VALENCIA’S POV

"Alpha? What do you an?" I looked at Henry carefully.

Henry nodded his head casually.

"Well, don’t you know about those alpha and Sigma males? Professor Maverick was definitely one of those kinds. The way he used to walk with such an aura was definitely sothing every boy in our classroom wanted," Henry said.

I realized he was talking about those fake ass words human beings have been using to define themselves.

A scoff left my mouth inwardly. They don’t even know what kind of man Maverick was. He was capable of killing this entire city alone if he went rampant.

I removed the hand from my pocket that held the dagger before looking around the city.

Once, Henry dropped at my apartnt’s building. I was about to enter the lift when the elevator door opened, and I ca face to face with none other than the man I was thinking about.

I kept standing there, hoping he would walk out since he was coming from upstairs, but when he didn’t, I quirked my brows.

"Aren’t you getting off?" I asked, and he humd.

"I am," he said.

He finally stepped out, not saying anything to .

I felt a little pang in my heart when the doors closed. Did he really not have anything to say to ?

He was too busy and wanted to save his ti here. I nodded at myself and pressed the floor button, but as soon as I did that, the elevator door opened again, and Maverick walked inside.

His actions confused .

"What are you doing?" I looked at him.

"? What am I doing?" He asked, standing beside .

’Did he forget sothing?’ Aurora said, and I humd in response. That might be the case.

"Alpha Maverick left to handle the business. It’s just Maverick here," Maverick said after a few seconds, and I looked at him.

"What do you -" I couldn’t even complete my sentence when he slamd back into the wall of the lift.

"What I an to say is that the busy alpha left earlier, and the person left was the lover of this girl over here," Maverick smiled, and I couldn’t help but blush at his way of making things look.

I don’t know how he does it, seeing how he has little to no experience with love. His way with words was indeed worth making your heartbeat.

He never ceases to make feel special. Even though we didn’t et for four days, I constantly received his reminders to eat food, sleep on ti, drink plenty of water, and take it easy, as well as how he missed .

It was almost like he was committed to one-sidedly.

"How was your exam?" he asked, and I shrugged.

’It was how it was supposed to be," I answered, making him chuckle at my choice of words.

I grinned at him.

We went to my apartnt, where Dylan and Carl were already discussing sothing.

"Did you forget sothing, Alpha Maverick?" they asked him together, and I looked at the man who didn’t say anything.

Not wanting them to think wrongly of him, I told them that I had invited him over for a cup of coffee since I was going to order food because I was hungry and wanted to celebrate the beginning of my vacation.

Dylan and Carl nodded.

They knew I was the kind of person who could do sothing like that.

"What were you guys discussing, though?" I asked them and sat on the couch, looking at the map of the forest around the Dark Callisto pack.

"You already know what we will be discussing. The Alphas et is only one week away, and we had called in for more backup. Dad asked us to tell him the exact number of people we would need so he could decide which troop and team to temporarily call back from their mission," Dylan explained, and I looked at them in understanding.

"So you guys decide how many mbers you place on a particular check post and how many check posts there will be, right?" I asked, and they nodded their heads.

I could feel Carl’s gaze on , and I turned to look at him.

Everything between us cleared long ago, and we were good friends.

"Do you want to give us so insight?" He asked. I shrugged before standing from my place.

"That doesn’t fall under my line of work. Don’t bring into this," I said, looking at the blind spots.

I was about to leave when I looked at Maverick, sitting on the couch, a little zoned out, probably talking to his people downstairs through a mind link.

Seeing the frown lines on his forehead, I felt a little bad for him. He was tired, but even after all that, he was here to give so ti.

With my lips pressed into thin lines, I sat back on the sofa and pulled the map before myself.

I grabbed Dylan’s marker and started circling all the paths they didn’t cover and how easy it was for the rogues to enter through those paths.

They were all hidden, and not many people knew about them.

I only knew about them because I was a rogue myself and have seen those rogues working.

Wasn’t that the pri reason why those rogues were behind in the first place?

"You guys probably don’t know, but just out of this forest line you have created, here is an underground basent where the rogues reside. You won’t be able to see anything from above the grounds. They are very sneaky. They took there when I was kidnapped -" I paused.

This was sothing I didn’t tell Dylan about.

As soon as the words left my mouth, I looked at Dylan, his expression telling I had so great explanation to do.

"Don’t worry about it. My team has covered the area," Maverick said, and I rembered he was the one who had found half of the way.

I didn’t know he would look into it, though.

"So, did you find anything?" I asked.

Maverick looked at Dylan before humming.

"I did. But it’s of no use. The place was left empty before we reached there," Maverick said, and I nodded in understanding.

"Let grab the outlet and order sothing," I said as I walked to the fridge to grab the paper. But before I could remove the magnet, my phone vibrated again, and I rembered I was about to check the ssage before I saw Maverick.

When I opened the ssages from the unknown number, I couldn’t help but freeze in place. This ti, I couldn’t resist.

What the hell was wrong with this person?

"I see you have chosen not to reply to . Well, have you forgotten that the alphas et in a week? Naturally, I will be there. Does the alpha of the pack you are staying near know you are a rogue? If you don’t want to create a ss in your life today itself, how about you start to reply to my ssages?"

The ssage said.

I looked at the Alpha sitting on the couch and discussing what I drew on the map.

My hand froze, unsure of what to do at the mont.

Should I reply to him? Tyler was right. If he as much as hinted at being the rogue, alpha Maverick won’t waste a second in getting to the root of it.

And all the happiness I was feeling these past days would be gone.

My heart ached at the thought of it.

’Aurora, what should I do?’ I couldn’t help but ask my wolf.

She didn’t say anything. I am sure she didn’t have an answer to it either.

The next ssage read, "So you have reread my ssages. You have one minute to reply to , or I will dial Alpha Maverick’s number."

My heart skipped a beat again as heat rushed to my head.

What should I do?

"Dylan," I called the only person who could suggest anything.

"Give five minutes, Cia," Dylan said, returning to his discussion.

I clenched my hand against the phone, feeling troubled.

My gaze averted to the man again, and as if he knew I was looking at him, he looked at .

I forced a smile on my face when I saw him frowning like this. No.

He needs help finding out about this. I wasn’t ready for it.

With a heavy heart and trembling fingers, I finally typed a ssage for Tyler because of my rising anxiousness.

"What do you want, Tyler? Why won’t you leave alone? You wanted out of your life, and I am not there. What else do you want now?" I quickly sent the hint button, tears brimming my eyes.

I did not want these people to win anything against , and the fact that he found sothing to have a little control over made feel so sour and vulnerable.

It was a feeling I hadn’t felt in a long ti and didn’t like.

I was about to stuff my phone in my pocket when I received another ssage, and I looked at it in horror.

"You. I want you, Valencia," The ssage said.

"Is everything okay?" Maverick’s sudden appearance near surprised , and the phone slipped out of my hands.

However, he held it in his hand with his quick reflexes, making gulp.

No. He can’t read it.
