Among the first-year students, both Hinamori Momo and Kira Izuru were assigned to the Organization Departnt under Hisagi Shūhei.
None of the new recruits had a clear grasp of each student council departnt's responsibilities, so there weren't any complaints. Everyone simply hoped to perform well in their respective roles moving forward.
Rukia's na was the last one read aloud.
"Rukia—assigned as assistant to the Student Council President."
Assistant to the President? That drew surprised murmurs from the room. Many hadn't even realized such a position existed.
Then ca the envy.In the eyes of these newcors, the Student Council President already felt like soone on par with the Academy instructors—having a position at his side must be a good thing.
Rukia herself was startled. She couldn't understand what made her special among so many others. Why her, of all people?
Truth be told, she didn't enjoy being singled out. The looks from those around her felt like pressure—suffocating, almost terrifying.
Ever since Renji had been eliminated in the first round of council exams, Rukia had little interest in this organization. She wasn't dead set on joining. If not for Renji's encouragent, she might have withdrawn then and there.
But beside her, Hinamori tugged excitedly at her sleeve.
Suppressing her unease, Rukia replied softly: "Yes."
After the assignnts were complete, each first-year was taken aside for an individual briefing with their respective departnt heads or senpai.
Rukia alone remained in the student council office.
Shin leaned back, eyes resting on the girl before him."You don't look too thrilled about this arrangent."
Rukia imdiately straightened. "It's not that! I just... I just don't think I'm qualified for such an important position."
Shin chuckled gently. "It's only an assistant's role—not exactly a high office. If you don't want it, I can have soone else take it. I don't like forcing anyone to do what they dislike."
Rukia panicked a little at that. It would be rude to refuse outright."You misunderstand... I—I'll do my best!"
With a smile, Shin reassured her."I told you—it's not a big deal. But even if it were important, how do you know you can't handle it? Take a couple of days to get used to the work. You'll be fine."
At least the President is a kind person, Rukia thought, feeling her anxiety ease slightly.
"Yes... thank you, President!"
"You should head back. Don't you have class soon?"
Truth be told, Shin was already having second thoughts about binding the Shinigami's Wedge to Rukia.
He hadn't known a second wedge could be unlocked, and he'd assud that, being the original heroine of Bleach, Rukia's rewards would far surpass others.
But she wasn't easy to bond with.
Hinamori, by contrast, was far simpler.
Still, there was no undoing it now. No use regretting. With both Rukia and Hinamori close by, his strength would surely surge again in the days to co.
Rukia stepped out of the student council office and exhaled, only to spot Hinamori waiting down the hallway.
"Rukia!"
Waving cheerfully, Hinamori rushed up.
"How'd it go?"
"...How did what go?"
"With the President, obviously! You're his assistant now—you'll be by his side all the ti!"
Rukia, still flustered, murmured, "I'm not even sure I can do the job..."
Hinamori bead. "Of course you can!"
"I'll try," Rukia promised, then asked in return, "You're working under Hisagi-senpai, right?"
Hinamori pouted. "Mm. He doesn't smile much. Neither do the others—especially that Kira Izuru guy. Always looks like he's sulking. Honestly, Rukia, I envy you. The President is so easygoing!"
Rukia agreed silently. Hinamori's bubbly personality would probably be better suited for this assistant role.
The thought made her doubt herself even more.
"Anyway, I'm sure we'll all get used to things soon enough. Let's do our best, Rukia!" Hinamori cheered.
Between classes, Renji from Class A ca looking for Rukia.
She told him about the student council, and how she'd been made the President's assistant.
"Assistant to the President...?"
Renji scratched his head. That sounded like an important role—like a Vice-Captain, maybe.
Of course, he didn't realize the student council already had a Vice President. He knew next to nothing about the council's inner workings.
But he still grinned for her."That's aweso, Rukia! Looks like the President knows talent when he sees it!"
"...You idiot. I'm not rchandise," Rukia muttered.
Renji backtracked quickly."I ant he's got good judgnt! Ha ha ha!"
"...Moron."
But seeing her old friend so happy for her softened Rukia's expression.
"Renji, we ca to this Academy to beco Shinigami. We both need to work hard. You're in Class A—you have to push yourself."
"I know!"
He punched the air with a grin."Don't worry, Rukia—we'll both be amazing Soul Reapers!"
Now that the student council was up and running, Shin could skip class without raising eyebrows.
Nandō Shūsaku, his teacher, could only sigh. But realistically, there was nothing more to teach soone like Shin.
All he could do was warn him not to slack off.Even if Shin was the top of the Academy now, the world outside held far stronger Shinigami.
Shin understood that well. Even with the system's help, he trained daily. But looking at his stats, cultivation was slow.
Interacting with Rukia and Hinamori was simply more efficient.
"A captain's coming to inspect the Academy?"
The news ca suddenly from one of the Academy teachers.
"Yep. Happens every year around this ti. This year, your student council will be handling the reception. Mainly escorting them through the first-year classrooms."
Shin already knew of this tradition. It was designed to inspire new students by letting them see real captains up close—living symbols of the Gotei 13.
"...And which captain is visiting this year?"
"Oh, that'd be Captain Aizen Sōsuke of the Fifth Division."
