Being followed?
Charlotte’s mind stirred.
She peeled back a sliver of the rear window curtain and looked out, indeed spotting a black carriage trailing them in the darkness.
Closing her eyes, she utilized the Bloodline’s perception abilities. When she opened her eyes again, she chuckled softly and shook her head slightly,
"No matter, let them follow."
Casimodo hesitated.
But glancing back at the composed deanor of his master inside the carriage, he ultimately nodded, and with a "Ya," hastened the speed of the carriage.
The carriage continued on its way.
After turning off the main street and leaving the eastern district, intense fighting noises began to emanate from behind them.
There were cries of alarm, screams of agony, and the sorrowful whinnies of a horse.
Faintly, a powerful Transcendent Aura could be felt—like a fierce mountain flood, like a rampaging tsunami, the re leftover waves of magic power and majesty were enough to terrify.
Casimodo shuddered slightly, instinctually wanting to look back, but then he heard his master’s calm voice:
"Don’t bother, just keep going."
The young girl’s voice was not loud, but it seed to carry a calming force.
Thinking of his master’s newly awakened Transcendent powers, the old servant nodded, took a deep breath, and continued driving.
The sounds of the battle gradually faded.
The night returned to its calm serenity.
Casimodo couldn’t resist looking back one more ti—there were no pursuers behind their own carriage anymore.
Inside the carriage, the beautiful young girl lazily leaned against the window, her hand propping up her smooth, fair chin as she admired the moonlight, while the other hand toyed with an empty goblet, seemingly unmoved by the recent events and having anticipated how things would unfold.
Seeing her so poised, as if everything was under her control, a profound sense of awe began to rise in the old servant’s heart.
He felt that since the disaster of that night, his master seed to have matured and beco more mysterious...
She had her own judgnts, her own thoughts.
And quite possibly... she had her own undisclosed powers.
The old servant had no idea how the young mistress managed it.
But a noble possessing Transcendent powers was inherently mysterious and formidable to ordinary people.
He initially wanted to question why the young lady was inclined towards the Church, but Casimodo had dismissed the thought himself.
He was a servant, and the young girl, the master.
Though still not of age, the young lady had matured and possessed the abilities and judgnt befitting a Family Head.
He didn’t need to ask much.
He just needed to trust his master unreservedly and carry out her commands unconditionally.
Casimodo’s expression beca even more respectful and submissive, and his bent stature gradually straightened.
anwhile, the young lady sitting in the carriage, contemplating whether she could install a hidden compartnt for blood packets, suddenly paused and couldn’t help but look towards the old servant driving at the front.
Just as he had glanced back at her and feigned calm, her proficiency in low-tier Majesty Skill inexplicably increased a bit.
Charlotte, pondering whether the old servant had imagined sothing, examined the Inheritance Promotion Tree in her mind. She decided she needed to improve her low-tier Majesty Skill as soon as possible and find a way to advance to the Starry First Tier earlier.
The reason was simple.
The fighting behind them, the released Transcendent Aura—every one of them was tier-entering!
Different from every crisis before,
this ti, those who targeted her were genuine tier-entering Transcendents...
"The Church can help confront the pressures from Dukes and nobles openly, but privately, I still need my strength to counter any potential stabs in the back."
"A promise for the future, and the Church’s protection, won’t completely deter others’ covetousness; it will only make their actions more covert as they look for my flaws."
"I need to quickly perfect my Majesty Skill and embark on Transcendent Advancent!"
"Training servants is still the best way to improve Majesty Skill; using nobles doesn’t yield as effective results, and today’s gains are less than half an hour of training the maids at ho."
"The younger male nobles are sowhat better, their Charm effects are decent, but it’s disheartening always being surrounded by them... with those audacious gazes."
"However, the servants at ho are already respectful enough under my Majesty Skill, and the training results are diminishing..."
"Nineteen servants barely manage the Manor’s operations, but to look after every aspect of the Manor, I need more, especially since these people lack experience... I need to double or perhaps triple the numbers, maybe tomorrow I can personally pick so newcors in the Outer City District."
"Additionally, I can also have Sebastian help find so reliable Transcendents to act as guards for the Manor..."
Sitting in the carriage, Charlotte was lost in thought.
Though Sebastian was still in his probation period as a Blood Favored, she had already begun to ponder how to leverage the Rose Association’s local influence.
Strangely enough, even Casimodo could assist in increasing her Majesty Skill, yet the dog-like Sebastian couldn’t, which puzzled Charlotte greatly.
It couldn’t be that the respect he showed upon their first real-life eting had already reached its peak, could it?
The rest of the journey was peaceful.
Until they returned to Castel Manor, no further incidents occurred.
