Chapter 1712: Chapter 813: The Petty Thief Calls for a General

The night view of the Provincial City definitely can’t compare to the Capital. Although the lights are bright, the liveliness is clearly lacking.

The Yuzhou Province, with a population of over a hundred million, is almost as big as Russia. Yet the Provincial City’s developnt still can’t keep pace. The nightscape, which used to seem quite decent, now seed just ordinary to Boss Yan after his frequent trips around the Northeast and beyond.

Yan Fei drove off the highway on his way ho. Apart from stopping at a few traffic lights, the road was smooth sailing—though for the old-tirs familiar with the Provincial City, many simply ran the red lights anyway. After all, at night there’s no one around, and the traffic caras are so sparse they’re almost non-existent.

As his house ca into view, Yan Fei’s eyes glinted with mischief. Chuckling to himself, he parked the car far away, onto the sidewalk, and began sneaking toward his ho on tiptoes.

Just as he reached the yard, a few large dogs started heading toward him. But with just a glare from him, they obediently stayed in place.

He walked to the back of the house and, with a leap, jumped onto the window. Taking a piece of wire, he inserted it into the gap of the wooden window and began to twist it slowly.

It was thanks to the trees in the yard that he was hidden in the dead of night. Otherwise, any random passerby would’ve surely called ergency services, shouting about a burglary in progress.

Old-fashioned wooden windows are relatively easy to open, but this was sothing only Yan Fei could manage. Anyone else attempting to enter through the yard would first have to face those seemingly calm but actually ferocious guard dogs, who wouldn’t hesitate to attack even a dinosaur.

With a soft “pop,” the window latch released. Yan Fei chuckled to himself as he gently pushed the window open and slid inside in one swift motion…

Whoosh…

Sothing dark flew straight at his face. Just as he reached out to grab it, a sharp shout rang out: “Who’s there…”

Another “whoosh.” By the ti he pulled the fabric from his face, he saw his wife leaping off the bed, gripping the coat rack she usually kept by the bedside. She lunged toward him in a move resembling “Mount Tai Descends.”

Yan Fei barely managed to catch the coat rack with his free hand when she suddenly flipped mid-air. Her feet unleashed a flurry of kicks in quick succession.

He didn’t even dare block them because she had jumped down from the bed barefoot!

Not only did he not block the kicks, but he made sure to use the softest parts of his body to absorb them so as not to hurt her delicate feet in the process.

But who would’ve thought? Seeing him still standing, Xu Xiaoyan didn’t stop. She pulled off one of the rack’s legs and aid it right at his chest like a spear…

“It’s !” Yan Fei’s mischievous intentions imdiately disappeared as he realized his wife wouldn’t stop until she toppled him. If he didn’t speak up, who knew how many more blows he’d suffer?

“Exactly! Who else would I be hitting? Sneaking into your own house through the window in the middle of the night…” Xu Xiaoyan poked him in the chest with the wooden leg, leapt up, and latched onto him. “Carry back to bed!”

“Alright, alright!” Yan Fei hastily dropped the coat rack in his right hand and the coat in his left, then shut the window as he held her and carried her toward the bed. “How did you realize it was ?”

“When I kicked you a few tis, I figured it out,” she giggled. “I already suspected it was you since the dogs in the yard didn’t react.”

“Then why did you still hit so hard?” Yan Fei muttered in dissatisfaction.

“What’s there to be afraid of?” she replied, unconcerned. “What if it had been an intruder? If it’s you, my simple moves wouldn’t hurt you anyway. And if it’s not you, what’s the point of waiting to act? Didn’t you constantly teach to strike first in a dangerous situation?”

“…” Yan Fei was montarily speechless. He couldn’t argue with her logic. After all, he had been genuinely caught off guard just now. He hadn’t been expecting her to react so fiercely, especially when he had been preoccupied with… less-than-pure thoughts.

That coat rack was high-quality solid wood, about as thick as a wrist and taller than a person, with legs at the bottom and multiple hooks at the top for hanging clothes. It was heavy. Plus, Xu Xiaoyan had leapt at him from the bed after throwing a coat first. If it had been a hapless thief instead of him, they might’ve been seriously injured—or worse.

And those spinning, barefoot kicks of hers? Even though she wasn’t wearing shoes, any ordinary person would’ve been left incapacitated. Xu Xiaoyan’s physical fitness already far exceeded the average person’s thanks to her yoga and the simple self-defense techniques Yan Fei had taught her. Forget an average person—if a couple of well-trained soldiers ran into that assault she just pulled, they’d probably be taken down as well.

All this was thanks to Boss Yan’s personal training. He’d lost no chance to remind her: “If you ever find yourself in danger, you must strike first. Don’t hesitate. Better to hurt soone else than let yourself get hurt…”

Of course, this teaching had its context. Xu Xiaoyan wasn’t soone who liked to stir up trouble. If she ever took action, you could bet she had good reason. Like just now—if it really had been a bad guy sneaking past the guard dogs, the danger to her alone in the house would’ve been unimaginable. Her powerful response was entirely justifiable.

What Yan Fei feared most was the possibility of her getting hurt soday when he wasn’t around. That’s why he had instilled this mindset in her so persistently.

Now it seed that his efforts had borne fruit…

As for the question of whether she might accidentally kill soone in such a situation, it wasn’t that Yan Fei was callous because of his own strength. But anyone breaking into a house in the dead of night? You could never be sure of their intentions.

That said, all of this was only made possible because Xu Xiaoyan had soone like Yan Fei as her hidden, formidable support. If she had been an ordinary person, even if she managed to protect herself in the mont, the aftermath could’ve been very difficult…
