Kenneth Yates’s palm was cold. Holding his hand, Sumr Lancaster felt a little lost. ’Did I say sothing wrong?’ she wondered.

But Kenneth Yates’s mind was a whirlwind of thoughts. He rembered that year, when that innocent girl had said the sa thing to him...

"Kenneth, I want your heart. Are you willing to give it to ?" the young, innocent girl asked, hugging him gently from behind, her finger pointing to his chest.

Kenneth Yates turned and hugged her, a doting smile playing on his lips. "It’s yours. I’ll give you anything you want!!"

The girl giggled in his arms.

He didn’t know where that pure girl from back then was now. Kenneth Yates had never forgotten her. He wanted to find her and ask why she had left. But in the ti she was gone, he had fallen in love with soone else. ’Would she even want to see now?’

"Kenneth, what’s wrong? Are you not feeling well? Why is your hand so cold?" Sumr held back for a long ti but finally had to ask.

Kenneth Yates let go of her hand without looking at her. "Have Ronan Jenkins take you ho. Sothing’s co up." Without another word, he walked toward his car without a backward glance. Before Sumr could even react, the car was already far in the distance.

Sumr stood frozen on the spot. For the first ti since their relationship had started to improve, she felt like she was about to lose him. ’Who could I even tell about this bitterness in my heart? This hurts more than never having had him in the first place.’

Sumr walked along the path. She didn’t call Ronan Jenkins. She didn’t want to show her weakness to anyone, much less let them see her cry.

The streetlights cast a yellow glow. The road was empty of cars and pedestrians; she was a solitary figure walking all alone. Tears had long since blurred her vision. A car approached from up ahead, its headlights blindingly bright. Sumr shielded her eyes with her hand. When she looked up, she realized the path she was on didn’t lead back to the Veridian Community. She gave a bitter smile. ’Perhaps, subconsciously, I just didn’t want to face Kenneth’s coldness, so I ended up walking ho without thinking.’

After walking for a long ti, she finally arrived ho. The lights in the villa were still on; it seed her father was still awake. Right now, Sumr pinned all her hopes on him. ’Dad dotes on ,’ she thought. ’He’ll surely comfort , tell jokes, and make smile again.’

She pushed open the door to find her white-haired father sitting on the sofa, drinking tea. Tears welled up in Sumr’s eyes again. It seed that ever since she married Kenneth Yates, every ti she saw her father, he looked so much older.

"Dad!" Sumr called out as she walked in.

"Sumr, what are you doing back here?" Gregory Lancaster asked in surprise. ’Coming ho at this hour... Did she have a fight with Kenneth? My plan is all laid out. All I need is Kenneth’s investnt for it to be a success. Why would sothing like this happen at such a critical juncture? Without Sumr, Kenneth would never agree to invest.’

"Dad, don’t worry. I was just hosick and wanted to co see you." Facing her father’s concern, Sumr forced a smile.

"Ah, that’s good! Quick, sit down. What happened to your feet?" ’As long as her relationship with Kenneth isn’t broken, it’s nothing serious,’ he thought.

"Ah... the taxi broke down, so I had to walk. My heels were killing , so I took them off!" Sumr’s eyes darted about as she explained, her words halting as she glossed over the truth. She quietly tossed the heels she was holding to the side and sat down barefoot on the sofa.
