Alia found it sowhat amusing but didn’t say much more.
In the blink of an eye, it was already noon.
After solving the lunch issue at the cafeteria, Alia headed towards the main gate of Caerwyn Academy, with Carlotta still following closely like a shadow.
When they reached the academy gate, Alia turned back and said, "Miss White, I plan to go to the opera house to watch a performance."
Carlotta shalessly replied, "May I have the honor of accompanying you, Miss Fenwick?"
Alia looked at Carlotta with deep aning and said, "You can, but Miss White, I hope you can seriously tell why you’ve been following all this ti when we’re at the opera house."
"I just..."
"Don’t say it’s a coincidence again, unless you think I’m one fool, which I’m clearly not, right? So, tell the real reason!"
"...I understand."
Carlotta was sowhat helpless.
Wanting to follow Alia without explaining the situation indeed seems strange, but could her reason be clearly stated?
Saying that an assassin was targeting her? But how would she know that an assassin was targeting her?
Or maybe co up with another excuse? Like saying she wanted to pursue Alia... Carlotta thought it was better to forget it. If she used such a reason, she would likely be rejected, and then she would have even less reason to follow Alia. It would be better to say that an assassin was targeting her.
For a mont, Carlotta’s thoughts were in turmoil.
Seeing Alia ahead entering a pre-stationed carriage, Carlotta imdiately rushed over and got in as well.
The carriage then slowly started moving, heading into the distance.
This ti, Alia did not go to the Dawn Opera House, but to the Rose Opera House. The Rose Opera House, along with the Dawn Opera House and the Elvr Opera House, were known as the three great opera houses of the imperial capital, Kestholm. The performances there were always unforgettable.
When the carriage stopped outside the Rose Opera House, Alia smiled at Carlotta and said, "Miss White, I’m looking forward to your reason."
With that, she got out of the carriage.
Carlotta skipped and followed, entering the Rose Opera House with Alia.
Various pieces of personal information about Alia floated in Carlotta’s mind. She had to admit that Alia was indeed a clever girl. Trying to fabricate a lie in front of Alia had a high chance of being exposed, and once the other party knew she was lying, it might lead to dislike.
Alia didn’t like pure lies.
As she pondered, Carlotta had already followed Alia to their seats. She didn’t see Alia buy the tickets, but such things didn’t require Alia to do them personally. The number of guards secretly protecting Alia had greatly increased, and they naturally took care of such trivial matters.
The seats were still in the front row, where the audience was wealthy or noble.
As soon as Carlotta sat down, she saw Alia looking at her, her lake-like blue eyes filled with a questioning gaze.
Soon, as the audience took their seats, the opera was about to begin, so Alia hoped to hear Carlotta’s explanation now, so she could fully focus on the opera later.
Carlotta understood Alia and naturally knew what she ant.
"Actually, I might be targeted by an assassin."
Carlotta said in a low voice.
Alia was imdiately filled with question marks.
She had thought of many reasons, but she never expected Carlotta to start with such content.
Carlotta continued, "I don’t know who the assassin is or why they’re targeting , but I really have this feeling. Sobody’s watching in the shadows, with killing intent, and might make a move on , and I might not be a match for them. So, Miss Fenwick, I stay by your side to make the assassin dare not act. I don’t feel safe when I’m not with you."
She still ntioned the assassin, of course, she wouldn’t reveal the intelligence, she would make appropriate adjustnts to make the matter sound reasonable.
"Why would an assassin target you?"
Alia couldn’t understand.
"I don’t know either, but I have a guess in my heart."
"What’s your guess?"
"I’m wondering if it has sothing to do with the Carlisle family? Viscount Carlisle lost his daughter and couldn’t find the murderer, so he wants to take revenge on everyone who had conflicts with Soren Carlisle. But openly seeking revenge would inevitably invite criticism, so he chose to have an assassin act in secret."
Carlotta linked the matter to the Carlisle family, which sounded quite reasonable.
Hearing this, Alia couldn’t help but frowned. She had so understanding of that Viscount Carlisle, and in her impression, the Viscount was indeed sowhat petty. Could it really be the handiwork of this Viscount Carlisle?
If so, then Carlotta’s current situation was undoubtedly extrely dangerous.
"Miss White, how did you detect the existence of an assassin?"
Alia asked curiously.
Carlotta had already thought of a reason and said, "Miss Fenwick, have you forgotten that I major in card magic? I’ve made poison-detecting cards, and whenever I eat sothing, I use the poison-detecting cards to check for safety first. Once, I discovered that my food had been poisoned, so I think there’s a hidden assassin trying to kill ."
This was sothing that had never happened.
But Carlotta needed a reason. She couldn’t completely lie, nor could she tell the whole truth. Half-truths were necessary to make Alia believe her.
Carlotta cried, "These are actually just my own guesses. I’m not entirely sure if this is the case, but I dare not take the risk. I’m sorry, Miss Fenwick."
Alia really couldn’t tell if Carlotta was telling the truth or not. It felt sowhat true, but also sowhat unreal.
But since Carlotta had been shalessly following her all this ti, there must be a reason, right?
After so thought, Alia could only say, "Since it’s for safety reasons, then stay by my side for now. Also, I’ll have my guards check if anyone is following you."
"Thank you, Miss Fenwick."
Carlotta was overjoyed.
If the Sunset Rose assassin was secretly following her, it would be difficult to avoid being discovered by Alia’s guards. After all, Soren had just died, and the Fenwick family’s protection of Alia would undoubtedly be at its highest, enough to detect any followers.
