"A lot of people saw you two co in together today!" Serena circled around to face her, leaning in close.

"Yeah!"

"So? Why did you co in together? Is President Yates pursuing you, or is it... *that* kind of relationship?" Serena watched her with a mischievous look.

"We’re married!" Sumr Lancaster finally caved. She knew what kind of person Serena was—a bit of an airhead, but a loyal friend.

"What? Married?!" Serena leaped to her feet, shouting at the top of her lungs. Sumr shot up from her chair and clamped a hand over her mouth.

"Shh."

"Mmph, okay! Just take your hand away!" Sumr removed her hand. Serena panted heavily, taking a long mont to calm herself down.

"A flash marriage? I’ve never even seen you two interact."

"We got married two years ago."

"Then why doesn’t anyone know?"

"We’ve been separated!" Sumr said, giving her a look like a long-suffering wife. ’This feels just like a police interrogation.’

"Separated? President Yates... is he... you know... unable to perform?" Serena asked with a look of profound sympathy.

"What are you talking about? You have such a wild imagination." Sumr gave a wry smile. ’If Kenneth Yates heard that, I guarantee Serena would disappear within five seconds.’

"Wait, that’s not right. President Yates has had endless scandals these past two years. Doesn’t that make you a rich man’s abandoned wife?"

"Yes, yes, I’m the rich man’s abandoned wife!" Sumr looked at her with resignation. Those words had struck a nerve.

"Sumr, don’t worry! Channel that workhorse spirit of yours and seduce President Yates! He’ll be worshiping the ground you walk on! You can do it!" she said, making dramatic gestures to match her words.

"Yes, yes, I shall heed your wise counsel."

"It’s ten o’clock. I’m off to my eting. And don’t worry, I won’t tell a soul."

"What eting?"

"Sales statistics."

"Ah!" Sumr smacked her forehead. She was supposed to be there too. Her morning had been so muddled she’d completely forgotten.

"I’ll go with you. I have to be at that eting too!" Sumr got up wearily and walked toward the conference room with Serena.

"You know, when Reina West heard you ca in with President Yates *again* today, she nearly exploded. All her subordinates have been catching hell this morning. It makes so happy just thinking about it. Soone really needs to take her down a peg."

"Hush, she’ll be here any minute." The conference room was empty when they arrived, so they made two cups of coffee and sat down to wait. Before long, Reina West strode in on her skyscraper heels. Serena silently prayed for her to twist an ankle. ’She wears shoes that high every single day. It just makes everyone else look short!’

Reina West deliberately sat in the seat next to Sumr. Serena, who was beside her, couldn’t stand for it. "Director West, your seat is over there."

Reina West, wanting to speak to Serena on the other side of Sumr, lightly nudged a file folder in front of her. The folder tipped over Sumr’s coffee cup. Sumr shot to her feet, but not before a large amount of coffee had spilled onto her skirt.

"Reina West, you did that on purpose!" Serena said, fuming. Reina stood up, crossed her arms, and stared at Serena.

"So what if it was on purpose? The whole company knows what kind of person she is. I just can’t stand to see soone brazenly seducing President Yates in public and thought I’d teach her a little lesson," she said, stroking her fresh set of acrylic nails.

"You—" Sumr grabbed Serena’s hand, stopping her from lunging at Reina.

"This is the office. Don’t make a scene!" At Sumr’s words, Serena lowered her hand.

"Hmph."

Just then, Kenneth Yates walked in with a group of senior executives. He saw the stain on Sumr’s skirt and his brow furrowed. "What happened?"

"Director West accidentally knocked over my coffee," she answered truthfully. Sumr Lancaster was no saint; she wasn’t about to cover for soone who had deliberately wronged her.

"Go to the restroom and clean yourself up." With that, Kenneth Yates walked past her and took his seat at the head of the table. This was the office. No one knew about their relationship, so he couldn’t show too much concern. Sumr bowed to the other executives and left the conference room.