Attended by the maids, Charlotte changed out of her dress, freshened up, and then put on a simple black dress.
She didn’t go straight to bed but instead went to the Manor’s backyard, dismissing all the servants.
At night, the cool breeze rustled the leaves in the garden.
The young girl stood in front of the steps, elegantly sipping the beast blood she had prepared in advance from her goblet. Her azure eyes turning into a crimson hue as she leisurely gazed into the darkness:
"Co out, I’m ho now."
As her words fell, a ghostly figure erged from the darkness, swiftly appearing before Charlotte.
Even with prior ntal preparation, Charlotte was still startled, almost failing to securely hold the high-stemd glass in her hand.
"Great and beautiful Lady of the Dark Night! Your humble servant, Sebastian, is always ready to offer his heart and loyalty to you!"
In front of the girl, with a monocle and white gloves, an elegantly dressed Fla Elf nad Sebastian bowed ticulously, his expression a mix of reverence and fervor.
Listening to the self-coined, embarrassing na "Lady of the Dark Night," Charlotte’s lips twitched slightly:
"Just call Charlotte."
"Of course! Honorable and beautiful Lord Charlotte! Thank you for granting your humble Sebastian the honor of addressing you by your true holy na!"
Sebastian bowed again elegantly.
Charlotte: ...
She helplessly looked past the overly sycophantic Fla Elf to see what was behind him.
There, four unconscious Transcendents were sprawled awkwardly, piled up like a stack of logs.
Clearly, Sebastian was responsible for the recent skirmish behind the carriage.
Throughout the journey, the other party had quietly followed, not deliberately avoiding Charlotte and even exposed their presence when Charlotte was probing.
So... Charlotte hadn’t been concerned about the pursuers at all.
She looked at the trackers Sebastian had captured; each one was injured, their faces so battered they were nearly unrecognizable, likely even to their own parents.
Among them, two looked like freelance rcenaries, the others...
Hmm?
Wait...
Those familiar black Divine Robes...
Demon Hunting Knights?
Charlotte paused in surprise.
Noticing the young girl’s gaze, Sebastian quickly stepped aside, fervently yet respectfully saying:
"Honorable and beautiful Lord Charlotte!"
"These individuals dared to stealthily follow and observe you during the Dark Night! How detestable!"
"Your humble Sebastian has captured them all and preliminarily confird their identities! Awaiting your judgnt!"
"Among them, these two are First Tier Starry freelance rcenaries, but after investigation by Sebastian, they have undergone the First Embrace and have beco baron-level Bloodline mbers, carrying the Blood Demon Church marks on them!"
"The remaining two are Demon Hunting Knights from the Bold Demon Hunting Institute, and they too skulked around behind you, never taking their eyes off your carriage!"
Observing Sebastian, who looked as eager as a big golden retriever yearning for praise and recognition, Charlotte fell silent.
Her eyes lingered on the two Demon Hunting Knights with vaguely recognizable faces. After carefully identifying them for quite so ti, she realized one of the severely swollen figures was an acquaintance, the team captain of the Demon Hunting Knights, Chatham.
Charlotte: ...
"Is it possible... that they were specifically sent by the Church to covertly protect ?"
The girl paused before slowly speaking.
Sebastian: ...
Charlotte: ...
Both fell silent in that mont.
Sebastian’s smile beca sowhat forced.
He glanced at the bewildered young girl, then at the two half-dead Demon Hunting Knights on the ground, kicked them lightly, chuckled dryly, and said:
"No... no harm done, right? I might have been a bit quick and heavy-handed, they didn’t see who I was, and they are still unconscious..."
Charlotte: ...
"Um... how about... I send them back right away?"
Sebastian tentatively asked.
"Um... mmm..."
One of the Demon Hunting Knights groaned, seemingly about to awaken.
Almost reflexively, Sebastian kicked them hard, knocking them out again.
"Cough cough... no worries, he gets to sleep a bit longer now."
Glancing at the young girl whose eye was twitching, Sebastian said sowhat sheepishly.
Charlotte: ...
"Handle this well and don’t cause any trouble, including their dical expenses!"
She said coldly.
"Understood! Understood! I’ll send them back right away..."
Sebastian nodded eagerly as if pecking.
Then, he kicked each of the two n once more, promptly receiving a bizarre look from the girl. He chuckled awkwardly in explanation:
"Uh... just making sure they sleep a bit deeper, so they don’t wake up too soon..."
"Don’t worry... I’ll cover the dical expenses."
Charlotte: ...
She suddenly felt as if she had summoned a weirdo...
In her heart, she silently apologized to the unfortunate team captain, Chatham, then composed herself.
Glancing at the two unconscious Blood Demon Church mbers, her expression turned serious, and she said:
"I have a task for you."
