22: Chapter 22: Deterrence 22: Chapter 22: Deterrence The skeletons were swarming over him, pressing the rcenary corps leader down under their hard ribs.

Just by watching, one could sense the incredible force pressing down on him, and his struggle to breathe.

He had only swung his weapon twice before losing the strength to fight back.

This was completely unexpected.

After all, these were just skeleton monsters!

The rcenary corps leader was shocked.

To him, these were just skeleton monsters, but he rembered that the level of the summoned skeleton monsters depended on the strength of the summoning mage!

In the past, the highest level mage he had encountered was only a third-tier one, like the little girl writhing on the ground at this mont.

A third-tier mage and a sixth-tier mage will summon completely different varieties of undead skeletons.

In the forr case, he could easily smash those monsters with the great sword in his hand, while the latter…was exactly what he was experiencing now.

Were it not for Violet’s intervention, he would already have been hacked to pulp by these skeletons, without a chance to reflect on what was happening.

…Why were these skeletons able to rise unhard after enduring his full-strength attack?

Even when they were wounded, the marks were only insignificant scratches on their ribs.

His attack had not even been able to break a single rib of these skeletons!

His exposed head was like a walnut, that the armored skeleton squatting in front of him repeatedly hamred away at.

How could such a one-sided beating happen to him?!

Even at this point, he still couldn’t figure out what went wrong.

He watched in horror as the squatting skeleton clenched its fist and repeatedly pumled his face.

It wasn’t that he didn’t want to resist, but he was unable to even move his hands.

He was at the monster’s rcy, helpless against whatever it planned to do.

After a few punches, his face was a canvas of purple and blue bruises, and he had lost several teeth.

Violet stood behind him with her arms crossed, expressionless as she watched the skeletons beat him up, his face slowly swelling and turning purple.

Even after witnessing countless brutal deaths, this degree of violence failed to evoke any emotion within her.

On the contrary, she felt an unusual discomfort.

This man seed to serve no purpose alive.

It would be simpler to end him right here…

“You…you…bastard.”

Just as Violet was considering this and indeed planning on it, the corps leader, who was being continuously pumled by the skeleton monster, managed to murmur a curse.

However, his curse was futile, because no matter what he said, Violet wouldn’t halt the beatdown.

Instead, it only hastened another certainty – Violet’s growing contempt for him.

Since keeping this man alive served no purpose…

It wouldn’t matter if she had him killed right here.

She didn’t act imdiately as she was cautious of another concern – the surrounding rcenaries might take up their weapons against her.

But judging by the current situation, it seed like Violet was overthinking.

The rcenaries did not put up the fierce resistance she had anticipated.

In her hands, she still held the Frostbite Skill card, ready to use it against them.

As matters stood, she began to cautiously consider another issue – how to explain all that had happened outside to the rcenaries here.

Those who had been killed might have been their comrades a few days ago, and now…

The more she thought about it, the deeper Violet’s frown, the more frustrated she felt.

It would be better to kill all who disobeyed!

After all, these skeleton monsters would always faithfully carry out her orders.

If the rcenaries held a grudge against her for this and tried to kill her in return, wouldn’t sparing their lives now cause a huge problem for her later?

Imdiately afterwards, she sighed in frustration, lightly slapped her forehead, and thought to herself, ‘I can’t leave any lingering issues.

I should finish him off right now.’

But before killing him, he had so value left.

As Violet thought this, her gaze turned to the rcenaries seated on the ground.

This was a test.

Violet had made herself clear.

If they chose to stand by their old leader and revolt, they would, without doubt, be added to Violet’s kill list.

But these rcenaries weren’t idiots; they knew their own positions.

They looked hesitant, because obviously, Violet’s intention was not to kill everyone here.

Her actions suggested she was more interested in recruiting them.

In the world of rcenaries, there’s an unwritten rule: serving a stronger leader brings more benefits.

Many among them had followed their current unfortunate leader with this thought in mind.

And now, a stronger leader was standing before them, and she was a woman.

At this mont, they were calculating the pros and cons, their eyes flickering.

But ultimately, they gave up the notion of a counterattack.

They let the skeletons beat their leader without interfering.

So even pretended to faint.

Seeing their strange reactions, Violet understood that there was no need for further discussion.

After snapping her fingers, the assaulting skeleton stopped its attack.

Violet approached the beaten man, lifted the necklace off his neck.

This was a badge registered at the rcenary Guild.

Whoever owned it, was the next leader of the Bronze Shield.

If Violet chose to kill everyone and steal this badge, she still could.

Because ultimately, it was a worthless symbol.

On this continent, having your own people was all that mattered.

After removing his badge, Violet looked down at the man and apologized with a sincere tone.

“You see, I didn’t plan on killing you.

But your glare was so frightening, so, I decided to use a more effective thod instead.”

After she finished speaking, she turned around.

While the unfortunate leader was still struggling to comprehend what had happened, a skeleton grabbed his head and twisted his neck with a swift motion.

Quick and ruthless, Violet was like a cold-blooded executioner.
