Percy was on a phone call inside the car. Seeing his son get in, he pointed to the seatbelt. Raymond promptly took the hint and buckled himself in.
Only then did Percy turn his expressionless face forward, looking at the road ahead, and continued listening to the call.
Whatever was said on the call caused Percy’s elegant eyebrows to slightly furrow, an expression of frustration appearing in his eyes, which soon turned calm again. With an air of nobility, Percy spoke into the phone, saying, “I had indeed agreed with you that if I couldn’t wait for Raymond’s mother to return after five years, I would go back to Ravenwood City and officially hold a press conference to assu the position of CEO of Thompson Empire Group. However, I have so matters to deal with now and need to stay in Bellshire for a while longer. I’m not sure exactly how long.”
Thompson Empire Group was the lifeline of the global economy, with branch offices all over the world, and its main company located in Chanaea’s Ravenwood City.
And Percy was the next heir to the Thompson Empire Group.
Initially, he ca to Bellshire to attend university at the age of fourteen, hiding his family background and abilities to experience the life of an ordinary person.
He truly was a genius, completing his four years of university coursework in just two and a half years. In less than four years, he also earned his Master’s, Doctorate degrees and, in a low-key fashion, a doctoral degree in managent from Harvard and a doctoral degree in economics from the Ivy League.
His life seed to be sailing smoothly, full of brilliance and splendor. However, on the night of his 20th Birthday, a surprising and terrifying gift arrived, completely changing his life.
For that gift was a baby, the current Raymond.
Having never slept with any woman, he fathered a son. Percy used all the resources of the Thompson Empire Group to search for Raymond’s mother, but ultimately found nothing. He had no choice but to stay in Bellshire and wait for Raymond’s mother to co looking for him.
However, five years passed, and Raymond’s mother never appeared.
Until now, no one in the entire Bellshire Business Circle knew of his origins, background, or identity. They only believed that he was a self-made successful man relying on his salary from the company he worked for.
“Alright, let’s leave it at that for now. When I have a definite tifra, I will call and let you know,” said Percy with a sowhat perfunctory tone. Upon finishing, he hung up the phone and started the engine of the car. He turned the steering wheel and pulled onto the main road.
Seeing that Percy had hung up, Raymond opened his beautiful big eyes, looking at his father, and worriedly asked, “Father, you just said that you waited five years and my mother still didn’t show up. Will she really never co back?”
Being reminded of Raymond’s mother’s situation ti and ti again, Percy felt sowhat depressed and didn’t respond to his son’s question.
Raymond had grown accustod to his father’s occasional disregard for him. He propped his chin in his small hand, looked out the window with a worried expression, and gave a long sigh. After a while, he couldn’t bear the silence and turned to look at Percy, who was concentrating on driving, and said, “Father, I think my mother really doesn’t want .”
Raymond was already five years old. Although he wasn’t as sensible as an adult, he had his own emotions. So, when he said that sentence, his face looked especially disheartened. He pouted and turned to look back out the window.
Nevertheless, he was still just a five-year-old child who managed to break free from the sadness of “having no mother” in just five minutes. Turning back to Percy, he asked, “Father, where is your mobile phone?”
