Aric’s smile deepened as he heard the baron. He leaned back into his chair and spoke, "You are a joke." He said in a calm voice, and then glanced at his people. "Take them down," he said in a calm voice.
Imdiately, Ariel, Pentharis, and Elisa moved. Ariel and Elisa seed personally engaged by the situation. Elisa might not have been engaged in combat for a while, but she was still an adventurer and a noble, and with the ti she spent with Aric farming, her physical and ntal skills had risen already.
She moved from behind Aric with a swiftness that the n could barely follow, her hands stretching out toward one of the n. What followed was a blast of wind so powerful it slamd two n into the wall with so much force that they couldn’t get back up.
Ariel, on the other hand, collected a makeshift sword from Pentharis right at that mont. The sword got engulfed in her flas. She attacked with ferocity, not regarding the lives of the n at all. She sent them flying into walls with deep wounds through their armors and on their bodies.
Pentharis, on the other hand, couldn’t be bothered to get aggressive. All the n were wearing tal, and that was the first aspect of their downfall. He manipulated the tal of their armor and used it to crush the n until they passed out.
In less than a few minutes, they took down the twelve that were there, so heavily injured, while so unconscious.
The baron watched in shock. He knew that Aric would be able to take down these n, but he at least thought the n would buy him enough ti to get out of here.
Aric sat there with his arms folded, his eyes cold as the night. His breathing could be heard piercing through the air, his entire aura had shifted into one extrely cold.
"Wait, wait, Sir Aric, let’s not be hasty now. You know the stakes are against you now. Even if you jump at and kill now, the people that helped break the contract already know about you.
They’ll co for you, they’ll bring the army of kingdoms. They won’t just co find you, they’ll co to completely take over, and have you for themselves.
I am the only one that can sway them and make sure that they don’t get to you. You can’t kill ," the baron said, trying to swindle his way past death.
"Allow to take his head off already," Ariel said. She gripped the blade tighter.
"Not yet. The baron does make a good point. The situation of our village now is very vulnerable, and those people will most definitely co for us," Aric said.
"You want to trust him? You can’t," Elisa said.
"Who said anything about trusting him? I only said what he said was true, but I didn’t say I cared even if it was true. I’m still going to kill him," Aric said.
Fear took form on the baron’s face, realizing that Aric was not going to allow him to walk away from this, but that fear only lasted a few seconds, as what followed was a maniacal laughter.
The baron suddenly pulled out a talisman filled with rune inscriptions. He poured his mana into it and it imdiately started to glow.
"Shit, everyone run," Aric said. He jumped off the chair and charged at the door, and so did all of them. The baron continued laughing even as the talisman was about to be fully charged.
The talisman exploded—an explosion so massive that its sound traveled for kiloters. The entire office was blown to bits, the hallway, the walls, all of it, destroyed.
"Can’t believe he killed himself," Elisa said, staring at the destruction in front of them.
"He isn’t dead," Aric said. He turned and headed down the stairs. "He had two talismans with him. One was definitely for protection. The baron loves his life too much to risk it.
Right now we have no leverage and will have to fight out everything. His family isn’t here, so we can’t take anyone hostage. More n are probably waiting for us downstairs, so the fight continues," Aric spoke casually, like none of it bothered him.
When he got down the stairs, he saw over a hundred n already waiting for him, all of them ard to the teeth, as if waiting for war.
Aric could tell that all these n were not trained militants or knights, so they were probably rcenaries that the baron hired.
Imdiately the n saw Aric and his group, they took that as their cue to attack. They charged all at the sa ti. Aric slamd his feet on the ground, and through the wooden floors of the house, earth spikes shot out, impaling a dozen of them in one attack.
He stared at their bodies without any emotions in him. He didn’t care in the slightest for those that tried to harm him or his family, so he couldn’t hold any emotions for them.
Seeing such a brutal attack take down a dozen in one go, so of the rcenaries imdiately retreated, while so charged forward.
Ariel charged in, her feet barely touching the ground as she ran. Her hands moved swiftly, and her blade imdiately started chopping them down.
Elisa refused to be outdone as well, and she started firing wind blades, taking down the rcenaries one after the other.
Pentharis decided to sit this one down, because even with a hundred n, getting through was already impossible. He didn’t need to bother.
And that was true because Aric kept supporting Elisa and Ariel. Any rcenary that slipped through their attacks would instantly be killed by an earth spike.
Aric made sure to keep his notifications on mute, because he knew that a lot of them would be coming in right at this mont, and he didn’t want to be too distracted until they were in the clear, far from this town.
