Chapter 26: Ice coffin (1)
The table was being arranged by the new maid. Zaiyila rely observed her; she didn't speak, but her gaze alone said everything as the maid moved up and down, organizing the table.
Everett's attention was solemnly fixed on Zaiyila, and he could already guess what was running through her mind. He couldn't help but smile.
"Co," he called softly.
Zaiyila imdiately stood up and sat on his lap.
"You'll feed ?" she asked, blinking twice.
"As my Queen wishes," Everett responded and began feeding her.
The maid, now done setting the table, glanced at the couple briefly before quietly leaving.
Everett continued feeding Zaiyila until his phone suddenly started ringing. His brows furrowed slightly, but without moving from where he was, he answered the call on speaker.
"Boss, there's an important eting that needs your presence right now!" a male voice announced.
"I'm busy," Everett replied without hesitation.
Zaiyila swallowed the food in her mouth and spoke up.
"He's not. He will arrive soon," she interjected.
There was a brief silence on the other end.
"B... Boss," the voice stamred.
"Get lost!" Everett snapped, and the call was abruptly disconnected.
"You—"
Before Zaiyila could begin lecturing him, Everett quickly cut in.
"Alright, alright, I won't slack off. But can I go after you're full?" he asked.
Zaiyila nodded and continued eating, clearly in a good mood.
"By the ti you co out, it'll be night already, right? Then..." She chuckled.
"What is it?" Everett asked curiously.
"You're handso," Zaiyila replied, kissing his cheek.
. . .
Zaiyila was now alone in the living room.
"Without him around, everything is really boring," she muttered and went into the room. "I might as well just do my assignnt."
She began preparing to work, but in the middle of it, the door was knocked twice.
She hesitated briefly before walking over and opening it. There stood the maid, staring at her.
Her expression turned cold—sothing she herself didn't even notice—as she looked at the maid.
"Yes?" she questioned.
The maid remained silent for a mont before finally speaking.
"My Queen, I would like to show you sothing," she announced.
Zaiyila raised a brow. "Is she also a snake?" she wondered. "What do you want to show ?" she asked, her tone suspicious.
"I would prefer if the Queen followed ," the maid replied politely.
Zaiyila stared at her a mont longer before rolling her eyes. "Forget it. I'm not interested," she stated and was about to close the door, but the maid quickly stopped her.
"My Queen, it's related to the King. Unless you don't care about him, that would be the only reason you wouldn't follow ," she remarked calmly.
Zaiyila's brows knitted, and she glanced at the maid again.
"Fine. I'll follow you," she agreed and closed the door.
A few seconds later, she stepped out, now dressed appropriately. "Let's go," she said.
"Yes, my Queen," the maid bowed and led the way.
. . .
It was getting darker. Zaiyila and the maid were now inside a strange-looking cave as the maid continued leading her further in.
"Where exactly are you taking to?" Zaiyila asked, hugging herself from the cold.
"Please be calm, Your Majesty. Follow ," the maid replied.
They walked until they reached an ice coffin. The maid stepped aside, letting Zaiyila stand in front of it.
Zaiyila's brows furrowed, and she looked at the maid with a questioning gaze.
"What's this?" she asked, confused.
"My Queen, please look at the coffin closely," the maid instructed.
Zaiyila did as she was told, but nothing seed special.
"I can't—" she began, but her vision suddenly turned blurry, and she gripped the coffin for support.
As soon as she made contact, the coffin trembled slightly, and a crack ford on its surface.
The maid's eyes widened with joy, her calm face overtaken by excitent.
"Finally," she murmured under her breath, her face glowing with anticipation.
Zaiyila felt an overwhelming dizziness; her vision remained unclear.
"What's... going... on?" she stamred, dropping to her knees as weakness overca her.
The maid's attention was solely fixed on the coffin. She completely ignored Zaiyila.
"Go on! Break!" she muttered excitedly.
Zaiyila's eyes slowly closed, and she fell unconscious, her hand slipping away from the coffin.
"Ah!" the maid gasped, seeing Zaiyila collapse.
"Get—" She stopped mid-sentence when her gaze returned to the coffin, where the crack was already sealing shut.
"She's still a virgin!" the maid scread, raking her fingers through her hair in frustration.
"How co she's still a virgin?" she growled, biting her lower lip and approaching Zaiyila.
"Since she is... that's good too. Another thod is available, but it's risky and the success rate is nearly zero," she muttered.
"I can give it a try," she whispered and bent down to lift Zaiyila—only to suddenly freeze in place.
"What... what's going on?" she asked, trying to move but failing.
Suddenly, a large shadow lood over both her and Zaiyila.
The maid began to tremble.
"How... how are her guardians are still alive?" she scread inwardly, tears welling in her eyes.
"You are quite bold, Curia. You dare to entertain such a mad idea against our Queen!" voices echoed from every direction, indistinguishable in gender or age.
"No... that's not true. I was... I was just trying to help her rember sothing, that's all! I was only trying to help," Curia stamred in terror.
"Who do you think you're trying to fool?" the voices mocked. "In the entire Python Clan, who doesn't know that whoever opens the Sacred Coffin will not only gain the power to kill the Queen but also beco master of the coffin? In her weak state, you dared try sothing foolish—taking advantage of her vulnerability," they sneered.
"I didn't... no... I did not..." she whimpered.
"It's fine. Thanks for bringing her here. We were having trouble reaching her. You may die in peace now," the voices concluded.
"No... no!" Curia scread, but the shadow was unmoved. It devoured her completely, leaving only her hair behind.
Right after consuming Curia, the shadow entered Zaiyila's body. She was lifted gently into the air and placed atop the coffin.
