Sumr Lancaster didn’t have much to do that morning. The preparations for the jewelry exhibition were in their final stages, and it was set to begin as soon as Kenneth Yates returned.

Sumr Lancaster held her phone, conflicted. She keyed in his number, only to delete it again. In the end, she set the phone down, leaned back in her chair, and closed her eyes to rest.

"Director Lancaster, you’re needed at the exhibition hall," her secretary said, knocking on the door.

"Alright, I’ll be right there." Sumr stood and smoothed the wrinkles from her clothes.

Inside the exhibition hall, most of the jewelry was already on display. Only a small selection of the most valuable pieces had yet to be set out. The main display platform, however, was still empty. It was said that this was per President Yates’s instructions; no jewelry was to be placed there.

The staff mbers were frustrated. The main display platform was large, and setting it up on the day of the exhibition would be incredibly ti-consuming, but no one dared to question the president. So, they called the directors over, hoping one of them might know what was planned for the space so the employees could prepare in advance.

"Director Lancaster, do you know what’s supposed to go here?"

"I’m sorry, I don’t know what President Yates has planned either. Let’s leave it for now, just make sure there’s enough space." She truly didn’t know what Kenneth Yates had arranged, but she knew that if he’d given the order, he must have had his reasons. Just then, Serena Monroe and Reina West arrived, one after the other.

"How did you end up arriving with her? Didn’t break out into a fight, did you?" Sumr leaned close to Serena Monroe and said.

"Almost," Serena Monroe said, glaring angrily at Reina West. "I ran into her coming out of the restroom. I stuck my leg out to trip her."

"Then what are you so angry about?"

"She stepped on my foot! Look, it’s all swollen."

"You really should try to provoke her less," Sumr said, suppressing a laugh. Just then, Reina West walked over to Sumr. "President Yates is on a business trip. That doesn’t an it’s your turn to run this company, does it?"

"Director West, why don’t you take charge then?" ’It’s not like I wanted to deal with this ss anyway,’ Sumr thought.

"Hmph." Reina West began ordering the staff around, telling them where to place the jewelry. Now free, Sumr Lancaster and Serena Monroe sat to one side, drinking coffee.

"Sumr, I just noticed your ring. It’s very unique."

"The big boss designed it himself."

Serena Monroe took a sip of coffee. "You two are moving so fast. You’re going to blind us single people."

"Stop kidding. I was shocked too when he gave it to ."

"What do you think Reina West’s reaction would be if she found out?"

"She’d probably co over and strangle ," Sumr said, watching Reina West throwing her weight around in the distance.

"Sumr, get over here and take a look at this," Reina West shouted.

"Well, back to work."

A display platform needed to be placed up high, and Sumr stood to the side, supervising. A short distance away, a sinister smile spread across Reina West’s face.

CRASH! No one expected the display platform to fall. All the equipnt had undergone precise calibration; it shouldn’t have failed—unless soone had tampered with it.

Sumr cried out, clutching her shoulder as she crumpled to the ground. The display platform had smashed right into her. For a mont, her mind went blank with dizziness.

"Sumr!" Serena Monroe cried, rushing over to help her.

"Director Lancaster!" The employee who had been helping was scared stiff. It looked like the display platform had been tampered with; its surface was unnaturally smooth, and it had slid off with the slightest movent.

"Sumr, stay with ! Sobody call an ambulance!"

"That won’t be necessary. I’ll take Director Lancaster to the hospital." Without anyone noticing, Zane Fletcher had arrived. He scooped Sumr into his arms and rushed her to the hospital.

Zane Fletcher had been watching over Sumr the whole ti. Before he left, Kenneth Yates had tasked him with protecting her. Now that this had happened, he was overco with guilt.
