Abigail was surprised to see the familiar figure sitting inside and waving at them.
She feels delighted to see Hannah Walker looking in their direction, her eyes shining joyfully.
"Abigail, my daughter-in-law, I finally see you again. Co in here, my dear, sit with ..." Hannah stood up and walked to take Abigail’s arm. She led Abigail to sit beside her and completely ignored her son.
Sawyer was left speechless. He could only manage a faint smile as he watched his mother talk with his wife. He said nothing and sat across from them before calling the waitress to order another dish for himself and Abigail.
"Mother, I’m glad to see you too..." Abigail smiled at Hannah.
Seeing how happy Hannah was to see her made her feel guilty since they hadn’t t since the wedding. Now, she couldn’t ignore Hannah and could only manage a faint smile at Sawyer’s sulky expression.
"Abigail, where have you been? I’ve asked Sawyer several tis to bring you to visit . And each ti, he always said you were out of town," Hannah protested, glancing at Sawyer before continuing, "Son, you are so an to your mother. Why don’t you ever let Abigail co et ?" She narrowed her eyes at him.
Sawyer remained silent after his mother’s words. He allowed the waiters to serve the food before saying, "Mom, can we eat before we talk? It’s past lunchti, and my wife is starving..."
"Oh my! I’m really sorry, my daughter-in-law. I completely forgot because I was just so thrilled to et you!" Hannah started to help Abigail put the grilled lobster on her plate.
"Thank you, Mom..." Abigail replies with a smile and begins to eat her grilled lobster. She is genuinely starving. She cleaned the large grilled lobster tails and stir-fried vegetables within a few minutes but still felt hungry.
"Eat more, sweetheart. You look so thin," Hannah said as she piled another grilled lobster and a few more dishes onto her plate before turning to her son. "Sawyer, could you pay attention to my daughter-in-law? She looks thinner than the last ti I saw her..."
Sawyer, still upset that his mother ignored him and only focused on his wife, imdiately stopped eating and turned to glance at Abigail for a mont.
A frown creased his forehead when he realized that Abigail looked smaller than before. It made him feel worried and guilty; he nodded at his mother, "Yes, I will," he replied faintly. And look at his wife again, "Abby, please eat more..."
"Son, it’s important for you to make sure my daughter-in-law eats healthy food all the ti," Hannah said, feeling excited at the thought that Abigail would soon give them a grandchild.
Hannah added, "Would you like to send the Old Chef to your house? I know you enjoy his cooking..."
Sawyer quickly declined her offer. "No need, Mom. I’ll ask Paul and my chef to focus on that. Trust , Mom. Don’t worry," he replied.
Abigail was speechless when she overheard Hannah and Sawyer discussing her. How could they say she was thin? She loved to eat but had never experienced significant weight gain; no matter how much she consud, her weight always remained the sa—sothing many won envied about her.
She lowers her face, feeling shy, yet she continues to eat. As she finishes her food, Hannah adds another dish to her plate.
"Thank you, Mom, I’m sorry, but my stomach is so full..." Abigail pleaded with Hannah to stop. Hannah smiled and rubbed her tight stomach to show she had no more room for food. She felt like she wanted to unbutton her pants to sit more comfortably, but she was too shy to do that.
She glanced at Sawyer, pleading for his help, but he appeared to believe her mother’s earlier words; he rely smiled at her without saying a word.
Abigail, "..."
"Oops, sorry, honey. Alright, I’ll ask the waitresses to bring you dessert." Hannah said as she called the server in the corner to order a chocolate mousse cake for Abigail.
Abigail is a big fan of chocolate cake, so she didn’t refuse and savored her slice slowly. When Hannah added another piece to her plate, she completely forgot about her full belly.
She savored her cake and listened to Hannah and Sawyer discuss Hannah’s incoming birthday dinner.
"I know Mom and Dad have already called to remind ," Sawyer responds to Hannah after she reminds him about her birthday.
Hannah was surprised to hear, "Your father already called you?"
"Yes. He calls Paul and makes sure I’m not forgetting about it."
"Your dad is so nice!" Hannah couldn’t hide her happiness. She turned her gaze to Abigail and said, "Daughter-in-law, you must co to my birthday dinner. You are the guest of honor. We will introduce you to Sawyer’s brother and sister..." Hannah said this excitedly, but Abigail felt butterflies dancing inside her.
Abigail felt nervous again, just as when she overheard Sawyer talking with Paul the other night. She wasn’t sure how to respond to Hannah since Sawyer hadn’t shared any details with her.
She turned to Sawyer, hoping he would say sothing. His reassuring smile gradually cald her.
"Mom, I already told Dad we will co," Sawyer replied to Hannah.
"Thank you, son. And you don’t have to bring a present since Abigail is such a precious gift to us," Hannah said sincerely, smiling at Abigail.
They chatted for a while again, enjoying dessert. However, shortly after, Sawyer asked permission to head ho.
Their lunch ends, and after Hannah leaves the restaurant, they rush back to their house.
Abigail didn’t say much on the way ho. She still feels nervous about eting Sawyer’s brother, sister, and other family mbers.
"What are you thinking, Abby?" Sawyer’s question pulled her back from her thoughts.
She turned to him, trying to hide her nervousness. "When is your mother’s birthday? I’m trying to think of a gift for her..."
"December First," he replied with a smile, glancing at her briefly. "Abby, you really don’t need to worry about it. I’ll take care of the gift for us."
