Dr. Cred was sitting behind his desk when he heard a knock at his door. He paused, and hesitation clear on his expression. But then he dismissed the thoughts, allowing whoever was outside.
"Yes, please co in!" he said, and when he saw the nurse pushing the door open, he heaved a sigh of relief. His small, usual smile curled his lips as he asked, "What happened? Is there sothing?"
The nurse stepped in and bowed lightly in respect before saying, "Dr. Cred, that —"
But before she could complete her words, Jason stepped forward to help her.
"Dr. Cred, good afternoon. I hope I am not disturbing you."
"D–Dr. Clark," he greeted, but his surprise was evident on his face. "You are here already?"
Jason smiled casually. "You look surprised, Dr. Cred. I thought you were already expecting . Or did you forget about our appointnt?"
Dr. Cred quickly shook his head. "Of course not, how could I forget?" he laughed dismissing that audacious thought. "But I am surprised seeing you seeing here because I thought to receive your call first. I would have loved to co out to receive you."
Jason didn't show any haste. He just darted his gaze at the nurse who was still standing there. And Dr. Cred understood what he ant. He quickly said, dismissing the nurse from there.
"You can leave first, Carla."
The nurse felt jolted awake. Feeling embarrassed slightly, she said, "Oh, I am sorry Dr. Cred. I will leave first." With that, she turned to Jason, ready to leave. She didn't expect him to say anything to her, but her steps halted when she heard him.
"Thank you, Carla."
She couldn't hold herself back from blushing. Giving a polite nod, she quickly left. Once she was gone and only Dr. Cred and Jason remained in the room, Jason turned to the old dean and said.
"Dr. Cred, I had no intention to surprise you. But seed like you were very busy to take my calls, so I had no other way than to surprise you like this."
His words might have sounded casual, but the aning behind them was atrocious, the weight of which Dr. Cred wasn't capable of bearing. So, he quickly explained himself. "Sorry if it seed like my ignorance, Dr. Clark. I truly didn't an it. I left my phone back in the room while I went to make the rounds in the hospital. Maybe you called at that ti and I missed answering it."
Jason stared at him, his gaze studying the old man minutely as if truly considering his words. Under his gaze like that, Dr. Cred felt breaking into a cold sweat. He thought his life and career were at stake and if his lies were caught, he was gone.
But little did he know that Jason had long seen through his facade. It was just that he was not in the mood to reveal it and ruin his own plans. Hence, he didn't mind supporting him a little more.
"If that's what Dr. Cred says, how could I doubt?" Jason said, curling his lips smoothly, making the old doctor heave a sigh of relief. "After all, being the Dean of one of the oldest hospitals, you must have a lot of responsibilities. How can I be ignorant to not consider them."
Dr. Cred felt better. Nodding, he quickly said, "Of course. There is a lot to do."
Jason nodded in reciprocation, then without giving any chance to continue further, he said, "I understand all that, Dr. Cred, but I expect the sa understanding from you as well. So, shall we?"
Dr. Cred at once realized what he ant. He had thought at the beginning that he would be able to avoid it, but suddenly he realized that Dr. Clark hadn't left him a way out. In the end, nodding, he welcod. "Yes, Dr. Clark. Please take the seat," he offered, and pasting an amiable smile, Jason nodded.
"Dr. Cred, I have told you that I wanted to know about Oblivion-X, I hope you rember that."
Once again at the ntion of that taboo drug, Dr. Cred hesitated, but keeping his best composure, he nodded. "Yes, Dr. Clark, I rember. But I truly don't understand why are you suddenly trying to dig about a drug that was infamously banned and removed from the books of the dical history."
Jason's expression shifted a little into sothing that was hard to read. Dr. Cred tried his best to read his thoughts, but no matter how he tried to it was as if the young doctor's ideas seed unfathomable.
After a while, Jason deadpanned, "How are you so sure that the traces of the drug were completely wiped off from the dical history, Dr. Cred?"
Dr. Cred was taken aback for a mont. His brows tugged in a frown as he asked, "What do you an, Dr. Clark?"
"I an nothing deeper than what my words projected, Dr. Cred. You don't have to get offended in any way," Jason said, keeping his calm even if Dr. Cred seed to be losing his. "After all, the research of Oblivion-X had nothing to do with you. I know it was the team of the dical researchers of your hospital and today, I am just here to get the information about them. It would be great if you could help ."
Dr. Cred paused for a mont as if considering the advantage and the disadvantage of the situation. After a mont of thought, he seed to have decided.
"'Dr. Clark, I truly respect your expertise and value it too, but you know I am the dean of this hospital. Even though I personally want to help you out, I don't think my position at the hospital allows to do so. I hope you don't bla for refusing your request." He had deliberately put it in a way that delivered his helplessness in the situation.
Jason stared at the man before slowly leaning forward to the desk, his arms stretching halfway, locking the fingers together. "Are you sure, Dr. Cred that you don't want to reconsider it?"
