Later, a friend from across the table saw Yvonne Lancaster diligently serving Claire Prescott tea and couldn’t help but ask, "Do you know each other?"

The person had been silent, seemingly becoming one with the air, unnoticed by anyone.

And at that mont, all eyes fell on Yvonne.

Among a group of strangers, she naturally wasn’t fazed.

Before Claire could speak, Yvonne jumped in, "Of course we know each other, we’re family friends."

Upon hearing ’family friends,’ the person on Yvonne’s other side changed their expression, eyes showing a bit of shock, "Family friends?"

Yvonne nodded, ready to speak, but Claire covered her mouth with her hand, "Shut up."

Yvonne widened her eyes, resting her head on Claire’s arm, looking sowhat innocent and confused.

Seeing her calm down, Claire explained, "So ti ago, soone in her family got sick, and I cured them; we’re not family friends, not even really friends."

The person still hadn’t fully recovered.

Yvonne had insisted on coming along in the afternoon, claiming she was friends with Claire, though Claire was quite resistant at the ti, eventually giving in reluctantly because of a superior’s relative.

She was afraid they would feel awkward upon hearing Yvonne’s identity, so she deliberately hid it, saying she was a cousin’s sister.

Having just heard they were family friends was sowhat shocking again.

To be family friends with the Lancasters, what an extraordinary status one must have.

At this mont.

Claire released Yvonne and looked at her over Yvonne’s shoulder, changing the subject, "Why did you start working at the Lancasters?"

"Internship during sumr break."

"Which departnt?"

"Secretarial departnt."

Another person sighed, "Getting an internship at the Lancaster Group is already impressive, their doors aren’t easy to open."

"We’re just like cattle, there’s no difference, people at the bottom have no choice."

"..."

Seeing the conversation finally shift, Claire gradually breathed a sigh of relief.

She didn’t want to ntion the Prescott Family in front of them, truly feeling like she only belonged at Sinclair Apothecary, and she didn’t want her background to alter how they viewed her.

Yvonne had noticed her expression and gesture just now, and quietly asked, "Do they not know about you?"

Claire did not respond.

Yvonne smiled, "Am I the one who knows you best among your friends?"

"..." Claire asked coolly, "Where did you learn that?"

"Learn what?"

"Self-delusion."

Under the light, her face shone with a pure glow, urging no one to stay mad at her, making Yvonne give up, sipping her drink sullenly.

The chef served all the dishes.

So regretted Zara Leighton hadn’t co, and as they ntioned it, a figure suddenly appeared at the doorway.

The celebrity wore a casual white T-shirt paired with an A-line skirt, appearing low-key before them.

The person facing the door imdiately saw her, "Here she cos."

As the words ca out, except for Claire, everyone’s gaze froze at the door.

Soone enthusiastically called out, "Just missing you, superstar."

Zara’s gaze landed straight on that pale green figure, she clenched her fists and walked toward it.

Then, she squeezed between Claire and Yvonne, facing Yvonne, speaking as a boss would, "Move over."

This person, she hadn’t seen, nor did she know.

She just wanted to sit next to Claire.

Yvonne was imdiately displeased, "Who are you? I want to sit next to Claire."

Seeing her refuse to budge, Zara decided not to cause a scene, helpless, she walked over to Iris Yates.

Before she could ask to move, Iris spoke steadily, "I’m a guest of honor today, is it appropriate to ask to make room?"

Actually, her relationship with Iris wasn’t good.

Because Zara used to constantly trouble Claire, Iris always looked down on her. Later, their relationship slowly ward, but it was lukewarm at best.

She knew, for this gathering tonight, Claire was definitely going to be there.

Afraid Claire would leave if she knew Zara was coming, she didn’t dare respond to ssages, rushing over after work.

Helpless, Zara had to go toward an empty seat, giving them sidelong glances.

Soone nearby tried to lighten the mood, "Since we’re all here, let’s eat."

At this mont.

Zara t Yvonne’s gaze and asked, "Who are you? Why haven’t I seen you before?"

Yvonne responded arrogantly, "I’m Claire’s new friend."

New friend.....

Zara silently scoffed, feeling as if she’d been benched, and Claire swiftly found new company.

The person sat quietly, though their deanor was relaxed, there was an underlying elegance and grace, like the bright moon.

No.

Like a master.

Soone on the left served her food, soone on the right poured her a drink.

But she didn’t drink the beverage Yvonne poured for her.

As conversations sparked, the subtle tension dissipated fast, and no one ntioned anything about their relationship.

So, throughout the al, Zara ate particularly frustrated.

And after dinner.

Claire headed to the bathroom, and Zara quietly followed, hoping to talk to her alone.

Zara leaned against the doorway, arms crossed, waiting for her to co out.

As their eyes t, Zara urgently said, "The Rivers Family and Thorne Family’s engagent has been called off, it was proposed by the Rivers Family."

Claire paused her step, quietly looking at the radiant face.

When nobody spoke, a cold layer seed to settle in the air.

Zara’s heart felt uneasy.

After a while.

Claire’s voice was cool, "Does it have anything to do with ?"

"Yes. It’s because of my situation with Milton Rivers that you’re ignoring , now that he’s single again, shouldn’t we go back to how things were, still best friends?"

Claire’s eyes shook slightly, afraid to et her gaze, sowhat ridiculing her plea for reconciliation.

Actually.

She knew about the Rivers Family breaking off the engagent, Keane Lowell told her.

Because of Shelby Thorne’s situation, the Rivers Family feared trouble, unwilling to form relations with such a Thorne Family, hence they actively proposed cancelling the engagent.

However, the Rivers Family was already seeking a new match for Milton.

Even without the Thorne Family, there will be other families stepping up, if Milton wants control over the Rivers Family, he must comply with their arrangents.

When love and career cannot coexist, Milton already gave up Zara once, would he decisively choose Zara next ti?

She was unsure.

But.

She now understood what loving soone felt like, why Zara insisted on Milton, even if it cost her dearly.

"Zara, I still hope you can love yourself a bit more, think more about your future."

Claire left these words, then stepped away.
