Crackle.
With a rumbling sound, Kain pushed back the lid of the coffin, his muscles tensed, and his face flushed. This was harder than he’d thought.
’Fuuuck! It’s like I’m moving a mountain!’ He complained inwardly as he made one last push.
A stale odor with a gust of dust t him.
*Cough* *Cough* *Cough*
Brushing the smoke away, Kain’s eyes fell upon the dried corpse of an unknown man. It wasn’t a skeleton, more like a mummy with skin stretched over muscles.
An old, broken crown rested on the man’s head, indicating his long-ago status. Then, Kain’s eyes traveled to the stone ring hanging from the king’s neck.
’Well, if it’s supposed to be a reward, it’s this ring, isn’t it?’ Kain raised an eyebrow, carefully pulling the ring off.
Deep inside, he was nervous, expecting the corpse to co to life now and attack him or sothing, but nothing happened.
The cot wasn’t supposed to crash here, at least not on this run.
[Ring of the Knight King
Type: Tool
Enchantnt: [Giant’s Power]
[An old ring with only a fraction of its forr power. Now, it is part of a seal for a torched shield sowhere in the remains of darkness. One of four.]
[Giant’s Power] Enchantnt description: [The wearer becos stronger, but also feels a greater weight. This effect always works as long as the ring is in contact with the wielder’s runes.]
Thump.
Kain’s knee collapsed to the ground as he suddenly felt the pressure.
Well, it wasn’t as bad as it looked. Kain just didn’t expect it, gradually he got to his feet confidently, putting the large ring on his wrist like a bracelet.
"Another mystery, right?" Kain frowned. "Cots, the old bridge, deities, white cubes, and now so kind of shield, too? Damn, that’s not considering a Valkyra is waiting for sowhere beyond the Shadow Horizon."
There was no end to the problems, only more of them coming.
Kain didn’t even know it wouldn’t be a minute before he got a new one.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
Four shadows jumped from the beams at different rates, ending up in the middle of the tomb. The shattered cot crystal and the dead stone knights failed to interest them, unlike the young man who stood next to the coffin.
"Is it him...?" the white-haired guy whispered to the green-haired girl.
The girl and the burly man simultaneously nodded when Elara stepped forward. Doubt filled their gazes, for they could clearly see the purple runs around Kain.
Her blue eyes lingered on Kain’s right fist, covered in blood, but not of his own.
Step.
Elara stepped forward, her platinum hair running down her shoulders.
"Why? She was a Keeper just like you! We’re from the sa world! What do are you from, murderer?!"
The situation wasn’t the best.
Four against one. Kain couldn’t win, even if his ability and artifacts would allow him to beat any of them 1 on 1, it didn’t matter in this scenario.
Remaining silent wasn’t an option either.
"If you’re talking about the girl I nailed to the tree, then I have no regrets."
Kain narrowed his eyes.
"I was watching the pillars of light show up, and she charged at from behind. The only thing that saved was the cot that decided to fall here. Otherwise, I would be dead by now."
He lifted his chin.
"She attacked from behind. She saw my runes and she did it anyway. It was murder on her part, self-defense on mine."
Elara’s gnashing of teeth was audible.
"Bullshit! You an to tell it wasn’t your fault for smashing her head in like a wild beast? You didn’t even try to talk to her!"
Kain leaned forward. "I don’t know about you, but I don’t talk to people who want to kill . If I hesitated for a mont, you would find my head by the tree, not her."
The burly man strode forward, standing beside Elara.
"What about us? Are you going to speak with us?"
Kain raised an eyebrow.
"Are you going to kill ?"
Elara waved her hand. "Yes. I’ve seen your kind many tis! You’re cunning bastards who are willing to go head over heels for your cause. You’re acting too suspicious! And, oh! What a coincidence that after you killed an innocent girl, you found your way to the cot and the secret tomb! You must be just lucky, yes?!"
Elara would probably be surprised to hear the answer, but despite her words she definitely wasn’t looking for it.
’Tsk. Apparently, she’s made up her mind and...’ Kain’s eyes traveled towards the others. ’I don’t know what these three are thinking, but from the looks on their faces, they’ll support whatever decision she puts forward.’
The tense silence didn’t last long.
Elara pulled a blue sword from her belt as a cold vapor passed before her eyes.
"Murderers are not welco in any of the worlds. Your life has no aning!"
"You know what doesn’t make sense?"
Kain frowned.
"Your stupid statent. By killing , you beco a murderer too. Does that an your life doesn’t make sense either?"
Elara’s face flushed red with anger. There was nothing left of her forr desire to punish the murderer. Now she was driven only by her sense of justice.
It was a slippery, ungrateful road.
Kain pulled out a dagger as runes ran down his right arm. Everyone else imdiately prepared for battle.
Crackle.
At the sa mont, one of the statues in the distance trembled, revealing a secret passage.
Everyone glanced in the sa direction as a tall figure stepped out of the shadows.
A young man with golden ruffled hair and uncommon athyst eyes walked with a bright smile on his face. In his hand was a compass with a blue quivering arrow pointing straight toward Kain, or rather the tomb.
His eyes ran through the crowd as he quickly realized what was going on there.
"Hey! Which one of you is outnumbered?!" He exclaid with excitent.
Kain silently poked himself in the chest.
"Oh, so it’s two against four? That’s what it’s all about! What could be better than a fight for treasure?"
At the mont, Kain didn’t know it yet, but the young man in front of him had a na - Leon Reinhearth.
And it would be Leon who would show Kain the difference between the one who suffers from a constant curse and the one who stands above all blessings.
