own. I am obviously not involved with the business but they take care of ." She could not help but take a long sniff of her scent. Cara slled like ho.
She slled like a mother.
Cara chuckled and shook her head. "You know I find that very hard to believe but I know you will not lie to . So I will take your word for it."
Evelyn laughed politely. She had not forgotten the fact that Julian was standing next to her and if Salvatore us every detail would be given to him.
"Now co on," Cara held her hand and dragged her in, "I know you must be hungry and you must be craving my spaghetti. I have even made pastries!"
Evelyn bit her lip and did not speak out instead let herself be dragged by the woman. Cara was the woman that had taken birth in an organised cri family and like many others when her family was in threat, Cara would pick up the gun or be in constant denial. The latter of which was happening at the mont.
Cara was in denial of her son being sick and instead of letting Evelyn et him she was focusing on completely different events.
"Auntie," Evelyn stopped working and Cara looked at her as she turned around in question, "I’m here to et Aldo. Do you mind if I go there?"
Cara’s smile vanished and she sobered up. "You are here to et him?"
Evelyn nodded.
"Oh," Cara whispered and anyone could see that she was holding back her tears. "Imagine preparing yourself for the day when he gets bombed or poisoned or shot and it’s just a car accident that has him lying on the bed like a dead person!" Cara chuckled and looked down.
"Life is so fickle, that it just gets hard to believe at tis."
Evelyn felt the words and found herself to be in the arms of the woman again. This ti seeking comfort instead of giving her.
"I am sorry auntie," she whispered to the older woman as Evelyn rubbed her shoulder.
"Oh baby," Cara laughed gently, "it has got nothing to do with us, so do not apologize. Co I will take you to his room."
Cara pulled back and smiled at Evelyn before taking her hand and taking her upstairs but this ti they walked side by side.
They ca to a room in front of which Evelyn could sll the heavy scent of chemicals.
"I apologize for this sll," Cara whispered to her, "apparently it’s necessary for them to clean with chemicals." She babbled while making faces, making Evelyn chuckle.
The entrance to the room led to a small hallway that let them towards the side. The wall was enough for only two people to enter at once and just as it finished Aldo appeared.
Aldo, her friend, who was wrapped up in bandages.
