Lincoln quickly tossed the papers aside. He rushed up the stairs, making his way to his room. He slamd the door shut behind him, stalked his way to his bed, and pulled out a box from under the large wooden holder.
Lincoln opened the box, and he frantically searched through it.
There were letters inside it from him to her and from her to him. There were photos of them together, even the gifts they’d shared.
"Here it is." He took out the envelope which at this point, looked dusty and a bit worn out.
Lincoln tore it open, flipped the paper apart, and began to read the content.
When she had been pregnant with Evelyn, every test she did, she gave him a duplicate of the papers, because while she loved his brother after everything that happened, she knew he was still the father of the child and wanted him to stay updated one way or the other. She believed she deserved to be.
Although during one of them, this paper was mixed in. A full blood test. It seed weird, confusing. It was nothing like any normal human blood test and this he knew, because while he hadn’t ended up becoming a doctor, he’d studied as one.
But he’d overlooked it because it made no sense. It was probably a mixture. So kind of mistake from the hospital.
Lincoln sat in the bed, biting his finger.
He could still vividly hear the one ti she’d laughed, telling him she wasn’t human. He’d taken it as a joke, didn’t consider she ant it because why would he? How could the woman he loved possibly be anything other than a human?
But these blood tests.... Evelyn and hers were completely the sa. A perfect match. If she truly hadn’t been a human, what was she then?
What out there was she?
Lincoln balled his fists. He was going to find out. And he would start with tracing down her family.

Luca blinked his eyes open, gaze fixed on the ceiling of the ward he was in. He’d expected to wake up in a hospital, after all Valerio’s n had beaten the crap out of him anyway.
But he wondered for how many hours he’d been unconscious.
Turning his head, he grunted a bit. There were cards on the table. Flowers and...gifts?
Who were they from?
Forcing himself up on the bed, he tried to see, but then the monitor began beeping and before he could even do a thing, a nurse rushed in towards him.
"You’re awake." She quickly proceeded to do a thorough check-up on him, making sure he was out of danger.
Luca watched him all the while, even as she walked around the bed to be in front of him. She lifted her hand. "Can you tell how many fingers I have up?"
He blinked. "Three?"
"Oh thank goodness."
He seed confused at her sigh of relief. He knew his condition was bad, but it couldn’t have been that bad right?
"How long have I been here?" he asked.
"A week."
"A week!" he exclaid.
The nurse nodded at him. "Young man, you were in a very critical condition. You were too beaten up and even your head was bleeding. Had you been brought here any later, you might not be seated here chattering off."
"It was that bad...." He lifted his head and touched his head. "It was bandaged throughout and he even had a cast around his neck. "Oh, my neck too?"
"Who even did that to you?" the nurse asked as she adjusted his drip.
He tried to shake his head, but it was a bit hard with the cast. "It’s a long story. Oh, that reminds . My mories are intact."
"Indeed they are. You woke up earlier than expected. Good job." The nurse patted his shoulder. "Tell , though, how do you feel? Do you feel any pain, or weird at all? If you do, let call the doctor for you."
"Oh, no, no." Luca waved his hands. "That’s fine. I feel okay. Thoughts if you don’t mind asking, who brought all these gifts over here?"
"That?"
The nurse glanced over at the flowers and the gifts. Even written cards. "It was the young lady Darkwood. She’d been visiting every day for a while now."
Evelyn... His thoughts wailed and his face slowly lit up in smiles. "So she did make it safe too."
After the whole thing at the bridge and Evelyn fainting, he could barely comprehend anything anymore. And had actually lost his consciousness in the car.
So he had no clue if Evelyn was really okay.
But hearing the nurse’s words, confird everything had ended well.
......
Evelyn walked into the manor with Brandon. They’d co to see Alessio and the man had co down to see them.
He had dark circles around his eyes and that was enough to tell them that he hadn’t slept well these past few nights.
"You didn’t tell you were coming?" Alessio said, referring to Brandon.
Brandon offered an awkward smile, apologizing. "Sorry, it was a bit urgent."
Alessio looked over to Evelyn. He stared at her and slowly smiled at her, asking, "How do you feel now, Evelyn?"
They’d never really t much or talked, but he seed nicely casual which ant Zayne talked about her a lot. Her heart sank dejectedly at the thought, but she still smiled back, responding, "I’m okay. Thank you. I’ve gotten better."
"That’s good to hear." Alessio turned to Brandon. "Why have you co? Is everything alright?"
Brandon nodded. "Everything is fine. But...we want to know if there is any news on Zayne. You haven’t called and surely nothing really happened to him, right?"
The look that appeared on Alessio’s face was enough to tell them that there was nothing. Alessio shook his head. "I haven’t got anything. I’ve been trying to reach my brothers but their phones are switched off. I have also tried to track them but I haven’t gotten anywhere. So... I’m just as clueless, if not helpless."
He looked miserable.
