Despite Xia Yumo having no significant family background or wealth, she had still grown up amidst envious gazes.
Yet, for the first ti, she saw pity in the eyes of others looking at her, the kind of pity that stemd from her physical disability.
She lowered her eyes, not knowing whether she should cry or laugh at the situation.
She looked up, her gaze fell on the gentleman who had just spoken up for her.
He wore a gray suit, with a pair of rimless glasses on the bridge of his nose, appearing both refined and handso.
She subconsciously started comparing him to Gu Junhang.
He was good-looking, with a much gentler expression in his eyes and brows than Gu Junhang.
In comparison, Gu Junhang’s deanor was even colder.
Upon realizing that she had involuntarily started comparing the two n, she couldn’t help but smile wryly in her heart.
When the man saw Xia Yumo looking at him, his face montarily froze. Then, he politely nodded at her.
Xia Yumo responded with a grateful smile before turning her gaze away, not engaging in any further interaction.
At first, she had indeed felt upset about the taunts from the two girls earlier, but had soon let it pass.
Her inability to walk was a fact, and she would surely face similar situations in the future. If she were to fuss over each one, she would only end up hurting herself in the end.
When the elevator reached the first floor, the two girls who had laughed at her hurriedly squeezed out, quickly disappearing from everyone’s sight.
Only after everyone else had left the elevator one after another, did Xia Yumo finally push her wheelchair out.
Unexpectedly, the wheel of the wheelchair got caught in the elevator door track, and no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t move it.
At that mont, soone gently held the wheelchair, slightly adjusting its position, and helped push it out.
Xia Yumo turned around and saw the man who had stood up for her in the elevator earlier.
She thought everyone had already left the elevator and hadn’t noticed him standing behind her.
"Having trouble walking isn’t such a heinous thing, you can always ask for help,"
He said, looking at her with a gentle smile, his voice soothing like a spring breeze.
He didn’t avoid talking about Xia Yumo’s legs, unlike so people who might, out of good intentions, deliberately avoid discussing her disability in order not to hurt her pride.
As the man spoke, he seed very relaxed, as if to him, Xia Yumo’s inability to walk was just like a small scratch on her foot, a trivial matter.
This didn’t make Xia Yumo feel disrespected. In fact, it gave her a sense of being treated as an equal.
Listening to his words, she gratefully smiled at him, "Thank you."
"You’re welco,"
His hand was still on Xia Yumo’s wheelchair handle, as he asked:
"Do you need to help push you outside the building?"
Xia Yumo laughed and shook her head, "No need, it’s very convenient here. My driver is just outside, so I won’t waste any more of your ti."
Seeing her refusal, the man didn’t insist. He nodded and left.
For Xia Yumo, this brief interlude was quickly behind her, as she pushed her wheelchair outside on her own.
When Qiao Xu received Xia Yumo’s call, he was just about to get off work.
Upon listening to her talk about inviting so colleagues from the firm to hang out, and asking whether he wanted to join them, Qiao Xu didn’t hesitate and imdiately agreed.
"Wait for , I’ll pack up and co over right away."
Qiao Xu, holding his mobile phone in one hand and an unfinished cup of coffee in the other, walked out of his office.
