THIRD PERSON’S POV

Alia turned to look at Shadow as soon as he escorted her out.

"Are you not going to say anything?" She asked.

The Beta narrowed his brows at the woman, their childhood friend.

"Say what?" He asked.

Alia pressed her lips into a thin line.

"Say sothing about the alpha’s decision to choose that girl? That girl... I don’t know how to put things, but she is in trouble. I heard about everything that has been going on before I returned and even tonight— Didn’t you see those witches?" Alia asked.

Shadow didn’t say a word.

He just looked at her for a few seconds before turning around, ready to leave.

"Shadow, I am not saying all this just because I love Maverick and want to marry him. I am looking out for the pack. Can’t you guys see that this girl is not so simple? The witches who don’t talk to anyone co to et her," Alia said.

Shadow didn’t turn around. He looked at her from the corner of his eyes before sighing.

"Well, you can only see things like those witches arriving or the rogues who have been trying to plot against us since long before Miss Valencia showed up. What I can see is my alpha’s happiness," Shadow said before he looked at Alia straight into her eyes.

"What I can see is the light and hope in his eyes that was long gone, the softness of his heart that had turned a rock, and more than that, I have seen how much he loves her.

This reason alone is more than enough for to stand by his side and remove anyone from their way," Shadow made his point clear before leaving.

Alia stood by the staircase, tears brimming her eyes.

She couldn’t understand what was her fault. She never saw Maverick more than as a friend, but after the elders probed her and told her to be caring towards him, she started spending more ti with him, working for him, training, and becoming his best friend.

They were the ones who forced her to have such feelings. And even after that, she was ready to let go of this love and be happy for him, but was a girl like Valencia really good for him?

The won in the pack told her how Alpha Tyler and other alphas at the party were infatuated with Valencia, how the rogue attacks had increased, how they had started to find dead bodies out of the pack, and not only that, but they had realized that the rogue head followed the girl.

And if all that wasn’t enough, the witches arrived today. She has a weird affection towards that creepy bird who looks at her as if ready to burn her alive. Everything about Valencia scread danger.

How can she allow her alpha to be affectionate towards a girl like that? Alia took a deep breath before shaking her head.

She was about to return to her room to prepare for the report the alpha had asked before attending the party when she heard the voice of one person she least expected to hear.

"Even after all these years, you haven’t stopped sticking to him, have you?" The person said, and Alia froze in her place.

Her heartbeat quickened its pace as a shiver ran down her spine at the possibility.

She turned around to see if she wasn’t imagining things, and much to her displeasure, it was all true.

"What are you doing here?" Alia asked, her gaze turning hostile.

The person smirked at her.

"Aww, I didn’t know you missed that much. I know you don’t like that girl as the alpha’s choice, but don’t worry. Now that I am here, I will ensure he doesn’t get to choose her," The person said.

Alia clenched her fists. Even if she hated Valencia, that girl was far better than this...

"I have chosen Miss Valencia as my rightful Luna, and I hope the council can allow to comnce her Luna acceptance ceremony soon," Maverick’s announcent reached their ears, and the person grinned even more.

"Well, isn’t this amazing? It looks like I have chosen the right ti to intervene," the person said, walking toward the hall before pausing and looking at Alia.

"You know, if I were you, I would be on the side winning tonight. That ans I would be on my side," the person said before leaving Alia alone with her thoughts.

This wasn’t the first ti she had t this person. They had a long history with them, and she, out of all people, knew how cruel and cunning they could be. Her heart dreaded the outco of what was going to happen tonight.

With a sigh, even when the alpha asked Shadow to escort her out, Alia turned on her heels to go inside the hall shalessly to back her alpha against this one person who beca the biggest reason behind his hatred towards the rogue community.

anwhile, inside the hall, after the announcent, Maverick was about to descend the stage and walk to his woman to clarify things for her.

He wanted to tell her about why he was hiding things from her, how he found his brother, and how he had been in a peachy mood because of the rogue, but before he could take another step, he felt the presence of that one person, and their voice echoed over everyone’s chatter.

"Now, that won’t be a wise decision coming from the Alpha of the Dark Callisto pack, would it be? How can you have a chosen Luna when your mate is still here, well and alive?" The woman said, Maverick’s attention snapping to the woman at the entrance.

Everyone was shocked by the revelation and wild card entry. They were well aware of the beats of Alpha’s past and how his mate had betrayed him and left; thus, seeing her here was definitely shocking for them.

Maverick froze in his place. He was shocked to see her here. He was shocked because he never expected they would cross paths again as he had heard she died pitifully, but more than that, he was appalled because she dared to appear before him after everything she did.

As if the woman knew exactly what he was thinking, she turned to Valencia, who was busy eating and had barely stopped to look at her.

"So you have chosen her, Maverick? She is my replacent? This girl with no manners has to begin eating when the alphas and the royalty haven’t. Co on, you deserve better. I deserve better," The woman smirked.

Dylan looked at Valencia, who put her plate on the table and rely looked at the scene with a boring look. After knowing her for so long, he knew she was barely controlling her tongue from running because she was unsure what was going on.

The woman near the entrance looked around before sighing.

"Let formally introduce myself. I am Cordelia Maze, the fated mate of the Alpha of the Dark Callisto pack, Alpha Maverick Aurelius.

And before anyone interrupts and says we aren’t mates anymore and things like that, let make it clear: Alpha Maverick never accepted my rejection, and I am here to take that rejection back," Cordelia smiled.

At the sa ti, everyone looked at Valencia and Maverick, awaiting their response.