Seeing Carlotta’s joyful expression, Alia believed her even more. Such joy couldn’t be faked.
Imdiately, Alia made a gesture, and a lady from the guards secretly protecting her appeared in front of her.
"There might be soone following us, keep an eye out."
"Yes, Miss Alia."
It didn’t take long for the expected audience to arrive, and the opera at the theater began as scheduled.
Alia watched the performance on stage, her blue eyes tinged with nostalgia.
As a child, one of the things that brought her the most joy was watching operas with her mother. She had always found this form of performance fascinating. Now, she could watch operas whenever she wanted... but her mother was no longer by her side.
Lost in thought, Alia seed to see a scene from her childhood.
"Mom, will you always watch operas with ?"
"Of course I can watch them with you now, but when you grow up, I won’t be able to."
"Why? Then I won’t grow up."
"Because when you grow up, there should be soone else by your side."
"Who?"
"I don’t know yet. That person is soone you’ll have to choose yourself."
As a child, Alia didn’t understand what her mother ant, but now she knew exactly what her mother’s gentle smile had implied.
Subconsciously, Alia glanced at Carlotta, then chuckled softly and looked away.
That person probably wasn’t Miss White. Although there were many rumors about them, they were just that, rumors. Their relationship wasn’t like that.
But... coming to the opera with Miss White seed much more fun than coming alone.
...
Carlotta and Alia spent the entire afternoon at the opera house, watching several performances.
By the ti they left the Rose Opera House, the clouds had turned golden, and the evening light bathed the imperial capital, making the bustling city seem draped in a radiant veil.
"Gurgle, gurgle."
Carlotta instinctively touched her stomach, then glanced at Alia beside her.
Alia looked back and smiled, "Hungry? Let’s find a nearby restaurant to eat."
"Sure, my treat," Carlotta quickly said.
The vast imperial capital was never short of restaurants. It didn’t take long for the two to spot several eateries along the street.
They chose a cozy-looking restaurant, sat down, and began ordering from the nu the waiter handed them.
Carlotta insisted on treating, and Alia didn’t refuse. She knew Carlotta wasn’t short on money, thanks to teaching so ladies and young won Elven Knight Path movents, Carlotta’s wallet was quite full.
After ordering, a refreshing drink was brought to them first.
It was an orange-colored juice called lemonade, made from a fruit unique to this world called the lemon fruit. It had a sweet and tangy flavor.
After taking a sip, Carlotta asked, "Miss Fenwick, when we get back to the academy, can I go to your dorm?"
"To my dorm, aning..."
"Can we sleep together?"
"Sleep together?"
"I an stay together, not necessarily in the sa bed."
Carlotta quickly explained, her face slightly flushing as she spoke.
Alia was initially startled, but after hearing Carlotta’s explanation, she couldn’t help but laugh. "Don’t you trust the academy’s security?"
She understood why Carlotta wanted to stay in her dorm.
Carlotta sighed, "I’ve never really trusted it. And you know the reason, Miss Fenwick."
Alia thought back to the incident when Carlotta had a direct confrontation with Soren. The academy hadn’t intervened at the ti, and if Alia hadn’t shown up, the outco could have been dire. Thinking of this, she could understand Carlotta’s concerns.
Upon reflection, Caerwyn Academy’s security wasn’t exactly foolproof.
Carlotta asked, "Miss Fenwick, does your family really trust the academy’s security so much? Aren’t your guards still not allowed inside the academy?"
She rembered Alia had ntioned this before, saying that once she entered the academy, her guards would wait outside.
Alia held her drink with both hands and said, "Actually, things are different now. Before, the guards would only stay outside, but after Soren’s death, they’ve been allowed to enter the academy for more thorough protection. The academy’s managent has tacitly agreed to this."
The assassination of Soren had caused quite a stir, and the safety of noble children had beco a much higher priority for many.
The academy didn’t want any noble children to encounter trouble on campus, so they naturally allowed their guards to enter for protection.
Carlotta said, "In that case, can I stay in your dorm? I can sleep on the couch."
The dorms for noble children were naturally different from those of ordinary students. They were much larger, with living rooms, studies, balconies, and more.
Seeing the hopeful look on Carlotta’s face, Alia didn’t hesitate and agreed with a smile.
’Miss White looks quite cute right now,’ Alia thought to herself.
Carlotta was naturally a sweet girl, and when she looked at soone with her big, sparkling eyes, even another girl would find it hard to refuse.
Of course, her agreent was also based on Carlotta’s safety. As a classmate on good terms, she couldn’t ignore the danger Carlotta might be facing.
"Thank you, Miss Fenwick," Carlotta said gratefully.
"No problem. It’s just a small favor between classmates," Alia replied with a smile.
She didn’t plan to make Carlotta sleep on the couch. Instead, she decided to tidy up the study for Carlotta to sleep in.
Besides the regular bedroom, her study also had a bed. She often slept there when she got tired from reading.
As they talked, their dinner arrived.
A at pie layered with pork.
Grilled salmon seasoned with various spices and sauces.
A thick stew made with egg yolks, at chunks, cabbage, and spinach.
And a bouncy fruit pudding, along with a few slices of waterlon.
Carlotta swallowed her saliva and imdiately picked up her fork and knife.
Both of them were quite satisfied with the al, the quality was far better than the cafeteria food.
After dinner, they took a carriage back to the academy and entered Alia’s dorm together.
Throughout this, Alia’s guards didn’t notice anyone following them, which left Carlotta slightly disappointed.
The assassin was more cautious than she had expected.
