After a few minutes, the guard rushed back out. He opened the gate for Aric and allowed them in. "The baron is waiting just beyond the door," he spoke in a respectful tone.
Aric and the others headed to the door, and when they were halfway through, he stopped, his head facing forward, and then he spoke. "When we get in there, no matter what happens, make sure you listen to ," he said and kept walking.
They got to the door and it was imdiately opened from the inside. The baron stood there with a smile on his face, waiting to welco Aric.
"Sir Aric, it’s good to see you in my village. I didn’t expect you to co so soon," the baron said. He smiled, seemingly happy that Aric was here.
Aric gave a small smirk. He walked up to the baron, passing the maids and guards that stood at the side. He shook the baron’s hand and then spoke.
"Let’s get to business already, I have little ti to be here," Aric said in a calm voice.
"Oh yeah, definitely, let’s go," the baron said eagerly. He led Aric up the stairs, getting to his office. He walked in and Aric followed behind. The soft sll of flowers mixed with polished wood wafted into his nose as soon as he entered the office.
The dark brown wooden table sat on a beautiful fur carpet, with two chairs at the other side and a couch at the side of the office along with a coffee table.
At the other side of the room stood a small bookshelf, housing a few important books and docunts.
The baron made his way to his chair imdiately, while Aric took a seat on one of the chairs. The other four stood behind him, not even trying to sit down.
The air imdiately beca tense after Aric sat down. He stared at the baron with a cold glance, his eyes holding a very cold glint.
)
The baron wasn’t sure what was happening. He let out a nervous chuckle, trying to seem like he wasn’t pressured by Aric.
"When did you do it?" Aric suddenly asked. The baron looked at him, confused. He didn’t know what Aric was talking about, or so he wanted them to believe.
"You know what I am talking about, Baron Fredrick. You tried to play , typical," Aric said. He leaned back into his chair, his gaze still locked on the baron.
"When I walked to your house, I had a strange feeling. I could sense a lot of people hidden at unusual angles of the house. I knew imdiately that sothing was wrong.
You played . You had soone remove the contract sohow. You sold the information of , right?" Aric asked.
When the baron heard those words, his eyes widened in disbelief. He stared at Aric, not sure of what to say. He opened his mouth to speak, but nothing ca out.
Aric had discovered what his plan was when the system suddenly gave him a mission before entering the baron’s house.
[Survive the double crossing: your acquaintance has decided to use you. Survive.]
[Rewards: Unknown]
[Penalty: Unknown]
It was a mission that ca at the perfect ti and allowed him to know that the baron had sohow broken the deal.
"Ha ha ha ha."
The baron suddenly started laughing, his mouth opened wide as he laughed like a crazed man. He laughed for a few seconds and then looked at Aric.
"You really thought a human was going to accept a deal with you? A half-elf?
You are the worst type of abomination to exist. There is nothing that will make work with you. Everything you have, all of it belongs to us, and we will have it even if you try to stop us," the baron spoke, his tone as prideful as it could get. The glow of greed in his eyes shined bright.
"I guess I pushed my luck far too much to expect to work with humans so early. After everything that you humans have done, how you treated and all.
I carried all that pain and resentnt, buried it and decided to work with you, yet you decided to stab in the back," Aric responded.
"Is that so? It doesn’t matter though. You are nothing to us," the baron said, his smile getting wider with every passing second. His finger drumd against the table in a repeated fashion.
"You should also know that I had prepared for your coming the mont you stepped into this town. A guard notified about you imdiately you ca.
I was already set to win. You might have had the upper hand in your ho, but now this is my territory," the baron said and then stood up, staring at the group.
Ariel bit her lips. She clenched her fists in anger the more she listened to this baron. She wished she could bash his face right at this mont, but she recalled what Aric had told them right before they got in.
"Baron Fredrick, I don’t know how you got out of the contract we had, but it doesn’t matter. What matters now is the fact that you crossed a line threatening , threatening my ho. I won’t allow that, not now, not ever," Aric said, still comfortably seated in his chair.
He watched the baron closely to see if the baron would do anything. The baron smiled and suddenly the door of the office was kicked open, with n in armor rushing in and surrounding Aric and the others, their swords drawn and pointed at them.
Aric looked at this scene and couldn’t help but chuckle. He counted all the n while still sitting down.
"Twelve n? Is that what you really think would be enough to take us all down?" he asked.
"Not at all. I know your strength, and I have prepared for this entire building and compound to be filled with the best of my n, waiting to kill you imdiately. You are over, half-elf."
