"I’m sure you did," Evelyn spat, letting go of him.
She stepped out of the room, slamming the door shut.
Zayne stood frozen for a mont.
Had fun?
Won? What won?
He tossed aside his tie and went after her down the hallway.
"Where are you going?"
"None of your business. And quit following !" she snapped at him.
"Evelyn, stop." He hastened his steps. "Stop walking."
"Stop following !"
"Evelyn—"
"Leave alone!"
"Evelyn."
"Zayne Mancini!" She shot around towards him, a furious breath fleeing her mouth. "What? What do you want?"
Zayne didn’t stop walking, not until he stood before her, barely an inch of space between them.
She stared up at him with a craned neck.
He gazed down at her. Eyes filled with a type of conflict she couldn’t read.
Neither of them was speaking, almost as if both of them were at a loss for words.
The man seed as calm as could possibly be, eyes flickering all over her face as if searching for sothing. Evelyn on the other hand was angry. Her shoulders were rising and falling in quick rhythm.
There were no words from him, only the rise of his hand that she didn’t stop, even when it crawled into the back of her hair. The sparks. They were already breaking wildly inside of her, like fire crackers, burning if she might add.
Her breathing was growing erratic the more she watched him—the more she felt the sensitive touch of his hand. The more she tried to understand what the sparks flickering inside of her, were.
She swallowed, eyes falling montarily to his lips. "Zayne..."
He was close, so, so, close, that if he moved any further—any further than he already was, they’d just...
Why wasn’t she moving?
Why was she just standing there as though she had no control of her own body? Her eyes dilated to the size of saucers.
He was going to—
"Sir."
She froze even more than she already did. And it wasn’t just her. Zayne had gone still, Adam’s apple bouncing as he swallowed.
"Oh, I’m sorry." It was Agatha. "I-I had no idea you were—"
"What is it, Agatha?" he questioned.
"Um, sir Alessio called. He said he’ll be coming tomorrow for the security fix. I thought I should let you know before I forget."
"You may leave."
She didn’t stall, quickly turning and hurrying off.
Zayne glanced back at Evelyn. She was peering at him, unblinking, as her fingers ca up to touch her bottom lip.
He didn’t even get the chance to utter a word before she slapped his hands off, taking a staggering step back. She turned away, tramping off to the guest room.
The door slamming shut resounded.
Zayne rubbed his forehead, a tad bit frustrated. He pinched between his brows, bit his fingers for a mont, and turned, storming off.
.....
It was very early in the morning. The birds were chirping loudly outside.
Evelyn walked into the kitchen, halting at the dining room.
She’d forgotten that the man always spent a bit of ti there before he left for work in the morning. He noticed her because he’d turned his head.
But she looked away from him, making her way over to the counter for a cup of coffee. Sothing rather caught her attention though. Coffee was already made, of course for him, but by the side was another cup, covered.
Was this for her?
She glanced at him behind her shoulder, but before he could even make eye contact with her, she looked away, frowning. Her teeth dug into her lip.
Not that she really cared for the coffee, it would be a waste to reject it.
Evelyn picked the cup up, taking a sip. It was good, just like she liked it.
Ha! So, he’d been paying attention. Then again, it wasn’t as if she didn’t know how he liked his coffee. Lots of cream and sugar.
Turning, she proceeded to leave the dining room, but Zayne, however, grabbed her wrist, pulling her to a stop. "Why didn’t you co back to the room?" he asked.
She blinked. "What...?"
He lifted his gaze. "Couples should share the sa bed, shouldn’t they? You told that."
"And?" She cocked a brow.
"Co back to the room."
"Aw, did you miss ?" She batted her lashes at him, flirtatiously. "I thought you wanted out? You should be happy about this."
"Well, I’m not," he said with a straight face. "I’m used to you and I have no problem with sharing a room with you."
She stared at him and abruptly chuckled, saying in the driest of tones, "I don’t care."
"Evelyn—"
"Take your hand off , Zayne, or I’ll bite you."
He furrowed his brows. "You wouldn’t do that."
"Try ."
They both lowered their gaze to where he held her. He wasn’t willing to let go.
"Let go," she demanded.
"No."
It was almost as if he wanted to see what she would do.
"Mr. Zayne Mancini, don’t test ."
"Evelyn, if you would just—"
The sting ca, rushing through his body so quickly, all he could do was jolt back, lowering his eyes to his hand.
She’d actually... bitten him.
"Y-you bit ?"
Shock was written all over his face, at an absolute loss for words.
Evelyn eyed him from head to toe, tongue running over her teeth. "Next ti I warn you, take seriously, Mr. Mancini."
She feigned a bite towards him, grinning when he flinched back just a bit. A mocking scoff fell through her lips and she whipped her hair to the side as she walked off, the sound of her heels loud against the marble tiles.
Zayne flickered his eyes for a few monts. He rubbed at her bite and suddenly began to cackle, genuinely amused. Humoured even.
"She is crazy." He laughed.
....
Evelyn sat in the back of the car. Enzo was driving her as Zayne had his own company to attend to. But she wasn’t going to TDG just yet.
She was heading to the hospital to see Preston. How he was faring. Zayne had done a number on him, she feared he could have actually killed him. She’d never seen him that angry, never even knew he could lose his temper like that.
"Ms, we’ve arrived." Enzo glanced at her through the rearview mirror. "I have to go in with you."
She scowled at him. "Why?"
"My boss’s order. He’s not around, It’s my job to make sure you’re alright."
Evelyn glanced around and snorted in disbelief. "Are you joking with , Enzo?"
"Not at all, ma’am."
"After calling a damsel in distress?" She motioned with two fingers and shoved the door open. "No, thank you. I can handle myself."
Enzo exited the car, refusing, "I have to do my job, Ms. The boss—"
"I don’t care what he says." She glared at him. "You’re staying out here and I will handle myself. When I’m done, I’ll co right back. Do you understand ?"
"Ma’am..."
His expression was pleading.
"I’ll be just fine, Enzo." She half smiled at him, turning to enter the building. "What can they possibly do to in a hospital?"
