"I’ve already handed in my resignation."
"What?" The HR manager was directly stunned.
It took quite a while before speaking, "Then... are you..."
Stella knew that according to the formal resignation process, after submitting the resignation letter, a transition of two weeks is still required.
She is not soone who leaves things unfinished.
Since she has already decided to resign, the necessary work handover must still be done, not leaving any burden for others.
"I’ll return to the company shortly to do the work handover."
"Okay, okay, I’ll wait for you to co over."
After hanging up the phone, Stella couldn’t help but take a deep breath.
She has already sold the house, and once the work transition is complete, she can leave.
Only, the incision on her abdon still has a faint ache.
After resting for quite a while, Stella then hailed a cab to the law firm.
And with her appearance, the entire law firm atmosphere lightened significantly.
"Stella..."
"Stella, you’re finally here..."
A few young assistants were overjoyed, chirping around Stella, chattering incessantly.
There was genuine joy and reliance in their eyes, which ward Stella’s heart.
"I’m here to do the work handover." Stella smiled and interrupted their excitent, focusing her gaze on one of the assistants, "Jessica, I’ll hand over my current work to you first."
"Stella, are you... are you really leaving?" Everyone couldn’t help but glance at each other.
Stella nodded with a smile, "Yes."
...
anwhile, upon hearing about Stella’s return, Jude rushed into Jasper Hawthorne’s office imdiately.
"Stella’s back!"
He bead brightly, "I knew that girl couldn’t do without you. See, the mont she heard you were going to fire her, she rushed back!"
Jasper glanced at him expressionlessly, "You seem very idle. Should I share so of the agency agreents I have with you?"
Jude quickly made a pleading gesture—What a joke!
The ones that get to Jasper Hawthorne’s hands are all high-risk agency agreents. Although the higher the risk, the more complex the case, the greater the share of fees for the lawyer, one must have the capability to secure them!
Just as Jude was turning to leave the office, he suddenly heard Jasper speak, "Bring Stella in."
Jude smirked, "Understood."
Stella was in the middle of the work handover when she heard soone beside her address as ’Attorney Kensington.’ She instinctively lifted her gaze and t Jude’s smiling eyes.
"Stella, Old Hawthorne wants you to go to his office!"
Stella rose and stood.
Jude walked alongside her, lowering his voice, "Stella, let tell you, dealing with soone as heartless as Jasper Hawthorne, you should be ruthless. Don’t cater to him in everything; this ti he dared to skip the wedding! You’re spoiling him!"
Stella’s hand clasped the door handle, turning her head to look at him, "Do you want to go in with , Senior Brother?"
"No, no." Jude quickly waved his hand, "I can’t afford to provoke the one inside; it’s still you."
With that, he scampered back to his office.
Stella took a deep breath and pushed the door open.
Jasper Hawthorne’s office, as always, was tidy and solemn, dark wooden furniture and walls filled with law books creating a dignified and oppressive atmosphere.
He was sitting behind the spacious desk, examining docunts.
"Attorney Hawthorne, you were looking for ?" Stella stood before the desk, her voice calm.
Ordinary as the address was, since usually within the firm, Stella always addressed him as ’Attorney Hawthorne’ to avoid suspicion, only privately calling him by na.
Yet, Jasper paused slightly with the pen in his hand, instinctively raising his gaze to her, his eyebrows faintly furrowed.
She had disappeared for a week, and the girl before him looked noticeably thinner.
Her originally rounded cheeks had slimd down.
She wore a simple white shirt and black trousers, making her fra appear even slimr.
"Were you sick?" Jasper’s eyebrows furrowed slightly, "Why have you lost so much weight?"
Though appendicitis is minimally invasive, it’s surgery nonetheless. She had been through a week of tornt, losing six pounds in total.
"Is there sothing Attorney Hawthorne needs?" Stella retorted with a business-like manner.
Jasper couldn’t help but frown, not knowing why, after hearing that ’Attorney Hawthorne,’ he had a strange clogged feeling inside.
He had clearly shown concern, yet she didn’t appreciate it.
Even though he indeed erred on the wedding day, it wasn’t a life-threatening matter, was it?
When did she beco so cold-blooded?
"A week off from work? You really think I won’t dare to fire you?" Jasper’s voice cooled.
Stella’s expression remained indifferent, still appearing business-like, "I’ve already submitted the resignation letter."
"I haven’t approved it."
"According to labor laws, the unit has no right not to approve the resignation of employees..."
"Stella!" Jasper’s voice rose a few degrees, cutting her off coldly.
Stella’s curled eyelashes fluttered slightly, pinched her rosy lips, and diverted her gaze, saying nothing more.
The office sank into dead silence.
After a long interval, Jasper pursed his lips, his voice calming a bit, "There’s a eting this afternoon, co with ..."
"Jasper Hawthorne, I’ve already said..." Stella articulated every word, "I’ve already resigned."
Jasper’s face imdiately darkened.
"Have you had enough of this turmoil?"
Would she really leave the job?
Would she really leave him?
From the day he t Stella, she was like an incessantly persistent little clingy spirit, chasing after him regardless of cold dismissals or stern rebuke.
As long as he turned around, she was always behind him.
He knew better than anyone that Stella couldn’t leave him.
Resignation?
Impossible.
"Even your foolish behavior should have a limit! Do you really think I won’t agree to your resignation?" Jasper’s voice also sank.
"I don’t need your approval." Stella lifted her gaze at him, "Once the handover of responsibilities is complete, I’ll leave. Don’t worry, Attorney Hawthorne, it won’t take long, I can finish it within a day."
Jasper’s face darkened enough to drip water, but before he could speak, there was a knock on the office door, and then Jude peeked inside, "Old Hawthorne, you’re needed later..."
But before he could finish talking, Jasper had already grabbed the docunts on the table and threw them fiercely, "Get out!"
The folder hit the floor, the papers scattered everywhere, Jude’s head disappeared instantly as if harvested like wheat.
Stella frowned slightly.
Due to alexithymia, she rarely observed any significant emotional fluctuation on Jasper’s face; even when angry, he rely frowned. Yet, this ti, throwing things...
Was a first.
Stella withdrew her gaze, her porcelain-white face only maintained calm, "Moreover, my shares in Ethan Sterling’s company, just convert them to market value for ..."
But before she could finish, Jasper abruptly stood up, stepped to Stella’s front within a few strides.
His towering height brought an overwhelming sense of oppression, a pair of ink-black eyes seemingly brimd with frosty chill.
Jasper practically spoke word by word, "Stella, consider carefully, if you resign, you’ll never return!"
