"I was given a few people to interview by the event company," Caspian chatted as he led the way up the grand stairs. "They were all overqualified but I was drawn to the only male Oga..."
"He’s currently in the office in the kitchen, I didn’t want to start anything without you."
Lake let Caspian drag him all the way, happy that the blonde Oga thought that highly of him to wait, however impatiently.
The kitchen slled heavenly when they walked in, and although Lake had already eaten breakfast, he had space for more.
Caspian’s secretary Patty was in the office with a plain-looking male Oga with a kind face, he was also pregnant.
"Quinn, this is my friend, Lake. Lake, Quinn, the wedding planner."
Technically it was an engagent party but Lake stepped forward to shake Quinn’s hand regardless, a polite smile on his face. "Nice to et you."
"The pleasure is all mine," When Quinn smiled, dimples popped up on his round cheeks, his belly visibly distended.
There was a tray with crackers and a glass jug of ginger tea on the table that he returned to after exchanging pleasantries. "Sorry," He muttered apologetically, gulping down a glass of tea. "Morning sickness."
Lake knew how uncomfortable feeling nauseous was so he was empathetic.
Despite constantly munching on sothing Quinn was incredibly professional. The venue was already prepared, Asher had a lot of hotels and event centers, so it was just a matter of picking one.
Lake barely had to do anything, he just sat back and let Katya pamper him with food. With two pregnant Ogas in the kitchen, the older cook was at her mother hen best.
Patty was just happy to be there while Caspian single-handedly made the choices, from the the to the nu, to the music... He occasionally turned to Lake for his opinion but Lake skillfully let him make the decision.
By lunchti, they decided to take a break. Lake and Quinn still sohow had an appetite for lunch even after munching the entire morning away.
"I’ll go get Asher and Davian," Caspian rose to his feet, leaving Lake behind in the kitchen.
"Do you get morning sickness?" Quinn turned to Lake eagerly, after spending hours together, the initial awkwardness was gone.
Patty had to get so ingredients for the kitchen so the secretary had been gone for a while now, leaving just the two of them.
"Fortunately, I don’t," Lake replied, "But I do get nauseous at the most random things, like fizz, and almond-scented body wash..."
He wisely left out blood, not wanting to ruin the warm and inviting atmosphere.
Quinn gasped, a hand over his mouth. His ring finger had a wedding band on it, the only jewelry he wore.
"That sounds so much worse, good gracious..."
"And I can’t get enough of chocolate-flavored desserts for so reason..."
It was easy to talk to Quinn, the Oga laughed softly and said all the right things, the mating mark on his neck a tender red.
"How did you et Caspian by the way?" Quinn asked, it was clear that he was just harmlessly curious.
Lake recalled the first ti he t Caspian and grimaced, that would only rattle the poor pregnant Oga. "We t at an event," He lied through his teeth.
Fortunately, he didn’t have to elaborate on that lie because Caspian returned. "They’re at the dining room, let’s join them." He inford them, standing at the doorway.
Just as Caspian said that, a worried Alpha peeked over his shoulder.
"I told you to wait in the dining roo- Asher! Why are you here too?"
Davian wasn’t listening, the worry lting off his face at the sight of Lake.
Lake gravitated to him without thinking much of it, Davian had gotten even more clingy after yesterday’s events, he was honestly impressed that the Alpha lasted this long.
"Did you get bored?" He asked softly, instinctively reaching for him.
Davian was supposed to be his assistant but seeing as he was no longer planning anything, he couldn’t just drag the Alpha along.
Davian caught his hand before he could pull it back, "No..." He muttered, biting back the rest of his sentence about how he missed Lake.
With so effort, Caspian got them all to move to the dining room for lunch before it got cold, Quinn in a daze the entire ti.
The pregnant Oga hadn’t once imagined that the mate of Caspian’s friend would be none other than Mafia King Davian.
It was difficult not to feel intimidated as he sat at the table, his appetite diminishing.
The Mafia Kings were so intimidating but Caspian and Lake treated them like any other person, it made Quinn respect them even more.
Fortunately, after dinner, the Alphas were sent off, much to their obvious disapproval. But at this point, there was barely anything planning left to be done, they just had to conclude and Quinn could get started.
He was really looking forward to this gig, not just because he would get to plan a Mafia King’s engagent party but also because there was no fixed budget, so he could get as creative as he wanted.
It was mid-afternoon when Quinn left, Lake leaving shortly after because there were things he needed to get done.
Asher was also starting to get irritable from having his mate kept from him all day, and Lake didn’t want to be around when he snapped.
Davian drove the car back to the mansion just like he did that morning, but Lake didn’t mind. Maybe it was all the snacking because he was nodding off on the drive back.
When they got back to the mansion, instead of working in Davian’s study, he grabbed the laptop and took it to the kitchen so he could keep the Alpha company while he prepared dinner.
After they had dinner, he stayed behind while Davian did the dishes, finishing up his work for the night as well.
Lake didn’t rember falling asleep, he had been fighting a losing battle ever since the drive back from Caspian’s place, it was a miracle he lasted this long.
Davian dried his hands as he ca over, Lake was fast asleep, his head pillowed on his arms, dark brown hair spilling over his laptop.
His chest hurt again, he could have lost everything.
Clearing up the counter and getting them both to bed was easy, and just like the night before, he gathered Lake into his arms before falling asleep.
