Chapter 1656: Chapter 787 ng Si’an’s Intent to Cooperate

The Capital in the early morning has the richest flavors. Along many ancient streets are rows of Chinese Scholar Trees.

In winter, the bare branches of the Scholar Trees stretch chaotically toward the sky, exuding a unique sense of desolation and rusticity. Together with the aged blue bricks and green tiles of the courtyards lining the streets, they form a distinct, historically rich atmosphere.

Many people’s impressions of the old streets of the Capital are just like this.

In Yan Fei’s childhood mories, these Scholar Trees were ever-present. Back then, when so other child would scream and shout until their voice beca hoarse, the elderly at ho would use branches of the Scholar Tree. They’d strip off the outer bark, pour in a dash of vinegar and sesa oil, stir it all with the branch, and then have the child drink it down.

The effect was phenonal—usually, one drink was enough to cure them.

Yan Fei even secretly envied those kids; after all, there was sesa oil mixed in it. The sour and fragrant aroma, combined with the scent of Scholar Tree branches, was quite enticing.

But Yan Fei, this oddball, found it hard to get sick. Even before his ti playing with dinosaurs in the dinosaur world, he seldom got ill. It was unfortunate, really—he sotis deeply envied those sick kids who were pampered by their families, who had the chance to ask for gifts and snacks…

However, his grandfather never treated him like that. If he showed interest in the braised at by the entrance, his grandfather would toss him a pig tail to gnaw on. Most of the ti, he let him ss around in the blacksmith’s shop. On the rare occasions his antics got under his grandfather’s skin, Yan Fei found himself smacked with a hefty hand—except naughty children were rarely scared of getting hit. And for a kid like him who’d never been sick since birth, a smack wasn’t going to do much.

To warn him against revealing anything about the dinosaur world, his grandfather even took him to watch thieves get beaten, and in one instance, the thief was beaten to death…

Looking back now, Yan Fei couldn’t help but marvel at how he managed to grow up without turning into so homicidal maniac or developing psychological issues.

No—actually, the biggest reason Yan Fei turned out okay was thanks to the girl-next-door who often played with him. Of course, that girl-next-door was now his wife, who got kissed by him every single day…

Amid this rare mont of nostalgia, Yan Fei was reminiscing about the girl-next-door when he noticed ng Si’an standing by the roadside.

ng Si’an’s face carried a smile, though it wasn’t a particularly welcoming one. Sure enough, as soon as Yan Fei stepped out of the car, ng Si’an burst into hearty laughter: “President Yan, I never thought I’d see the day you got pulled over! Hahahaha…”

These days, car inspections weren’t really that strict. Yan Fei used to drive sports cars without a license. There were even people who drove without valid docunts for years. Little transgressions—like drunk driving, not wearing seat belts, or doing other things while driving—weren’t uncommon.

So if you did get caught, it was really bad luck. Even on highways, if they didn’t catch you on the spot, you could just drive off. It wasn’t like you committed a major cri that warranted cross-province pursuits or tracking you down—it was too much trouble…

Yan Fei carried a dark face and opened the trunk, while ng Si’an was still laughing: “Haha, now I can finally solve a mystery. The day I had that accident, how did you show up at the scene so fast to rescue us? I finally understand now! Haha… Later, my friend told you nearly made your car fly that night… Haha… You’re incredible… Even if you gave ten guts, I wouldn’t dare drive that fast…”

Who knew that a single high-speed drive would lead to this.

Thinking about it, ng Si’an wasn’t just so blockhead—otherwise, his family wouldn’t frequently send him off on errands. It was surprising how ticulous he was; even through the confusion of the car accident, he could recall those fleeting monts of ti discrepancy afterward.

Of course, ng Si’an’s mories weren’t detailed enough to capture everything; he rely sensed the timing gap and couldn’t possibly rember specifics.

Yan Fei didn’t show much reaction, maintaining his stern expression: “I ca to pick up the liquor. Read the labels carefully—there’s so for you, so for Elder ng, and so for your uncles. They’re all different. Get it wrong, and you’ll deal with the consequences yourself!”

ng Si’an imdiately stopped laughing. He knew what those “consequences” ant. There was that ti he mistakenly drank the liquor ant for seniors—which had milder dicinal effects. Then, another ti, he drank his own liquor while using the sa technique, and ended up wildly invigorated. If it weren’t for his background in a Traditional Chinese dicine family and his quick decision to stop drinking the dicinal liquor for a while, he might’ve wound up with a nosebleed.

After the two carried the liquor away, ng Si’an remarked, “You probably don’t realize how powerful your liquor is now, do you? If it weren’t for the fact that my family’s old man is around, you’d probably have squads of people seeking you out. A sip of the liquor can solve plenty of minor ailnts and even boost physical health. For many people, it’s a treasure they’re desperate for. Lots of seniors are banned from drinking alcohol by their families, but you know how it is… Without their liquor, life loses its flavor entirely.”

The two chatted casually as they walked into the courtyard house.

Such a quintessential piece of old Capital architecture hardly needed much introduction. Yet, upon entering, Yan Fei couldn’t help but be surprised: “Why does it look like there’s nobody here?”

“They don’t live here anymore. Now it’s just staying here—it’s convenient. Usually, I hire soone to help clean up. Living alone here is peaceful, and I don’t have to deal with nitpicking when they’re around,” ng Si’an explained.

“That works perfectly. I thought I’d have to greet everyone,” Yan Fei chuckled. “Anyway, I’ve got other things to do. I’ll leave the stuff here, then head over to see Professor Yang. If I have ti later, I’ll co find you for a chat. If not, I’ll catch you when I’m back!”
