Ray POV
My day with Claudia was completely ruined by Miles’ interruption. I was in a terrible mood, but at the sa ti, I was also glad that Miles had dug his own grave.
With his own confession, there was no way Claudia would forgive him easily. It would be even better if she truly hated him to the bone and wanted to kill him.
If that was the case, then I... would lend her a hand.
I wouldn’t even mind being the sharp knife that she used to stab that wimpy bastard until he regretted everything.
But instead of begging to kill Miles, all Claudia did was whimper sadly and ask to go back to the penthouse.
She looked so out of it the whole ti, as if half of her heart had been stolen from her, and it... angered .
How could this woman be so stupid after everything that Miles had done?
I exposed every rotten part of Miles to her—his opportunistic nature, how he threw her away the second he no longer needed her, his shaless cheating, and the deliberate sche he crafted with Clarissa to trap Claudia and force her into submission.
I made sure that Claudia saw Miles as the worst scum on earth... so why did she still look heartbroken over the fact that Miles sold her wedding ring for pocket change?
You should’ve told that you want him dead, and I will bring his head to you, Claudia.
That was what I wanted to say to her right after the phone call with Miles ended. But when I caught a glimpse of her tears, my heart suddenly went cold and my tongue beca stiff.
I feared that if I pushed her any further, she would burst into tears right there on the swan boat, and her sobs would leave too distracted to figure out how to calm her.
As I returned to my penthouse in the evening, I saw my secretary—Jane Jiang—standing near the space where I usually parked my car.
She didn’t even try to hide her emotions right now, because everyone with a pair of functioning eyes could see the aggravated and wronged expression on her face, as if I had done a great injustice.
I parked and went out of the car. I walked toward the elevator without stopping, ignoring Jane right to her face, and of course Jane followed imdiately.
"Sir, why are you doing this to ?"
"Doing what?" I asked as we both entered the elevator. I genuinely had no idea what I did to make her look so aggravated. After all, we never had any kind of relationship to begin with, and she had no right to dictate what I should do based on her preferences.
"You... you obviously know that I have feelings for you, Sir. You told that you hate Claudia Reed, so... so why would you take her on a date?" Jane Jiang said. "You... you are even dressed up for the occasion. You’re always wearing a suit and tie almost every day before!"
"You have no right to dictate what I wear, Jane. I’m dressing up for the occasion because wearing a suit and tie to a park would look strange," I replied before shooting a sideways glance full of disdain at her. "And why should I care about your romantic feelings toward ? I never led you on, and I told you many tis that if you cannot keep your feelings in check, then you’re free to resign."
Ding!
As the elevator door opened, I walked out slowly while Jane persistently followed from behind.
"But you said that you hate her, then why all this?"
"I do hate her, that’s why I’m doing all this, including bringing her to the park for a date." With the key card in my hand, I unlocked the door and pushed it open. "You don’t have to follow , Jane. I don’t want Claudia to see us together and begin suspecting sothing."
That warning was enough to make her stop in her tracks. She kept staring at with eyes brimming with tears, but I couldn’t care less about that.
Just like what I said many tis before, another woman’s tears held absolutely zero effect on . They could wail so hard until their eyes went blind, and I wouldn’t bat an eye.
It was only Claudia’s tears that made act like an idiot as I lost my rationality instantly upon seeing a drop of tear at the corner of her eye.
"Then why... why would you give such specific instructions while you and Claudia Reed were gone, Sir? If you truly hate her, then why does everything that you’re doing for her scream otherwise?!"
I halted my step and looked over my shoulder. Maybe I had been too patient with this brazen secretary of mine, so she dared to question what I was doing, even accusing of being in love with Claudia.
To accuse of being in love with the woman who humiliated was an insult to my pride.
"What do you know about , Jane? Do you think that by becoming my secretary, you already know everything?" I scoffed at her stupefied face. "If you knew the real , then you would’ve resigned from your position imdiately, because I can make your life a living hell for that insult alone."
"So don’t ddle in my affairs and just do your job properly. You are nothing but a tool to , and you will always stay that way."
That last sentence seed to be the final straw for her, because Jane began crying until her makeup was ruined.
"Then what about Claudia? Why don’t you make her life a living hell for insulting you many tis?!"
"...."
I didn’t give Jane the answer that she wanted and simply slamd the door in her face.
"Tsk, I’ll have to consider a replacent soon. She’s not acting like the tool that I want her to be."
