Chapter 1630: Chapter 776: Arrest

Di Lingling, Di Lingling…

The phone rang, piercingly loud in the quiet darkness of the room.

Bai Jianming had a small social outing last night, drank a bit too much, and didn’t even rember how he got ho. His head was still fuzzy. He stretched his hand out from under the covers, grabbed the phone, and casually asked, “Hello? Who’s this?”

“Jianming, it’s your big brother.” The familiar voice ca through the receiver. “I’ve run into so trouble and I need to ask about soone. Do you know Yan Fei? He’s the guy running a cattle farm in Wan City…”

“Yan Fei? Yeah, I know him! He’s the biggest livestock breeder in the province. Why, what’s up? Why are you asking about him?” Bai Jianming imdiately noticed his brother’s unusual tone, and his drowsiness dissipated in an instant. He was very familiar with his elder brother’s antics—it often bordered on recklessness, and he frequently did impulsive, nonsensical things. For him to call in the dead of night asking about soone, it was definitely because sothing had happened.

“Don’t worry about why for now. Just tell what you know about Yan Fei,” Boss White responded, sounding impatient.

“You know the Morning Glory Beef Jerky comrcials on TV? That’s his. Always running ads,” Bai Jianming began, recalling bits of information he’d heard before. “I’ve heard he’s on pretty good terms with the Guo family in Hong Kong—exactly how good, I don’t really know, but they’ve partnered up. And one more thing… he’s rich. Crazy rich.”

“I know he’s rich. Got anything else beyond he’s got money? I already know he’s loaded…”

“Let finish,” Bai Jianming interrupted his brother. “His wealth isn’t the usual kind, it’s different. For most businesses claiming to be worth billions, it’s mostly tied up in fixed assets, and much of it is still owed to the banks. They’re not truly rich. But him? He doesn’t owe the banks a penny—it’s all his own money.”

“You rember the experintal field at Agricultural University? They’ve apparently built so kind of lab there now. Back when he wanted to buy that piece of land, I heard he originally said it was because he didn’t want soone else building houses there and it getting too noisy. He was prepared to spend a few million just to set up a garden. You absolutely can’t compare him with the usual wealthy types. I know people at the bank; word is he has over a billion in liquid cash spread out across accounts at various banks…”

“Hiss…” Boss White sucked in a breath.

His younger brother was right; there’s levels to being rich, and Yan Fei was operating on an entirely different one. Plenty of people claim to be billionaires, but if you asked them to fork over just a few million in cash, they’d need ti to scrape it together. Yan Fei, on the other hand, could casually drop billions into the bank without batting an eye—it’s a whole different ga.

When money reaches a certain magnitude, it becos a kind of power in itself. The old saying goes, “money can make the devil turn the millstone,” but nowadays it’s more like “money can make the millstone turn the devil.”

If Yan Fei were simply rich, it wouldn’t be an issue. But after soone in his lab was assaulted, he imdiately threw out a reward of 200,000 to catch the attackers. That kind of response demands attention.

Clearly, this guy wasn’t the type to let things slide. Offering a 200,000 bounty showed he wasn’t the kind to swallow his losses quietly. And even more concerning was that he might keep pouring money into the situation—money really could ‘bury’ people, and Boss White, being an operator in the shades of society, understood this better than anyone.

This was the real reason Boss White had called his younger brother. Wealthy people weren’t uncommon in the Provincial City, but soone like Yan Fei, who threw around money like it was nothing and lacked any sense of restraint, was in a category of his own.

Earlier, he thought his call was just a precaution—if Yan Fei started throwing money around to target him, it would definitely result in losses on his side, potentially leaving both sides hurting. But now, after hearing his brother’s description, he realized things were even worse than he had imagined. If this guy truly started waging a war with cash, Boss White’s reputation and standing—even if they were sowhat formidable—would pale in comparison. He couldn’t withstand that level of financial power.

“I don’t know much else. Just tell what happened—I’ll help you figure a way out if it’s serious,” Bai Jianming said, already certain his brother’s face was looking grim right now.

“It’s that punk Fang Fan—he got all riled up, saying he wanted to teach Yan Fei a lesson. So tonight, I got a couple of guys and had them go beat up so people at his lab,” Boss White confessed. He knew he didn’t have the sharpest brain, but his brother had cleaned up after him many tis before, so he wasn’t shy about admitting the dirty tricks he’d pulled.

“Beat up people at the lab? And then what?” Bai Jianming pressed him.

“Yan Fei went on TV and offered a reward—200,000 for catching those two guys. I told them to lay low, but they’ve already been out of contact for a while. I’m guessing sothing’s gone wrong.”

“200,000?” Bai Jianming inhaled sharply, but now wasn’t the ti to marvel at the amount. His mind spun quickly as he continued questioning him. “You told those guys to attack soone—how badly hurt are they?”

“I checked—they’re in the hospital, but they’re okay now,” Boss White replied. He had been keeping close tabs on the situation since sending people to do the job. After hearing about the bounty, he sent soone to the hospital to gather information. Now, it was just that he couldn’t get in touch with the attackers, and sensing trouble brewing, he decided to call his brother.

“Good, at least they’re not in critical condition,” Bai Jianming exhaled in relief. “Alright, here’s the plan: lay low for now. Don’t let anyone trace this back to you. I’ll dig around tomorrow and figure out the situation. If push cos to shove, we’ll try to diate—go apologize, bow your head a little. With speaking on your behalf, Yan Fei might give us so leeway. Hopefully, it won’t turn into too big of a ss…”
