MAVERICK’S POV
"Sir, are you alright?" Shadow walked inside the office as I massaged my forehead.
I sat in my chair, sipping the hot coffee Greta brewed for .
"What do you an?" I asked as I opened another docunt that contained the information on the dead bodies that have been found near our pack borders recently.
"You look stressed, like sothing has been bugging you," Shadow said.
I sighed before humming.
"Would you have been fine if you knew your woman was in trouble and suffering and there was nothing you could do to help her other than staying with her?" I asked.
Shadow sighed and shook his head.
After the last ti, I told all my leaders what was going on and everything related to Valencia so they could know what to expect to happen in the future.
I was blessed with amazing people who were ready to stay by my side through thick and thin and didn’t mind all the troubles, but it didn’t an it decreased my disappointnt in myself.
The crowning ceremony was supposed to happen in two days, and we all knew that Glacier and Ethan had been planning sothing, but we didn’t know how or when.
The thought that their actions would put my woman’s life in more danger was gnawing at .
Valencia was barely keeping herself sane. Though she was smiling and pretending everything was normal most of the ti, I knew she was scared, hurt, and, most importantly, tired.
I probably wouldn’t have felt her emotions so deeply without marking her.
She tries her best to keep her mind barrier up so that I won’t sense what is going on inside her head, but there are tis when she slips, and those feelings are enough to turn a grown man insane.
The screams of pain and agony that she releases even in her sleep have been keeping awake; the way she has been training so hard and thoroughly to make herself stronger for the transformation that might happen anyti and probably take her life, the way she tries to keep smiling at the pack mbers to ensure everyone everything was okay, everything gnaws at my heart.
I looked out the window towards the training ground where Liam was accompanying Valencia through her training and teaching her new ways of effective kicking while she shot an arrow, making clench my fists.
What was the use of being the beast alpha and having the entire world fear you when the woman you are supposed to love and protect can’t rely on you for her safety? When you are completely helpless against a force that is targeting your woman?
I sighed and picked up my pen to sign the contract when I saw Shadow’s mind linking soone with a tense expression.
"What is it?" I asked.
"Sir, our team has finally managed to reach one of the leaders from Glacier’s team," Shadow said, and I didn’t waste a second rushing out of my cabin.
"Where is he?" I asked Flynn as soon as we reached the abandoned construction site.
"We have tied him up in the basent, sir," Flynn said.
I walked inside the basent with Flynn, Greta, Shadow, and Viking by my side.
A chuckle escaped my mouth as soon as I saw who it was.
"Whoever caught him definitely deserves a raise," I comnted, my gaze not moving away from an unconscious Parker.
Wasn’t he the left-hand man of Glacier?
"Wake him up," I said to no one in particular, and Liam imdiately dragged the silver chains with his gloved hands before picking them up and slamming them on Parker’s body.
The sizzling sound and sll of flesh burning spread across before we heard a hiss and scream from none other than Parker.
The guy opened his eyes wide, his gaze eting mine and his pupils dilating imdiately.
"Alpha Maverick," he gulped.
I leaned forward and grabbed his chin, placing my foot on his armrest to look at him closely.
"You are still as healthy as I rembered you. Unfortunately, that won’t be the case for long," I said.
Parker scoffed through his pain.
"If you think I will betray my boss just because you guys captured and would threaten with death, then you are highly mistaken," The guy said.
I furrowed my brows.
"Who told you we want to threaten you with death for you to open up your mouth?" I asked.
I knew Parker wasn’t expecting to hear this from . His expression said it all.
"If not that, why have you guys captured ? There is no other reason for you," Parker said.
I tutted before sighing.
"You have underestimated us for quite a long ti. Just because we don’t stoop to your level doesn’t an we are the good guys here," I said, smirking coldly at him.
For all the ti my woman had to suffer, still walk in fear that soone will attack her, that soone will co for her, for the ti they planned the attack on her and were still coveting against her, how could I let go of this man with so information and just a death threat?
"Haven’t you heard of the rumors?" I asked him.
"What rumors?" Parker gulped, looking at us warily, his earlier confidence shattering.
"That the beast alpha has turned into a lovesick fool? Did you guys think I would let you guys live after what you are making my woman go through? She can’t sleep at night because she is in constant agony, and even after waking up, she trains herself until she falls unconscious. She is suffering because you guys are conspiring against her," I said.
"Viking," I said, and the man stepped ahead.
Parker looked at Viking with wide eyes, his distinguished scent probably telling him what I had in mind.
’No. You can’t do this, Alpha Maverick. This is against the law. You can’t involve a siren in a personal rivalry like this. This is wrong. If the council gets to know—" Parker stopped as he kept looking at .
"You never wanted any information from ," He said as the realization dawned upon him.
I nodded. He was right. I never wanted any information from them. I know they were planning the attack two days after. All I needed to know was when and why. But that could be found later.
The reason I asked my people to follow Glacier’s leaders and kidnap them was because I wanted to weaken their force internally before the attack.
Giving them a death threat? It was nowhere near a threat. I was giving them a straight death.
Viking, one of my hidden assets, is a siren who feeds on werewolves and humans. I had especially called him here, arranging all the necessary conditions for him to stay out of the oceans for a week because I knew I had so use for him.
"Who will tell the council I used a siren to torture you to death? You won’t stay alive to tell, and dead n tell no tales," I said.
For the first ti since I entered, I saw real, raw fear in Parker’s eyes as he shuddered, his confidence breaking.
"N-no, please. You can’t do this. I can co on your side if you want, but this..." Parker shook violently in his place as Viking held his hand and took a deep breath of his flesh.
"You were right, sir. Despite being a rogue, his diet was quite good and healthy," Viking comnted.
Viking raised his head, his teeth elongating into the shape of a sea monster that he was as he bit hard into Parker’s hand.
"Ahhh!" A scream broke out from Parker’s mouth as Viking chewed his flesh without removing his mouth from his hand.
Blood dripped from the corner of his mouth onto his clothes as Parker struggled hard to break himself free.
"Alpha Maverick, please stop this. Please, I am begging you. I will do everything you need or want to. I know you don’t trust because I am a rogue, but I assure you that I will be a useful asset. Aaa! Please, help . I will tell you everything, every detail about when the attack is and what they are planning," Parker shouted, and I leaned on the pillar.
"You will tell us every single detail. Will that work for us? Do you think I am a fool to trust you? You will work for even after breaking free from here?" I asked.
Parker nodded his head, tears flowing down from his eyes as he clenched his fist to control and contain the pain he was feeling.
"But you said nothing can make you betray your boss," I said.
"I was overconfident earlier. Please, this is unbearable. I beg you," Parker said, and I humd.
Viking didn’t stop chewing his flesh, and Parker gasped for air.
"Yes. You can attach a microphone and a cara to my body if you are suspicious or send your n with . I won’t go and join their group for them to beco suspicious. I will call them to a hotel, and you can co to the hotel with ," Parker said.
I smirked at his words. Well, now we were talking.
I looked at Viking, who nodded and stepped back, wiping his blood-stained lips with his handkerchief.
