"Master, what happened? There was a loud noise-"
Fenrir imdiately ran toward my room when the explosion happened. He looked vigilant and on edge. But he was not the only one who ran toward my room.
Both Nyx and Erebus rushed toward my room with scared expressions on their faces as well. They looked worried as they hesitated whether to enter or not.
"You all can co in here for now. I will go and check out what that explosion was."
I did not want to head out. But I felt responsible when I looked at these kids. That was the only reason I decided to put myself in danger.
But Nyx gripped my clothes and held back.
"Don’t go. Just... stay here with us."
She asked , and Erebus also gripped my shirt. I had no choice but to listen to these kids. So I sighed and sat down on the bed with them.
"Fine. You both can go to sleep in my room tonight. We will see what happened tomorrow."
I told the kids and they went to sleep. There were no other explosions throughout the night, but the terror of being under attack did not lessen.
The next morning, I woke up first and the kids were still sleeping. So I decided to head out to get so food and be back before the kids knew it.
But just to be extra sure, I left them a ssage on the table as well.
The town felt quieter than before. It almost reminded of the rat epidemic that happened. I kept walking toward the train station and then past it to get so food.
The market was the only place where people were traveling around. And even then, they did not stop to linger for longer than they needed to.
I also headed toward the bread shop to get so food when I felt soone reaching for my shoulder and trying to grab it.
I instinctively turned around and grabbed that offending hand.
"Ouch-! Shopkeeper, that hurts. You can let go of now please."
It was Miss Shirley, and she rubbed her reddening wrist with tears in her eyes. She looked at as if I were the devil, but then her eyes turned curious.
"Did you hear the loud noise last night, shopkeeper? Apparently, it was so people trying to infiltrate our town in search of the grove’s stolen treasure. You better be careful or you might co across those people as well."
Miss Shirley cautioned as she giggled. Her hurt wrist seed to have recovered as she waved it around.
"Hahaha, that’s an interesting conversation. Do you mind if I join in? It has been a long ti since we last t, shopkeeper. I was thinking that I should drop by your store, but then I got busy... ah, but that’s life for you."
Before I could answer her, soone else walked in and joined our conversation. It was Henry, and he looked as carefree as he ever did.
However, life must be tough for him because I could see dark circles under his eyes. He must be working hard to fight the outsiders and catch the people causing a ss.
"Oh my-! It’s you, General Henry. I heard you personally looked over the fight yesterday... and that you also had a run-in with your ex-wife and were unable to sleep because of it. It explains the dark circles."
Shirley was brutal and she did not even spare Henry with her questioning and teasing.
Henry just sighed as he heard the teasing and decided to answer her.
"So you even heard about that, huh-? I should not underestimate the intelligence of your people. So, what can you tell us about the man from yesterday?"
Henry asked, and Shirley giggled as she looked at him.
"Hmm, well I might know a thing or two about it, but I cannot tell you just yet. How about... we talk about this later and I can tell you what you can do for in return as well?"
She asked and Henry sighed before he agreed to her deal. I watched that deal with a little interest. As much as I wanted to join them both, I felt that it would be better for not to do that.
Henry turned to look at with interest next.
"Shopkeeper, you better be careful out here for so ti. I know that you are strong and resourceful, but tis are not safe. We will do our best to keep our city safe, so do not worry about it."
Henry assured and I gave him an awkward nod.
"Yeah, you do that. But also be careful out there yourself. Do not get yourself hurt or killed when you do not need to."
I told Henry and he nodded before he left. I let out a sigh of relief as I watched him leave, only to turn around and see Shirley’s interested face.
My heart skipped a beat in my chest and I clutched it to calm myself down.
"Hmm, perhaps you also know a little bit about this situation?"
Shirley asked and my heart beat painfully fast in my chest. I wanted to answer her, but I could not bring myself to do that.
My silence caused Shirley to back down with a disappointed look on her face.
"Oh well, I am sure you have your own plans as well, shopkeeper. Please, do not let keep you waiting. I should head out now. I will see you soon."
She told before she quickly left. I was left all alone near the bakery.
Cough
"Are you done talking? If so, then can you get out of the way now? There are a few things that I need to buy."
The female behind had not spoken anything yet, but she felt irritated and finally snapped at . I quickly got out of her way with a ’sorry’ and then I headed back ho with my basket full.
Sothing told that I was not going to get any traffic for the next few days, so I decided to stop by the train station to gather more faith points.
